  1. as far as axle retainer i was thinking welding on an oldsmobile end cap. i was told this works better???
  2. i was told you can cut and respline the ford axle???? this sounds like the cheapest route for now. 2000 for axles???? didnt think they were that expensive....im shooting for a mid nine second car. the only reason im going with the solid axle is for the rules. I want to be able to go take some money from the guys at the track ... anyways well see
  3. ahhh i c ok i definatly want a solid rear axle so i guess ill go with something like that....how easy would it be to convert a 5 lug pattern to 4 lug on the nine inch rearend out of say the van or truck???? would the z disc brake setup fit on it somehow or am i looking at a custom mod? cheaper to just get a set of 5 lugs draglites?
  4. this isnt a ford engine question but a nine inch rearend question.... Ive seen stangs with 4 lug patterns and ive been told that they are 4 x 4 1/2 lug pattern. my question is what type of rearend do these stangs come with Nine inch ????? brakes disc or drums???? im shopping for a rearend for my backhalf z project and would like to keep using my 4 4 1/2 10 inch wide watanabes ;> thanks for the info
  5. Yep seen them all ;> heres a question....I going to try and drill out spot welds on the seam right behind the divers seat or cut whichever is easier...my question is should i support the car in any specic ares? or will jackstands in the front and on the rockpanels fwd of where i cut the floor out? will it sag if i dont support the rear of the car? I was also thinking cutting enough floor out to install the subframe then after go back and remove the rest of it for the sheetmetal.
  6. No cage and your in the 9s???? what the body look like starting to resemble a pretzel yet? im running 11.1 s and cant run anymore til i get a cage the body is twistng and leaving wave and cracks in teh paint ;<
  7. Ok guys im getting stuff together to backhalf and cage my car. I found alot of good info here but need lots more... anyone know of any sites out there that have detailed start to finish teh backhalfing of unibody car? any books? any and all info will be much appreciated
  8. the amount of bars that go to the floor determines the count i believe. even if 2 bars weld into the same spot. correvt me if im wrong
  9. Super 280z are you thinking of a sequential turbo? lots of cars run them. stock. ive seen a couple guys in japan run a small superchager for bottem end them a turbo that blows thru the supercharger for topend... wasnt that fast though ;> Anyways if the turbo thing takes off like it did in japan anyone thinking about getting into a shop like that this would be the time ;> As i think in teh near future turbos will be the majority. Oh btw the 1000 hp car i was talking about was an rb26 2.6 L in line 6. If you double the CCs shouldnt you be able to double the horsepower;>
  10. they were starting to cure big turbo turbo lag in japan by going with very small exhaust housing and using really big wastegates. I personally watched a 1000hp gtr launch in a street race then took a look at the setup.... dont remember the compressor size but it was a twin and you could stick your first in the intake of each turbo. the exhaust housing could fit in the palm of your hand!!!! it also had twin wastegates with like 2 inch exhaust valves. The guy said full booste reached at 2500 rpm !!!! i was impressed. i was impressed
  11. i personnaly think its way too big for a Z. the new stuff just dosnt go with the z body. if you want a wing stick with the little wedges i think those look the best. i think a big wing like the yellow one has needs lots more fender flares to match the wing. I really like teh prostreet type wing that just come off the back of the hatch. remember this is just my opinion. any others?
  12. When a turbo oil seal goes bad it can be intermitent... if it sits for a while without running then smokes when you start it but then clears up once you get on it a couple of times... good indication its going bad.... could also be other things too. best way to tell is pull the turbo.. remove the exhaust housing and look around the turbine wheel if its a bad leak you will see lots of burnt crud. Also look for lots of side to side play in the turbo shaft. alittle movement is ok...but fwd to aft movement is a nono and means the turbo needs rebuilding/replaceing
  13. if you can get a rubber mallet on any part of the shaft in the direction it needs to go ... this will usually get it out. if your taking the diff out you may want to get the entire assembly out on the ground much easier to work on that way.
  14. Dan Lewis hey i need a copy of teh gtr manual I think you said 30 bucks where do i send it and do you still have the book ?
  15. Hey!!!! that other guy is me ;> 11.1 with lots of tire spin ;> if Sinisha has upgraded turbos he should be well into the 10s with a sticky set of meats ;> here is my goal ;> not so much fuel but same Hp range and performance http://www.autospeed.com/A_0505/page1.html [ September 06, 2001: Message edited by: stony ]
  16. OOOOHHHHHH!!!!!! lookie what i found !!!!! wish i didnt allready do the rb swap id love to try a 20b with a big turbo ;> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=594557763&r=0&t=0
  17. they say (holley web sight) that they are bosch style Injectors. does this mean they are bolt in replacements for bosch or denso injectors?
  18. im trying to find out if a set of 900cc+ Holley injectors are a bolt in replacement for nissan injectors? any other info i need to find out?
  19. Yep allready have that one bookmarked ;> "The final components include a heavily modified factory exhaust manifold and two extensively improved Garret T25 turbos." Those are still stock turbos!!!!!! and hes got around 600hp with that setup ;> kinda overkill on the fuel system but he is definetly ready for bigger turbo(S)
  20. they look alot like the fender mirrors i have on my car except with a different base
  21. if im not mistaken you need the axles from a 78 turbo zx and the mustache bar also and it bolts right in. you will also need the front diff mount i think . i used the front diff mount cause it was on the diff when i got it if you can get another at that price ill give you another 40 bucks for it ;>
  22. rotary's run very rich even stock. thats why you get flames out the exhaust. if you wanna here some coll sounds of rx-7s check out my sound page. got a 20bt on there too ;>
  23. Dan Hey also if you dont use the gtr brakes id be very interested in taking those off your hands ... did you also get the rears? let me know
  24. What allot of people in japan do is cut the diff portion off the gtr pan but that is for a car like the silvia where the sump will clear. the rb-20 oil pan requires alot of messaging and the oil pickup needs to be made. eventually im gonna mod the gtr aluminum pan to fit but thats not for a while. and too answer your question no i dont have an oil pan right now i can put it out that i need one and see if i can get one for ya. Since you have a rb-26 you could get an rb-25 block bore it up and do the neccessary mods and bolt all the 2.6 stuff to it and teh rb-20 oil pan will bolt right up. Being you are in the states i would say thats you easiest route. you could check with these motor importers for the rb-25. Im not exactly sure about what needs to be done to swap over to the 2.5 block but its not much. anyways that mod is alot more then id be willing to take on ;> i think the 2.6 with a backhalved car or even just a beefed up z rear end would be good for a 9 sec Z maybe better ;> l8rz stony
  25. yes that would be one way but again if i remember correctly the front wheel axles are inline with the front wheels and since the diff and axles are way back on the backside of the engine it would put the engine up into the core support
