  1. If weight is not a concern, then you're ignoring physics.
  2. Could you tell us about how much it weighs altogether? I should look into the shipping weight of the box or something, maybe. Weight is a big concern for me, but I do love power windows. This system looks pretty streamlined.
  3. Thats how that thing pulls. Makes for great midrange on the little motors.
  4. Which thing are you referring to?
  5. Pretty sweet setup you have there. I've always like that 2835. Good turbo.
  6. Whoa, Mike. That's a little uncalled for. The guys at Vildini are really cool. I'm sure they meant no harm. I'd never heard the McKinney mounts needed to be shaved down like that. You sure you put them in correctly? My car has the Vildini mounts and its damn nice.
  7. Looking good. Sorry can't help with line routing. They weren't afraid your fuel tank would explode or something? I had a really hard time finding someone to weld on a sump to mine. (gave up)
  8. Oh, that does look good! Dropped the new doors off at the body shop this morning. They're going to remove any surface rust, do the yellow primer, and spray the inside a little to prevent internal rust. My current doors are rusting from the inside out. Should have yellow doors later in the week!
  9. Thanks for the tips, guys. Yes, I want to get rid of all the green in the car... but its soooo superficial right now. I realize a lot of this bodywork is superficial, but its the difference between driving a nice car or driving a beater. Car guys respect my car... but everyone else thinks I'm white trash when they see it. I'd like to clean up the overall appearance before getting into the nitty gritty like the engine bay.
  10. I've got the skinny carbon fiber flares to go on the back. I was considering doing the back only, or using 4 skinnies. Haven't settled on that yet. Mike - Long time - I am planning to replace the hood. The metal one weighs so freaking much compared to the fiberglass or carbon fiber ones. I don't want the bling-bling look, so if I pony up the cash for carbon fiber, it will be a shame to paint it... but that's what I would likely do. It's a good way to drop another 25 or whatever right off the front where it counts the most for me. I'm always keeping that stuff in mind with front end parts. If'n I'm ever gonna get the front wheels off the ground or close.. it's gotta be light. (of course this will probably be years from now hahaha)
  11. Picked up some nearly rust-free doors today for $100. That should save some of the rust removal work and keep my costs down. Gotta swap the locks and put my tinted windows in them, though.
  12. My guess is pot metal - like matchbox cars. Pot metal is a mix of stuff sometimes - zinc, aluminum, whatever they have laying around, but generally mostly made out of zinc. That's cheap, weak, easy to cast stuff. That also explains why both of my door handles have broken over time.
  13. And here she is, fresh from the body shop: You can see some of the imperfections in the epoxy primer coat - but that will all get sanded out when it goes back for paint. When I get it on a jack, I'll take pics of the inside and the brace so you can see what they did there. I really really really want to do the quarters and rockers now... but the body guy recommended we do the floors first. It's not cosmetic, but would end the whole Flintstones thing I have going right now.
  14. That is awesome. High speed spin that blew the mounting plates off? Awesome.
  15. Sweet! Keep at it! I'm doing the opposite right now, and fixing one panel at a time while daily driving it.
  16. Here's the pics from this morning. The beat up taillights really stand out, now. The set they're putting on look almost mint. We decided to paint the trim pieces black in the center of the lights, as well. I'm ready to order a replica plate now, but they don't ship to california. Before: After: I asked them just to smooth out the cutout around my muffler so it looks professional. They were figuring don't do any paint prep just yet... but it could be months and months before it gets painted. (depends on how well the money flows this year)
  17. Those JDM deck speakers were all the rage when I was over the in the mid 90's. That trend seemed to die down in the 2000's. Always cool to find an easter egg like those wrenches. How much did you get that car for? They're worth tons of money in Japan.. especially when they look that nice. (before resto) I would have had a hard time tearing that thing down, but I suppose you're right. That rust needs to be addressed. Very sorry to hear about your father and your money, but very happy to hear he made it out OK. Hopefully he learned a tough lesson from that and won't do it again. Keep up the work on the car. I'm sure it will come out nice. It will just take time.
  18. That looks great. I was thinking the same thing - buying some aftermarket truck grill and cutting it up to fit. Didn't even consider a stock one, though. Must be cheaper. I don't have the patience to build my own from scratch, I don't think. If I was going to, I might go with vertical slats to be weird. I've seen one or two on Z's that looked great. Now the more pics I look at, the more I'm reconsidering my idea for the front. Without the bumper in place, nothing breaks up the lines on the front end. It loses a bit of the grunt that makes the Z look so tough, in my opinion. I just realized I know Aziza Z, and I've seen that car. We live close. I bought some parts off of him a while back. Maybe I'll give him a call and see what he says.
  19. Well that looks good to me. I'm having a pro do the work, so I'm sure he can clean it up and make it look like nothing ever happened. I had to cut out my wheel wells to fit the 245 50/15's that I had out back. Now I can't even find tires that size so I'm running Yokohama ES100's that are 225 50/15. I wonder if these would clear the stock wheel wells or not... maybe I can get someone to try them out on a stock body Z and see if they rub? If they don't rub, then I will do that whole piece like you did. If they do.. then I'll have to have them chop them out or roll them
  20. Tabco, that's the one I was going to use before. Thanks!! I assume the parts are good quality. Prices a little higher?
  21. Sort of... but I would want it to curve backward under the lights toward the wheels. This one looks too modern for my taste, but you got the right idea. Maybe I can photoshop something. After looking at more pics of these, I'm almost thinking I have to keep the turn signals in place to break up that huge space. Otherwise it looks like a flat wall. (lifted from other thread for example) If that space were filled in... I don't know.
  22. That is sweet! Doesn't look overly complicated - just time consuming. Not sure what he used for spacer blocks, but the main pieces look like your typical L-shaped aluminum pieces you can buy at Home Depot.
