  1. I was serious when I said all your questions can be answered in that thread....

Cost effective... hum... you're looking at $500-$700 minimum unless you magically find a Z31T LSD in the junk yard (not gunna happen).

The 87-89 Z31T R200 clutch LSD is the easiest swap...

  2. #1: The L28ET uses an AFM not MAF.

#2: You can convert to a MAF if you do a Z31T ecu upgrade.

#3: You can install a Vein Pressure Converter to delete the MAF.

Is all that worth it? Not really.... tho the Z31T ecu upgrade itself is.

  3. Any maintenance nightmares with the 318? That California ragtop is pretty rare isn't it?

Only changing the oil filter (which is located on the top front of BMW motors). The 325i M50 motor has an enclosed aluminum unit for the oil filter. For some reason BMW used a plastic cap for the 318 M44 motor which allows oil to run down the block upon removal. That was my only complaint w/ the car. And the ragtop w/ the ///M package was pretty rare. I think only 1500 were made.

  4. Welcome to the forum! :D

An L28ET swap would be the most cost effective way to get "more power", though it may or may not be something you want to get yourself into (depends on your mechanical / electrical level).

Second up would be a basic upgrade: Exhaust header, cam, ignition, MegaSquirt (a lil bit more advanced), maybe some intake work, head work (decking, valves, etc).

More advanced would be a complete tear down of the motor, bore it (stroking would be more extreme), do some heavy head work, etc.

It's really all up to you...

  5. it's hard to believe that new hydraulic lifters can't be found?

If you don't believe what the forum members say... I doubt much else can be said to help you. :D

SEARCH. There's at least a dozen threads here talking about hydraulic lifters. They are near impossible to find new, and indeed they are not made anymore. How could that be possible?! Easy... Nissan stopped producing them, just like a lot of car makers stop producing certain parts sometimes.
