  1. Just a quick note....are you sure on the Australian law? I think you may be surprised (wrong) if you check, it does depend on what state or territory you are in... But I'm in Victoria and have only ever once heard of such restrictions, methinks it'll be a broader power to weight restriction (and a cost of insurance restriction). Anyway, not sure but I'd check. Huw
  2. looks great.... have fun sanding when u get up to it!!
  3. have u thought of turbo'ing the 350 motor? There's a twin turbo 350 up in Sydney thats meant to be lethally quick (and expensive mind you!)
  4. may be way off but ...... mine had a similar poblem just after rebuild.....check your thermostat and housing for any crud that may have blocked it up.....make sure it all clean...although it seems this isn't your issue cause u can 'let it off' check neway....
  5. have a look at http://www.240z.id.au chap in brisbane/round that way in aus, tubo zed with leather interior, looks great and he got the upholsterer to stitch the diamond pattern in... It is one of the things i want to do on my zed after i've got it running well and registered. Huw
  6. from my experience (very limited) if you want it to look really good, take them off, it doesn't take long and means that you can get a better coat on the joins/seams...(also means u can give the cones a bit more prep).... The panel shop near me seems to follow the; quick job=on car, good job/resto=take off. just my 2 cents...
  7. nothing wrong with 404's i drive one as my daily while i finish my zed! doesn't get me to places quickly but hasn't let me down yet!! bit of character never hurt anywone as far as spot welds go....you can get the spot-weld bit...but just use a normal one and take a bit of care...if you're really unsure get a mate to show you how it's done. Also, as mentioned earlier....make sure it is supported, I have seen someone fixing one without supporting.....the gaps went to hell.. even if it seems unnecessary, 10 minutes (or less) extra may save you a whole lot of grief. good luck Huw
  8. that sure is a fair bit of rust, but there's much worse out there (one was mine!)...i reckon the hardest bit is going to e getting your rear wheel arches right, whether you flare them or not getting rid of the rust and getting the curve right will be a challenge. If you weren't going to flare them you can actually use the front wheel arches from a spare panel and modify them to fix the flare..... good luck with everything Huw
  9. hey those panels look great.....I'm just wondering would it be possible for you to get them over to Australia? my door trims are stuffed (and i was going to have to make them w/ a speaker modification anyway). Mine is just a plain 71' 240Z. Huw
  10. just throwing this one up in the air, been thinking about it for a while since a friend of mine is putting M3 engine into an 80;s 3 series.... how would the hot M series 6 go in a zed? would it be worth the effort to put it in? Has anyone done it? I know it would sound mean . cause in 'stock' form it puts out round 300 doesn't it? just a topic to ponder Huw
  11. Just doing some research and was wondering if anyone knew the best way of getting a l28et in Oz, (as the turbo engine never came out over here ) is it possible (and affordable!)? or will i need to get a l28 and built it up/source custom manifolds etc? any advice would be nice. Huw
  12. hey probably a bit late, but: I've been round the workshop a lot working on my Z and the prep work for the paint is taking ages, (i took it all the way back to bare metal and have built up from there). Now, I'm by no means an expert but the workshop has (arguably) the best Z panel and paint man around in it. and one of his little gems of wisom, was that the more surfaces/layers there are, the more layers can fail. On their quick jobs they just sand it really thoroughly, but for a full car job, it's worth blasting and doing a bit more work, you'll end up with a better car. just my opinion and observations........just wish i could finish painting my bloody one!!! Huw
  13. This may sound strange but a friend of mine with a restored 73 240Z, said that after doing all the sealing he still had the issue, but that upon replacing two things, it was far better, these were: 1) gearshift boot 2) plugs hidden under upholstery in struts (replaced and sealed) As I've put mine back together, I've gone absolutely stupid with silicone in all of the mentioned places, but I'm yet to drive it so this is just hearsay, but it may help. Huw 71' 240Z wonder how it runs without doors
  14. Just a query, is it possible to fit the head from the Japanese Z (Fairlady Z 432-R on a 240 block? or are the Z-432R engines available in Australia? (that engine is shared with the early skylines isn't it?) It just seems like an interesting swap, especially if it can be worked. Cheers Huw 71 240Z rotisserie style
