I'm seeing what you guys paid for and got from guys like Rebello and other Z engine builders. If I can't get my Z to sell, since I'm trying to sell my Trans Am, I might have a few thousand laying around and want a quality built motor. Not necessarily a stroker or anything wild, maybe something even just close to OE, but fresh and new that has quality parts and workmanship.

Question about stock specs (head cc's and stuff)
Mycarispurty replied to Mycarispurty's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Ahh duh...I was so dang busy at work my head was spnning and I couldn't hardly concentrate...thanks for the heads up, I'll go check it out. -
I'm still looking but figured if someone read this and knew it off hand, it might save me some time. I'm pretty much looking for stock engine spec numbers an engine builder would need to calculate compression and all sorts of stuff. Mostly I need stock N42 cc and P90 cc numbers, and maybe some other various things to do with the head or block this guy might need.

Anyone have JTR SBC mount parts for sale?
Mycarispurty replied to Mycarispurty's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Oh it'd be nice to have an LT1 in my Z, just like in my Trans Am...however, I'm going carbed for the simple fact that I don't want to deal with fuel injection, all the computers I'd need, the tuning, etc. Plus LT1s cost a shitload more than a run of the mill older style SBC -
The 300ZX coil is said to be one of the hottest Nissan coils. TonyD said on Zcar.com something about on his HEI triggered system, it shot a blue-white spark almost 3.5 inches.

Ooooh ok, mine didn't come with any of the mounts or wiring harness like yours did. No wonder I couldn't figure out how to hook it up. I figured I might be missing something. How exactly did you go about mounting yours? Did you just take the 300ZX coil mounting hardware, and just lay it on the stock 280Z one and put a couple screws in or something? I'm sure I can figure it out when I get the rest of the stuff, just thought I'd ask.

Anyone?

I'm getting some new plug wires in a couple of days from Ebay, and want to upgrade my coil as well. I was looking at the Z31 coil I bought and it doesn't have 2 wires to screw down like the stock 280Z coil. My question is, how do I hook this thing up so I can use it? Also, does anyone have any sort of mounting stuff for this coil? Being smaller and sorta square, it'll be difficult to get it installed when my car has provisions for cylinder shaped coils.

They're the only 280ZX pistons I see on Ebay, right at $200 for all 6 plus pins and rings. Just curious if anyone's heard of them, and if that price sounds like it's too low, thus being a low quality part. Any input is appreciated.

Anyone know bellhousing bolt sizes?
Mycarispurty replied to Mycarispurty's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Ahh, in order to correct in case someone searches this for an answer in the future, for the upper bolts I used bolts that were a weeeee over 2.5-2.75" long, and for the bottom, ones a hair over 3.5". I bought enough washers to space just in case they were still too long. The 4.5" ones were WAY too long -
Anyone know bellhousing bolt sizes?
Mycarispurty replied to Mycarispurty's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
I took a bolt out of the bellhousing on my 280Z and it appeared to be m10x1.5. I got 110mm long bolts at Ace for $2 each. Now I just need to find someone to help me pick the engine up and put it on the stand -
I got an engine stand last night that I'm going to put my bare block on, but I need to know the size of the bellhouse bolts so I can go to Ace and buy some. Also should I look for a certain type of bolt to hold all that weight? Such as Grade 8, stainless steel, etc?

Ok I had a spare F54 bottom end that I had in storage, disassembled. My parents moved and took it with them since they were closing accounts with that storage place, and they left it sitting out behind the fence in the backyard w/o telling me. They didn't put oil or spray any wd40 on it or anything. The bores have a little bit of surface rust, I assume not bad. The crank seems to worry me a little more. With just surface rust from rain and stuff, how likely is it that the crank needs to be turned and different size bearings used? I know they're tough as far as going a billion miles, but as far as them seeing rust, do they usually stand up well to it or what? I'm just looking for some people's insight who has had a problem like that before. If it is more than just surface rust and needs to be turned, would it be a better idea to just find another crank that's fresh from a parts car or something and have it checked to see if it's good to go? I don't know if turning the Z cranks will degrade their function or quality in any way.

That turbo will last you about 15 miles, maybe 20 if you're really lucky. If you want a t3/t4, get a used Turbonetics one. They're pretty cheap comparitively speaking, and good quality. I saw a used one that was freshly rebuilt by Turbonetics, then they decided to get a bigger one, for $300. I got a rebuilt one with 5k on it for $225.

Check it out, my friend in Chattanooga did my oil pan in wet black/clearcoat for me! http://www.autocyclepc.com/ There's the link to his site, he gave me some run downs on his prices, which are very fair. If you want to see about his colors or some other work he's done, check out his page. Feel free to ask him any questions, his name is Jason.

1-125 2-100 3-95 4-100 5-155 6-160 Even though the car runs like a scalded dog, I guess the search is on for a good condition, great compression bottom end, preferably with a flat top set of stocker pistons (or a rebuilt short block) so I can turbocharge it. I'm pretty sure my head is fine, just need the bottom end.

Anyone have a nice picture of a 77 Z chassis harness laid out? I'm about to order one from Z Barn to replace mine that's been ghetto rigged way too many times so my car will once again be reliable and not just randomly stall. Anyways, if anyone has a picture of it laid out, or has any tips or tricks that they came up with when installing one that isn't common knowledge, such as label label label, I'd appreciate it so I know what I'm getting into. My car's interior is already gutted, so getting to 90% of the wires shouldn't be a problem.

This sound like a good deal for a SBC?
Mycarispurty replied to Mycarispurty's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
He said it was an 010 block, I didn't know what that meant. From what I can tell it's from a 80-85 or 82-85 or something like that. 2 piece rear main or whatever. -

You know of any particular aftermarket manifolds that are ready made for the carbed vortec setup Lason? I'm going to hunt through Summit and Jeg's online sites but if I know what model to look for that'd help quite a bit. -

I'll just have to find a good deal on a set of heads that'll fit the motor correctly. I don't mind if they're iron, or aluminum. I want to stick with just a stock Chevy head. I guess I'll just pick up whatever I find a good deal on at the time I'm ready to purchase and use those. I would like to get a meatier cam...but I'll definately do what the guy said earlier and get my heads first. -

I'm glad to see there are other guys on here that stick up for other members, even newbies (though only newbies on here) and aren't so brand loyal that they discount the performance of anything other than a Nissan product without even having had experience with said product. All hail the 4g63 And of course Z cars woohoo
