  1. theres another point!!!! the gtr tranny has a transfer case to but its on the passenger side in japan which in the states is the drivers seat ;< im thinking that the amount of effort envolved in engineering an awd Z for traction is not worth it. IMHO A z with the rear suspension setup right can launch just as hard as an AWD z. and for alot less money ;>
  2. ok not exactly what i wanted but maybe someone can do it for me ;> the top bar and the middle X are your standard pillar mods. the bottem X dosnt tie into the pillar it will be welded to the portion of the rear frame rails that bend and go horizontal with the ground then come down just above the driveshaft tunnel and weld into the rear frame rail. the last 2 bars that kinda look like door bars will come down from the fwd part of the rear pillar and also weld into the rear frame rail. im thinking the 10 point cage with this added will be pretty stiff. any opinions?
  3. with the obvious framerail connectors allready mentioned anyone have any areas behind the seats strengthened with tie into a cage? example run a bar from top rt rear pillar to bottem left then top left to bottem right. i have seen this but does it stop twist? i was thinking of cutting out teh section that has the little doors behind the seats and doing some tubing in this area. im gonna try to post a pic if it dosnt work ill post it on my page. ill have to move teh battery but that was allready planned. Oh yea its not 3D but bear with me rollcage/twist fix? [ August 13, 2001: Message edited by: stony ]
  4. I think it was dan lewis a while back that was gonna try to install the AWD drivetrain from a gtr....????? I dug my GTR oil/front diff pan out and kind laid it under the car to see what it would take to get the stuff in... Well in short the way the diff sits under the engine the motor wouold have to be so far fwd that you would have to cut the rad core support!!!!! and on top of that the diff would sit right where the crossmember sits. As far as im concerned this is not a feasible swap. now for some of you engineers that nothing is impossible id still like to see one done. Its just with the stock oil pan i dont think it can be done. any opinions?? l8rz stony
  5. the color was requwsted to be stock mitsu gto red (r-38) but it didnt quite match up but i like it flares are fiberglass bought in japan The only mods i had to do to get the drivetrain in was make tranny mounts everything else bolted in the videos only plan for me correctly when i use netscape to download and play the vids thanks for all the compliments. if everything goes as planned the car will be in the mid 10s next summer
  6. that rb-30 mod was geting really popular in japan. good cc increase with out boring up ;>
  7. got them up i guess my ISP was having a bad night or something. actually the title of the avi was too big but it wasnt let me know that ;>
  8. Ok i finally got them to work on my page check them out ;> got some old rx-7 stuff up too now ;>
  9. those are the 432 motors DOHC they are big bucks in japan never seen one in the states. they also put them in the early box skylines (Hakosuka)
  10. now im feeling stupid cant get the files uplaoded to geocities
  11. BLKMGK It runs great way better then expected. had a best run of 11.138@120mph. sorry im kinda internet stupid tried to post an image from the page oh well ;< last time at the track i busted my diff mount and twisted the body a bit. i know this cause there is some cracks in the paint on the rt rear 1/4 window pillar. gonna get a cage in it before the next trip to the track ;>also upgrade injectors. that should get me solid into the 10s ;>
  12. ive got 2 vids now with sound up on the page if you guys wanna check them out
  13. AHHHHHH!!!! How do you weigh a Z???? i Have access to a set of scales at work that they weigh pallets with. Would i just drive the car up on it with the fronts take a weight then with the rear and take that weight. Then add up for total weight? Help me out here ;> thanks stony oh yea check this forum out http://www.automotiveforums.com

nevermind about the pricing... the lows are cheaper then the hi imp injectors ( big ones atleast ) still would like to know what the differences are between them are thanks stony

hey this is an old post but ill ask the question... what is the difference in preformance between hi and lo impedence injectors.... the rb-26 has low impedence injectors (Stock). i want to upgrade and hi imp inj look alot cheaper then the lo imp inj. any body have experience with this mod... going from low to hi imp injectors with SDS. do you just take out the resistor pack and reconect the wires? thanks stony
  17. rotary motors are ausome they are easy to rebuild and easy to port. ....intake and exhaust porting is the same as cam profiles in a piston motor so you have to know what your doing. you have to tune it right the first time especially high power motors and always run the best gas. If you knock a rotary its history. there are plenty of low 9 sec fc and fd 7s... im not sure on the weight but i think they are heavier then the Z. if you could swap an entire 7 drivetrain it would be a strong car for sure... my 7 in japan was in the 400 rwhp range and i never broke anything in the thing except the motor. I dont think (imho) its very streetable above 450-500HP. powerband is ausome...4000 nothing kinda wondering when its gonna kick then 4500 ,and its wildly spinning the wheels thru 9000rpm ;> and the sound with an open external wastegate is well put it this way i always wore earplugs when racing otherwise ears would ring for a week ;> You would have gobs of room in teh engine bay if you could picture a sr-20 in a 69 camaro it would be about the same;> and lots of room for big turbo ;> l8rz stony
  18. Jeronimo!!!! I need 4.11 or higher gears all i need is the ring and pinion. if you come across another open diff let me know. The open diff ring and pinion will bolt up to the LSD clutch assy. I was going to bring back an assortment when i left japan but ran out of time ;< thanks stony
  19. hey got it updated a little got the entire run including burnout to be under 5 meg ;> i went to install my rear control arms today and the pin (big one) that holds the arm to spindle was frozen big time... ended up cutting between the spindel and arm and dropping at a shop to get it removed. Also discoved diff mount broken in half ;<. anyone ever weld hese stock units up so they are a solid link? what im talking about is taking a piece of metal and welding it in where the rubber part is? I did it with my RX-7 a while back and shouldnt be too hard on the Z. l8rz clint
  20. if you have someone in cali that can hook you up you should be in there but prabably gonna be expensive. I would reserch teh rb.26 the intake manifold sits really high nad might not clear the hood. should be too hard to fab one though. and if you have the r-33 5 speed and front half of the driveshaft only thing youll need to do is fab tranny mounts. everything else is bolt in.

    wastgates

Go with the biggest external wastegate you can fit that way any future mods to engine or turbo you be set... oh yea make the wastegate pipe come out right behind the front wheel this way when somebody pisses you off ... well need i go any further ;>
  22. In my opinion. unless your gonna be doing some serious road racing camber plates and control arms that eliminate the t/c bushing are not for daily driver use way to much noise. im currently converting my front suspension back to stock arms and urathan bushing. the camber plates are done and cant be reversed otherwise id change those back. for the rear... im a drag racer and haveing alot of adjustment on the back cant hurt. but still have to way the noise level. i used AZC camber plates and now the strut covers dont fit so that = more noise and mayber even fumes ;< i could have used the money on some other go fast stuff and just installed all urathan bushings in the suspension and been happy l8rz stony
  23. shoot i didnt even record with a sound hookup looks like mike mic was inputting sound to the recording. the vids never were supposed to have sound not yet atleast so turn down the volume. that sound is very annoying. ;>
  24. sorry no sound ;< not for a while at least
