  1. Hey, you wanna paint mine too? I'm almost ready and am seriously considering Maaco or Scheib or something. It's not a show car, it's a commuter! So I'm going the cheapy route. One day I'll take a class and learn to do it all myself. Owen
  2. Is this a brandname thing? I got mine from JC Whitney and installed it but havent tested it out yet... Owen
  3. What's the resolution, frame rate, CODEC, etc? AVI is inherently big...I would take a look at it for you but there's no way I'm gonna let you email me that! If you haven't already, try to decrease all of the above and use the Divx codec, should help a little. I would try to convert to MPEG1 or MPEG2 though. Owen
  4. "About swapping to a lower pumpkin gear ratio, what exactly do I need? The ring gear and the pinion? " Stuff I've seen on the internet, people have just been swapping the entire assembly out, carrier and all. I'm not technical enough to do the swap of the internals. Owen
  5. Couldn't see the picture...anyways, welcome! I agree that car would be great. Check my links on my page for some LS1/LT1 dealers. http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/otherv8z.htm If they can fit V8s into FCs and FDs, it should be possible for yours as well. And the 3.54 gear, try the Q45 diff (do a search here) shouldn't be too hard because its the same as the Z32 diff which gets swapped into 240SXs a lot right? Good luck! Owen
  6. I found this site by accident and it was some pretty good reading http://www.radartest.com Owen
  7. Don't feel bad...I think I ended up doing ISO flares on the tubing with double flares in the brake line adapters (brass fittings)! Owen
  8. 3.7 would be the 300ZX turbo '87-'89 was it? The '88 all white SE model is a viscous which is different but still usable with some effort. Do a search in the archives. Owen
  9. Oh...I guess I did. So maybe I should replace the drip rails with neon tubing? How about a glowing ring around the muffler tip?? Yeah! Ever see "Automan"? Pretty corny TV show but all the distinct lines of the car were like neon or something. Owen
  10. So that's what that flapping sound is when I drive on the freeway... Owen
  11. Whaddya mean, you don't like that picture of my car?! J/K Owen

I did this with the grill too with metal bought at Home Depot. The grill stuff is like for doors, barbeques, whatever. Mine has the diamond pattern with a hole a little bigger than my finger. I like the flat look of the grill so I chose not to put the bend in mine. I have one picture at http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/quo.htm look for the link to the grill. Owen

Nismo sells one too, for like $300 bucks or something? I was at Motorsport last month and they have one they are starting to sell for $150...I asked to see it, "measured" the grill holes with my finger and went straight to HomeDepot. I will try to put mine on but the hood is off too, so after I do that. Mine bolts to where the stock one did, except for the center bolt. Owen
  14. Someone I talked to on ZCAR has done this awhile ago. It seems like its just a matter of mounting them. I know, those calipers are so light! I had one in my hand walking around in a junkyard looking for an older Z but couldnt find one so I didnt buy the calipers. Owen
  15. HAHA! Did that with my fuel line! I was like, hey, what's this fitting doing sitting here on the fender??? Owen

    CV shaft length

Hmmmm. Too late! Everything is in pieces! But I think I can come up with some measurements. Thanks. Owen
  17. It's here. Really simple. http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/turnsigassy.htm Owen
  18. OK, got the dang things disassembled with brute force. Now...I know the distance from the diff to the comp flange, but should the shaft be a little shorter to give it some play? Owen
  19. Damn! You did this yourself you say? How much to do mine? Owen
  20. Dude! Now THAT'S an anwser! Never looked at the nozzle before, maybe should since who knows what kinda crap may be on there... So the air travels out while the gas travels in, like the fuel hoses they use in racing pit stops. Ingenious. Owen
  21. I finally whacked them off with a big hammer, I don't need the outers but I would have rather taken them off instead of half destroying them. Thanks though! Owen
  22. How does the gas filler nozzle know when to stop? On my CRX which has all the stock tubing and vent tubes and whatever, it just stops when it's full. But my Z is just a straight tube to the tank with no flap valve (kinda like those old toilets that were just a hole in the ground). For people with tanks like this or with fuel cells, does the nozzle stop automatically? Or do you have to guess how much is in the tank and then stop filling yourself? I don't wanna be standing there and suddenly see gas overflowing all over the side of my car! Does the 280Z tank have any vent tubes, etc? I don't remember seeing any on mine... Owen
  23. I can disassemble the inner side of the CV joint but I cannot remove the outer portion which has the stub axle attached to it (for Q45). All snap rings were removed but no matter how hard I pound it, I can't get it off. And I'm afraid of damaging the race as well. Anyway to do this without special tools? I already have a slide hammer, hydro press, and a bearing splitter and still couldn't get it off. If the diff was solidly mounted, I could attach the inner flange to it and use the slide hammer on the other end...but the diff isn't mounted and I already removed all the inner CV parts. Owen
  24. This adapter is to get the fluid into the caliper right? I just bought brass fittings with inverted flares. Apparently there are IOS and double-flare types, and after finding out about them, I reliazed what I had done. My guess is that you just screwed the hard line into the caliper. Just doing that doesnt provide a seat for the brake tube. Mine leaked right away at first when I did this and I went to the brass fittings. That tapered hole you mention is the flare, when tightened down, the tube should fit snugly against that. I don't remember what the stock lines for the new caliper looked like, I left them hanging at the junkyard... Email me, I will try to take a picture of this thing tonite. Owen
  25. For my '73, I have braided line in between the stock hard brake line from the rear distribution block and then another hard line from the braided to the caliper. (hard-braided-hard to caliper) I used brass fittings found at most auto parts stores, unfortunately my fittings were ISO instead of double flare but there are no leaks so far. You can get the hard brake lines from most of the same stores. Owen
