  1. Well we were extremely happy with the way our 240z handled and reacted to the power when we put the engine behind the front crossmember so that is why we decided to go ahead and throw the motor into this build. Update coming in a little bit, we finished the center dash panel with carbon
  2. our SR makes just under 400 ft. lbs of torque and 500whp. The VQ is heavier and would have cost us more to build, not to mention the lack of room to work around the engine and doing routine maintenance between events. It feels like the project is getting closer and closer but there is still so much to be done!
  3. A few updates over these past few days. The motor pulled from the 240z was dropped into the 350z Fits very nicely and just need to modify the top-mount manifold so that the turbo clears the strut tower and is closer to the motor and further away from the brake parts. I went ahead and pulled the brake pedal (was automatic before) to cut it down to size and also install the clutch pedal and master cylinder at the same time. Brake booster and master were also set in place and re-installed We also got started on the re-wiring of the standalone and complete car. The factory wiring harnesses for the car weigh so much its ridiculous. This new EZ-Wire setup definitely comes in handy but is very time consuming. http://www.AlexVillabrille.com
  4. Well this would have been a productive weekend usually, if we had actually liked the final turnout of the interior paint. We spent the entire day on Saturday prepping the car to be ready to paint and we got to the interior on Sunday morning and were going to start painting the exterior of the car but it was drizzling and not a good day to continue. The end result of the interior we didn’t like so much, but you guys be the judge. Going to re-paint it this weekend hopefully. TODAY: We brought the infamous SR20 powered 240Z to rip its heart out! It was sad to take the car back home on a trailer but it had to be done at some point. In the future the 240Z is likely to get a 2JZ for some street fun. (Don’t mind the tow straps as were pulling the engine, its super light and didn’t have the transmission attached to it anymore) Be sure to keep up on http://www.AlexVillabrille.com
  5. Looks like we've got something in common Pete:
  6. It was done by Chris Forsberg when he was sponsored by Motorex followed by being done by Signal Auto. Other than that i have not seen any other 350z documented with this swap.
  7. Been trying to clean up the rest of the interior so we can prep it for paint and begin to move onto the rest of the good stuff!!! The rubber seem sealer is a pain in the ass to wire wheel all off, but it is finally done! Oh and I used dry ice of course to remove all the tar. http://www.alexvillabrille.com
  8. Well I went to Pro-Motion Distrbuting on Friday and picked up their final stock of the Sparco Pro2000 Seats as well as some aluminum side mounts. I also got my Momo steering wheel hub but still trying to decide on which steering wheel to do with... Keep your eye out for the ETB Instruments DigiDash coming soon Check the seats out:
  9. In the beginning I didnt mention that this project is all happening thanks to Daryl Alison from JustDriven.com Roll cage is done!!! Gussets galore up in this *****. Oh and now the doors are completely gutted and cut out Here are the pics:

    Dyno Video!

I think this is an awesome swap, have you gotten the car on the scales yet to see what it weighs in at?
  11. The only times we really used the S30 were for autox days and the car would powerslide no problem. At that time i wasnt trying to drift the car but trying to get the fastest time possible with minimal traction since the tires were too small for 500+hp. More updates coming tomorrow!!
  12. Cage is almost completely finished... The front gussets were done, entire cage is completely welded and ready to rock except for the door bars. Doors bars are already made and ready to be tacked on and welded but we ran out of gas today Here is today's updates:
  13. Grim: Well the VQ is just sitting in the corner of the shop (Complete engine with all accessories, complete harness, ignition and ECU... No trans) I want to sell it but prices for VQs have gone way down and its not even worth it really. It only has 16,700 miles. Most of the cage is all tacked in... tomorrow just need to do the door bars and finish all the final welding. Here is the progress from today attached:
  14. Austin: Right now I've been practicing in a Nismo R-tune 350z until i can get my car ready for some test and tune runs Young Z: Been drifting for just a few months now.... I just hope i can live up to the people's expectations that are backing me. Dave: Its not perfectly good when it comes automatic!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next time we go to the track you have to come out!
  15. Thanks for the compliments guys. I don't have my license yet but from a few practice events I've gotten really good feedback from fellow drivers to go out and get my license. As of right now the cage is all tacked in... our roll cage guy just has to make the door bars and then do all the final welding.
  16. Chris Forsberg got his SR20 demo 350z down to 2380lbs and his VK56 car is in the sub 2500lb region. Dynamic Autosports/Hankook 350z with a single turbo VQ is weighing in at about 2600lbs.
  17. Were doing the sr20det because we already have a completely built and proven drivetrain from our 240z. The setup has never ceased to amaze us and will make the engine bay relatively easy to work on in between events and maintenance. Austin: Im not sure on the weight differences since we dont have an engine hoist scale but the VQ is a very stout motor.
  18. Yes this is for real! We are in the midst of building the roll cage for our 350z to Formula D rule standards. The car is going to primarily be a competition drift car which I (Alex) will be driving. I will be documenting progress on http://www.AlexVillabrille.com as well as through this thread. I was able to get some semi-sponsorships to help with the build from JustDriven.com, M1 Autosports, and Dynamic Autosports. Attached are some teaser shots for your viewing pleasure:
  19. Not a problem at all guys... glad i could be of assistance.
  20. Its just going to sit for a while like it has been for the past 6-7 months.... might as well make use of some of the stuff on the car for another project and then get back to the Z when more time and money permits... The 350z is getting its cage built this week and i will be posting progress pics definitely!!
  21. 5psi pump will pull fuel from the stock tank into the surge tank. The walbro will pull from the surge tank (which should be constantly full) to the fuel rail.
  22. Well the feed line from the tank will go into about a 5psi electric pump that feeds into that surge tank, that tank has that line going in, one going to the walbro and also a return coming from the fuel rail and then the return to the tank as well. Seems confusing but its relatively easy to figure out. They also sell aluminum surge tanks on eBay i believe that are really nice quality. Double check them for leaks before using them though.
  23. Thanks guys for all the comments and for also bringing this thread back up!! We used Honda S2000 Silverstone Metallic for the body and then the satin black is urethane paint that we bought from our local paint store. I can't remember what brand it was though sorry Ken. The car will be having its powertrain removed to be transplanted into our project 350z... the build progress of that car is at http://www.AlexVillabrille.com Progress will be moving along after this week when the roll cage is finished!!
  24. You can run 5/16" line for feed and return. If you are going to run the stock tank i would definitely suggest on running a secondary fuel pump with a surge tank to keep the engine from ever starving from fuel.
