  1. Good point, so I should at least run closed loop with an O2 sensor? Last thing I need under my car is a fire! Owen
  2. Are you sure the slave is attached to the release collar on the clutch properly? That's all I can think of... Owen
  3. Apply to a CART car! That thing is sweet! Like those exhaust manifolds? Owen
  4. A word on the Haltech, full semi-sequential fuel injection is not possible. Don't know why, that's what the manual says. Distributor-less is possible, but I don't remember if fully or not. For semi-sequential you'll need 2 inputs, home and trigger. A good MSD dizzy has both of these, but the dang thing was too tall! The other option would be crank disk sensor + dizzy sensor. I may do this later if I ever get my car started. If anyone wants to check out my manual, I can fax somepages. Owen
  5. Your manifold design will play a big part in performance, etc. I went with the Haltech E6K coupled to a TPIS MiniRam 2 with RC Engineering injectors, the new TEC-II wasn't close to being on the market yet. Tuner-shop friends say Accel's DFI is also a good choice. Owen
  6. Yeah! Read more carefully! Just kidding. The older cars are only subject to the roadside stops, not the mandatory bi-yearly inspections. I think the $6000 inlcuded the fines, towing, and impounding. Story is, they brought a mobile sniffer/dyno and tested it on the spot! Seems the police aren't as stupid as they seem to be, my auto tech. teacher told me they are being trained even more, even on cracking down on smog stations that give out illegal certificates. I'm not worried about smog, I'm worried about my block being earlier than the car, which is a no-no. So I figure if I get a catalytic converter, I can at least hope to slide by the more educated members of the law. So where can I get a Random Tech cat for cheap? Owen
  7. It's the injectors! (I'm still at work tho... ). It just occured to me that when I changed from advance setting to basic setting, one of the wires I did not change. Also I did some calling outside on my cell phone and confirmed that it is better to have the injectors wired with the correct polarity. For example, continuous 12V would be on the left and the signal wire on the right. AHHHHHH! I need to get home! Thanks for all the help guys (this better be the solution), I do have spark and power to the pump. Checked both visually/audibly/and electrically. One thing that was kind of cool was disconnecting the high voltage wire to the distributor, turning the ignition on, and spinning the dizzy shaft. Sparks and more sparks! Don't do this with the high voltage wire connected to the dizzy, it'll give you a major shock. 1 hour and 14 minutes and counting.... Owen
  8. The smog Nazis are getting stronger around here. Met a guy the other day who got popped driving past one of those mobile exhaust gas sensors complete with CHP and everything. He got pulled over, they jacked up his car, then impounded it with a fine of $6,000! Not sure how old this car was but still...and 73 and older cars are expempt from smog checks, but not the mobile sniffers....great... So does anyone run a catalytic converter? I was thinking of getting one just for insurance. Beats getting pulled over at every block. How is the Random Technology Super High Flow cat? TPIS sells them for $200 I think. Owen
  9. Damn, both those stories are scary. I came close to that this weekend as I discovered the rail that joins my two fuel rails was leaking...tightened that sucker up in a hurry! "if that was the carb on fire, can i just buy a FI and put it on and go along my merry way?" You'd need an EFI fuel pump and filter at least, then the fuel lines and fittings too. Plus a regulator and a return line. Owen
  10. Ok, I'll try less than 20BTDC. ECU/Injector spec...off the top of my head, Haltech E6K, RC Engineering injectors low impedance at 35lbs/hr I think. Systems is in basic mode setup for multipoint injection. The pump does prime when I turn the key on, and it should be pumping when I crank the engine. Anyone have an MSD distributor? I have the rotor pointing to my No. 1. plug tower but still no juice. Owen
  11. Funny thing, the latest issue of Autoworks (Japanese car mag) has a LHD 240Z dropping in the Q45 engine! Plus they're adding a single turbo, T78 hybrid I think...I may have time to scan the pictures if you can't get a hold of the mag, email me. Owen
  12. Don't know if this belongs in this forum or not, but I'm pulling my hair out trying to solve this apparently simple problem! I'm ready to start the engine. Got fuel, oil and water all in. Crankshaft is turned to 20deg BTDC on the compression stroke. Distributor is dropped in with the rotor turned to the number 1 firing post. I crank it up, engine spins, got spark, but that's it! What am I doing wrong??? I've got this gut feeling that the distributor is not being installed right, but every thing I've read is basically the same as everything I've tried. My second gut feeling is that the injectors are not firing. I have them enabled in the Haltech and all, is there a way to test them? Should I pull one out and crank the engine to see if it sprays? Thanks in advance. Yours truly, Dead Battery, Rusted Engine
  13. For my T56 I hammered the tunnel and didn't use the crossmember spacers. The only fins that are in the way are the ones by the reverse sensor, which I won't grind off until I have to pull my engine again. Owen
  14. Back to the injectors issue, this site has some pretty good reading dealing with injector sizes, fuel pressure, etc. http://www.grapeaperacing.com/GrapeApeRacing/tech/fuelinjectors.htm I assume the SDS uses low-impedance injectors? Owen
  15. For ground clearance I'm more interested in the oval tubing...does anyone know what size oval tubing equates to a 3" round tube? I'm too tired to think right now Owen
  16. I agree with Stony, I have the Japanese fender mirrors too and the body looks pretty much the same. I've seen them (in the pic) on a Wangan Midnite Z replica in Japan as well. Owen
  17. Recognized that name right away, apparently they make the sender for my Intellitronix electric fuel pressure gauge, 0-100psi. The sender installs in-line with the fuel line and then its just one wire to the gauge (other 2 gauge wires are gnd and lighting). I have some really bad pictures on my website. I need to get a better digicam...but the NiteShot works pretty good http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/gauges.htm Owen
  18. In reading other threads, I've learned that straight water is the best for the first time engine start up. But how long (days?) should the water be left in before replaced with the coolant/water mix? Thanks, Owen
  19. That's the one that's a straight cylinder shaped muffler right? That was my other choice. How much of a difference with the silencer? Can it be removed and installed easily? I wonder if that fits on the Dunk muffler. Owen
  20. Helped greatly! I gotta check out that water wetter on the net too. Thanks! Owen
  21. Thanks for the replies! So this a same day thing? If it's real hot I assume having only water will promote overheating. Owen

    sound deadner

I didn't follow the link but I assume its about the Dynamat? I did that and went even further by coating the whole inside of the car with truck bed liner (Dupont) bought at a local auto store. Took two cans to do the inside and underside + inner fenders. Don't buy the installation kit they sell, it's cheaper to go to HomeDepot and get some paint rollers and pans. Owen

    Broke my R200

Mark's already provided the info for the R230 swap...I just followed what he did and mine is in now. Car is still not running though. I do have documentation and pictures, just haven't uploaded them yet. The only custom things are the shafts, adapters, and diff mount. The diff mount is the only thing I was able to do myself. Oh, driveshaft is custom too. I'm suck at welding and I'm not an engineer, so anyone can do this Owen

    Broke my R200

Yup, pretty much custom everything, don't forget the rear brace and the redrilling of the mustache bars too! The reason I went with the R230 is that I couldn't find an R200 LSD anywhere for under $400. My R230 was $275 + 4 shafts. If someone wants to build a kit I and maybe Mark can provide info, someone else here was doing this too...??? I don't have access to machines or lathes or anything, just my welder, grinder, sawzall, and some titanium drill bits :-)I guess that's why it took me so long to do this. Owen
  25. Going on almost 2 years for me, about the same time I started the v8z swappers forum. An it's totally snowballing but I'm trying to steer clear of Pete's path that thing is a restoration street rod classic! Hope to be done in a month? Yeah, right... Not GOING, and not SHOWING. Money doesn't matter any more Owen
