  1. Dave, Sent you a PM to get a place in line for the spindle puller. Thanks! Jay
  2. It's a bit of a hike... but I'm going to these guys in Georgetown Kentucky. http://www.blaststrip.com Jay
  3. EvilC, For what it is worth... I considered Med School, an MBA, and a grad engineering degree after my undergrad mech eng degree. I decided on the Master's in mech eng and it was worth a solid $10K bump in the payscale for my first job compared against other "new hires" at GE Airfcraft Engines in 1998. My advice is do get it while you are young and single. Most of the time you can get it in 18-24 months easily. Jay
  4. Google is your friend... http://airandsound.safeshopper.com/5/31.htm?79
  5. Sorry if this is a threadjack... but... I'm curious, J. Soileau from your photos above it looks like you rebuilt your ZXT CV halfshafts yourself. I tried to contact raxles (pete paraska recommeded vendor) and they informed me that there are no cores or new parts available. I'm looking to take mine apart, clean them up, new boots, clamps and grease. Hopefully I will not need any hard parts. Do you have any lessons learned or gotchas? Also do you have a source for your parts that you used? A search didn't really cover this in any detail... Thanks in advance! Jay
  6. I know this not the same situation but, I immeadiately thought of Preston Tucker. grabbed from a Google search "...Tucker had promised 150 hp (112 kW), and his innovative 589 was not working out, so another engine was sourced. The company first tried the Lycoming aircraft engine but it would not fit in the car's rear engine compartment. The Franklin air-cooled helicopter flat-6 did fit, however, so Tucker purchased four samples for $5,000 each. The company's engineers converted it to a water-cooled design, and its 166 hp (124 kW) pleased Tucker. He quickly bought the Franklin company to secure the engine source..." The safety factor here is that the Tucker was rear engine... Just my $0.02 Jay
  7. All right guys, Alex Avery from zcar.com has posted the following info on his research for converting the hydraulic lifters on a P90a to solid: Alex says... Just wanted to report the result of my efforts to find a cheap alternative to convert P90A hydraulic lifter head to solid lifters. It can be easily accomplished for about $35 bucks. Because the hydraulic lifter bosses are already WAY countersunk, you only need to buy 12 20mm Timesert thread inserts for $2.71 each (+shipping) rather than the expensive tool kit (which includes a thread tap, insert countersink tool, and thread locking tool you won't use). When you get the threaded inserts from Timesert: 1. Remove the hydraulic lifters 2. Thread the Timesert inserts into the lifter bosses until they bottom out 3. Install solid lifters. The solid lifters are a LOT shorter than the hydraulic lifters. The hydraulic lifter bosses are pre-countersunk in a way, as the threads are only at the bottom of the lifter boss. So the threaded insert when installed is below the top-deck of the head. The solid lifters aren't as long as the hydraulic lifters, so they only engage the thread inserts in the first 5-6 threads. But seeing as the lifters see only compression forces, not tension forces, 5-6 threads are plenty to hold the lifters into the head. I took lots of pics and will post a short, well illustrated "how-to" article on the net when I find the time. So all those P90A heads out there should now be considered viable and cost-effective alternatives to P79s. Details: http://www.timesert.com The Timesert item number is 18153 (M18x1.5x18.3 INSERT) Time Fastener Co 5301 Longley Lane Reno, NV 89511 (775) 829-1026 I have these and used the solid lifters from a P79... works like a charm! Be sure to drop by zcar.com and thank Alex! Jay
  8. I'm on travel this week for work. I will track a part number down for you guys when I get back early next week. Zsaint... I'm not sure if the info that you got... I have received and installed these parts and I can assure you that they fit fine... Let me check on a part number. Thanks, Jay
  9. Howdy, Me and another member from zcar.com bought Timesert adapters to convert our P90a heads over to solid lifter. It's basically a "heli-coil" that has an external thread that matches the P90a bosses and an internal thread that matches the solid lifter thread. They are rather cheap (~$3 a pop). Check it out... http://www.timesert.com Good luck, Jay
  10. Whew.. Glad to hear that! Thanks guys! Jay
  11. I recently purchased an 83 ZXT basket case for the drivetrain for my 71 240z. When I pulled the transmission drain plug to drain the ATF I instead got heavyweight gear oil out. I've read the Haynes and BW manuals and they are very specific about NOT using gear oil. So... much question now is what is the best way to get all of the gear oil out of all of the passages in the T5? Am I looking at a complete rebuild here? Thanks in advance. Jay
  12. Hello, I just bought an '83 ZXT parts car. I have pulled the harness and I have found a few differences between the guide and what I have. I'm willing to take pictures and help update the guide. I'm going to go through the guide this weekend with the harness in front of me. I'll document any differences and report back. Thanks for the headstart! Jay
  13. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-161601 Doesn't sound like the vendor who owns the link posted in the parent is trust worthy... If you look at how many people are claiming to have been scammed, makes you wonder if the dyno pulls are legit. Jay
