  1. would anyone happen to know what size nuts are needed to thread onto the bolts of a mikuni 40mm phh carb? there are a total of 12 that secure the air cleaner/horn on. i also need the right thread bolt that threads into the K&N air cleaner assembly (there are 3 of these)... i misplaced them somehow. thanks in advance!
  2. they are custom.. yep, the fender is off so i'll be mounting them in a week or 2
  3. yep, the covers are on =) and surprisingly, they were glass. head studs come in on Thurs (27th) should i call you then? i cleaned up my pistons and i can install the rings later tonight.
  4. mike, excellent choice on the car i see you got the S54 motor... yummy. my best friend has your car in silver. people scratch their heads in wonder after getting burned by a "chic car". the M aint no chic car!!! lol
  5. i'm not sure if custom was the only option, but since rockauto was out of stock (discontinued) and autozone didn't specify the widths of theirs, i just went this route. however, cast iron won't last as long as the chromoly from what i understand. am i correct on this?
  6. for anyone interested in buying new piston rings, i just bought mine from Deves and it seems to be a high quality product. they are cast iron and the lady on the phone said they normally don't stock product, they just build it to order. my particular set here is a std size ring set for ZX flat tops (no valve relief) with the compression rings being 1.5mm and 2mm. the oil rings are 4mm. the part # is 2147 (shown in first pic) and the cost was $100 even, shipped to my door. box with part # manufacture date (7/19/06) individually wrapped oil rings compression rings i'll post installation photos and comments on fit later...
  7. when you compare the quarter windows with the metal surround/weatherstrip, its pretty heavy in comparison to just the lexan. the same goes for the rear hatch glass. honestly, i wouldn't say the weight savings is HUGE but every ounce helps if you add it all up. for the ease and price of it... you might as well right? then again, i'm building a purpose built track day car, not a street car. my car will avoid rain and prolonged sun exposure if at all possible. Jon, your friend's 510 is pretty frickin sweet. would you say it might help to cut relief holes in the hatch. what i'm thinking is similar to vented lenses for Oakley M frame sunglasses: i think this would relieve some of the pressure (but would it add drag?) and prevent a blowout.
  8. Jon, would you happen to have any pictures of any strap setups? the actual sheet is countersunk since i'm not using weatherstripping so i'd like to see how others have done it. i may just make a frame that holds it in with a pair of thin straps to hold the center in.
  9. the whole 48" x 48" sheet of 1/8" thick polycarb lexan cost me a whopping $54 at the local plastics shop!
  10. the straps i'm unsure of... i was hoping to just pop rivet them in for now. its not ready for the track until i get my suspension/brakes done
  11. drawing the template from a cardboard piece. using my rudimentary tools test fit. rear hatch. they need to be pop riveted in, but they are pretty much done.
  12. the plastic ones i have are still in good condition, but like Mario said, the metal ones offer a tighter fit and... its metal $2.99 at Autozone the outside diameter is just a tad too big but the inside diameter seems to be spot on. the part # i'm using is # 38377 which is the proper one according to the tutorial i printed. i may end up just sanding out the outside ring a bit and work it in there. i'll need to order more, the last one i tried to bang in is a little warped now lol
  13. i tried to push these in and the brass bushings ended up getting bent out of shape... i believe I have a stick from a '77. any ideas? should i try to do the freeze + heat method?
  14. thanks again for the tip, i'll be posting pics of the install later!
  15. i ran the piston ring source and i got 4 hits. oh well. anyway, i did get the Deves ring set, thanks for the heads up. it is part # 2147 for the 1.5mm, 2mm, 4mm set. $92 + 8 s/h.
  16. hi, on my F54 block i had some flat top pistons with 3 different groove heights. 1.6mm, 2mm, and 4mm. I mistakenly ordered the 2mm, 2mm and 4mm kit so now I need a new kit. RockAuto doesn't have the 1.6mm kit anymore. Anyone know where I can get these? I'm moving in a few weeks and this has to be done ASAP! Thanks!

i thought i heard the handing over of title was actually just for show, the respective owners still got to keep their car in reality even if they lost... true or no?

  19. olderthanme, where are you located? i have a shortblock available. depending on where you are or how much you are willing to spend on shipping/crating... i could sell you mine. 260 block, E88 head. runs very strong.
  20. that ATI unit looks pretty effing sweet but wow... thats almost worth more than my engine alone haha. paint it is!
