  1. I did a little weight test of some parts and here are some of the results. Bear in mind that my scale is not to the ntthhh degree accurate.

My stock '73 dash gutted, meaning without any gauges, wires, vents was roughly = 20.5 lbs

My '90 240sx dash With vents, but (Without gauges, wires) = 12 lbs

    Aftermarket:

Reaction Research "Subtle z" rear quarter panels (which bond over the cut, stock metal panels) weigh in at roughly 5 lbs.

Hybridz vendor (Rayven14) fiberglass interior door panels (With my added tweeter hole and built up material) = 2.5 lbs

I'm sure there is some fluctuation to my scale but this is what I came up with, and hope it helps some.

  2. It's good to see you sourced a pair of buckles that work for you. After you first introduced this option to us here, I went and found a nice black set. Unfortunately the mounting spool that resides above and behind you did not fit with my rollbar setup. I will end up putting these up for sale and just use my retro belts, hopefully with a little hybridization of it's own. This has been nice and informative though.

  3. "John’s quality is very good and he is a professional when it comes to customer service."

I second this statement, as John more than went out of his way to help me with some extra attention that I wanted to give to my front fenders. He was in town on two different occasions, picked up, performed the work and later delivered these back to me. He has great products and even better customer service, great guy.

I had him blend the headlight buckets and create a backing, or pocket for some bmw turn signals, so they don't just look like they are plopped on there. Wanted it to look as if it came from the factory that way.

  4. Looks like from the provided pics, you would be in for a lot of rust repair. Alot of time and energy/work if you can do the work yourself, even more $ spent if not, which I'm only stating the obvious. I must imagine that the bushings, hoses, etc, are in need of replacing as well being an original car. There are still plenty of other good candidates all over California, that I personally would pass on that one.

  5. Since you are asking for opinions, I will pitch in mine. If I was at your stage and ready to paint, I would choose one of the blue's as you mentioned over red and keep it all one solid color. I'm not hating on the stripe or red color options as I like them as well, only as previously memtioned stripes need to be done right to pull it off. If you are thinking more along the red camp, the new cadillac cts offers a nice red color in their pallet. It's strange how hard it can become to decide on colors when it comes time for paint.

  6. lumberjackj,

You certainly have my attention here, as I have the Retro USA kit from MSA, but have yet to install or use. Would you elaborate on your experiences with the retro belt kit. I am only 5'8" and weigh a buck fifty so if I was to try your custom set up approach, I suppose there would be no issues for me, especially as I will be using a spal electric window kit. I'm liking this setup you have come up with.
