    Shaved Door Handles

From the album: Autism Awareness 570Z

    My door solenoid installation
  2. I can tell you that I used extra door weatherstripping that I had laying around and put it around the radiator opening in the core support. Then I used the Champion mounting tabs to bolt the radiator to the core support. The weatherstripping between the radiator and support allows for movement and helps create a seal that forces the air to come from in front of the core support. I'll let others comment on whether they think this is a good idea or not.
  3. Why stay away from Champion? I'm running their 4-row with great results.
  4. They only run when my high speed fan is on, which is either from high water temperature or from having the A/C on.
  5. I didn't add any reinforcing to my inner fenders and I plugged the other existing holes. The fans are Spal 4" fans that are generally used on Motorcycles and ATVs.
  6. As most people are probably aware, cooling a Z is not an easy task. Stock 240’s ran hot without any modifications, and once you start increasing the horsepower, driving in the desert, and/or adding air conditioning it gets even harder to keep your Z cool. I’ve been working hard to keep my Z cool, and I think I finally have a solution that keeps my modified LT1 V8 240Z cool even on hot days with the A/C blowing nice cold air. The solution isn’t just one thing, it’s a combination of things that all work together to get cool air through a radiator that’s as large as possible and then force the hot air out of the engine compartment. My solution consists of the following: Radiator Ducting: I worked on several designs and created several iterations before I created what I feel is the best solution aesthetically and functionally. It still keeps the same grille opening but ensure that air is routed directly through the radiator starting with a smaller opening and opening up as it approaches the radiator. Everything is sealed as well to ensure air doesn’t escape. Radiator: I’ve gone through three different radiators starting with the JTR radiator, moving onto a 3-row all aluminum model, and then finally a Monster aluminum 4-row. I used the Champion radiator MC110 which are all aluminum, has 14-16 cooling fans per inch, and incorporates brackets for OEM mounting. Fan: Even with ducting most people are going to need to pull in air when running AC or sitting in traffic on a hot day. I used the dual speed Taurus fan which pulls about 2500 CFM on low speed and 4500 on high. These fans work great and are fairly cheap and easy to find. Hot Air Venting: I noticed that when my car would run hot it would cool off if I kept it running and I opened my hood. So I figured that I need to find a way to get that hot air out without opening the hood. Since I already installed gills (fender vents) I decided that I should cut out openings in my inner fenders and install fans to force air out. These work great for me and made a big difference with my setup. You may not need the same level of cooling but getting hot air out is important. You may be able to get away with just using a vented hood or inspection lids or the hideous looking (in my opinion) Datsun Competition Hood Scoop.
  7. There's still images on my website: http://mysite.verizon.net/ress1lhb/barts570z/id13.html
  8. So my Champion 4-row Monster Series Radiator is installed. It fit easily using the stock radiator mounts. As I stated previously I used door weatherstripping around the opening to provide a seal as well as to provide insulation to prevent the radiator from breaking. I pieced the hoses together using JTR splicers and for the most part used my old hoses. The one piece that I bought for this was hose #72010 that provided a short sharp S-curve to get over my intake. The Taurus fan is installed with modified Simpson straps that I bought from Home Depot. I can't comment on the performance yet, but I will put some miles on it and post up results when I have them.
  9. I remember my first Alive moment, and it's quite a feeling. Can't wait to see it!
  10. My current setup is essentially identical to the cardboard mockup I posted pictures of. I'm very happy with the results and it seems to have noticeably brought down my operating temperature. In conjunction with the ducting I have functional fender vents with fans to force hot air out of the engine compartment, and I'm installing an even bigger 4 row radiator.
  11. I have radiator ducting and a stock grille. My air conditioning condensor and oil cooler are inside it as well.
  12. Just an observation on the Koyo radiator - it seems from the images Oddmanout84 posted that a lot of potential cooling area is wasted by the side tanks. This seems especially so when viewed from in front of the radiator support where you see so much of the side tanks through the opening. I would speculate that you want as much cooling area as possible aligned with the opening in the radiator support. Just my 2 cents.
  13. Here's a pic of the radiator in place. I'm using a Taurus fan and if you look close you should be able to see the weatherstripping between the radiator support and the radiator itself. This is extra door weatherstipping I had laying around that should help insulate the radiator as well as provide a seal to force the air through it. As you can also see I created ducting in front of the support as well. The top hose is just pieced together for now with JTR splicers and I will use it to try and find a hose that will fit soon.
  14. I'm in the process of installing a Champion 4-row radiator now and hope it provides that extra level of cooling I'm looking for. I used to use the JTR radiator, but needed a little more cooling power with my hot climate area, upgraded V8 power and Air Conditioning.
  15. Thanks rjstcroix, I'm very familiar with racing4autism - in fact that's where I got my original Autism Awareness theme inspiration. My daughters name is actually on one of the puzzle pieces on their car. I wanted to use the racing4autism logo at first, but they wouldn't give me permission to do so. I hadn't seen your targa240z site before, nice work on that and very generous of you to donote to such worthy causes.
  16. Just thought I'd share the slightly updated theme. I took it to a local show and people seemed to like it...including a few guys from West Coast Customs and Barry's Speed Shop. I won "Best Import" although there wasn't much competition.
  17. So the fans seem to be working well when the car is stopped or moving slow. It was till running a little hot at speed, so I finally completed some aluminum ducting forcing air through the radiator. Although it hasn't been too hot yet, I think I may finally have this issue resolved!
