  1. I finally have the next 2-days off so I'll get it torn into. being a "yet-to-be-rebuilt" junkyard car I expected problems from it but I thought I knew what to expect, and thought I'd be able to figure out what happens that I wasn't expecting but this one has me really confused. thanks again for all your help guys, I'll post again when I know more.
  2. hmmm... I just changed plugs/wires/cap/rotor about a month and a half ago, Auto Zone generec cap/rotor/wires and Champion plugs. I'll look into that tho, a mechanic at the dealership where I work had a 77 and told me his did the same thing to him and it turned out to be the filter on the inlet of the fuel pump was cloged. so I'm gonna look into that too.
  3. I agree, hide the mounting hardware. my only other thing is IMO yellow accent doesn't work for most color cars but that's an easy fix. maybe make the existing vents narrower (or shrink the borders and move them outward) make the Z taller and add a split 3rd channel on both sides of the Z /----------- / --- Z --- <- something like this /----------- just my 2 bits, but I think I would still buy one if it where made availible (not a yellow one tho, no offence to anyone who likes yellow)
  4. that makes 3 cars that look good that color... cuda, road runners and now Z's... still not my pick but thats not bad looking at all
  5. well I guess I was wrong... it did it again as I was pulling into my parking space... only thing left that I can even think of is that FPR
  6. well today the car did it again and I checked the little box by the distributer... BINGO, had a loose wire, shoved it into place and drove for 3 hrs no prob. yes I have found myself a job, I now am a lot attendant at Bachman chevrolet, so I get to drive bassically anything. and after transporting one from the prep-lot to the dealer I don't like the corvette Z06s they just don't sit right, guess I'm always gonna be a Z guy today I get to drive the 2k2 lancer Evo that we have in the used lot... it's the only thing we have that I wouldn't mind having for myself. and I have filed for enrollment at southern but it will be atleast 3 days before they can accept or deny me as I have to interveiw with the principal who is out of town
  7. we just went through all the fuel lines and checked pressure, in doing so made the discovery that the fuel sample we ended up draining was aprox 1/8th water (speedway gas for ya) we can't find anything elese visibly wrong with it so we added HEET (fuel line anti-freeze/anti-water solution) and we'll know in the morning. I really hope this is the problem since this is the only car I have to drive.
  8. ok this just happened today the first time and myself and my father completely stumped. in my stock (for now) '79 280ZXR going to work this morning about 10 min into the drive I got off the freeway and got stoped at a redlight... within a few seconds the idol droped to a putter and died. I attempted to start it back up but it wouldn't fire. after sitting for a couple minutes the car fired but only ran for a few seconds. about 5 min later I started it back up and drove it to a parking space. 8 hrs later I returned to the car. it fired right up, ran fine. drove around the lot no-problem, so I get on the highway with my father following me and drive home. no sooner than I parked in my place the car puttered and died. same as before I let it sit for a few min and it started right up, but only ran for a minute or so. with this information I can only assume at this point that it is somehow heat related, however it isn't acting like or showing any sighns that it is overheating. I've had the car on the road since late feb and have never had a problem like this. my father (who has had a '76 and 2 '77 280s has never seen anything like this, however I am pretty sure the head is not healthy as I have not rebuilt the motor yet, and the rubber diafram in the fuel pressure regulator seems to have rotted... would this be causing these stalls?
  9. hey dilop, Nice bodywork, have you considered approching a manufacturer with a couple sketches? I have a feeling if someone prodused that nose-kit it would sell very well... I myself would definatly buy it.
  10. no those aren't the stock wheels... I beleive they are ARs, the previous owner had those installed. the ZXR was more or less striped down from the other 280ZXs. they did not have cruise, t-tops (slicktops where still availible on other ZXs) or even power steering. the stripes are the obvious difference in the pictures but the real difference is that the car had the large rubber whale tail, used on the IMSA race cars, installed from factory. Nissan made the ZXR because the rules for the IMSA race series stated that if the car had more than a 2 inch tall lip spoiler, there must be at least 1000 vehicles with the larger wing availible for consumer purchase and street use. so nissan built exactly 1000 homologation units with the wings
  11. well actually that's the next planed stop as soon as the rain stops and it dries a little. we where just wondering if anyone knew what any other differences might be... I know the alternator is also in a different location than my father's car but I don't know if that's just cause it's a different year or if it's from a different motor configuration.
  12. ya it's me... thnx for the welcome.
  13. it's obvious I'm fairly new to posting pics on message forums so... go figure... I did something wrong... but here are the links anyway. http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=3&cat=0&pos=118 http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=2&cat=0&pos=669 http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=2&cat=0&pos=670 http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=2&cat=0&pos=671 http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=2&cat=0&pos=672 http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=2&cat=0&pos=673 http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=2&cat=0&pos=674 there they are.
  14. a friend of mine has recently purchased an 86 n/a, and upon doing the routine changes of timing belt, waterpump, hoses, and o2 sensor we made the discovery that this motor has a different sensor and wire harness than the replacement listed in the parts manuals, this is also a different setup than on my father's '87 n/a. we have been told by a fellow enthusiast that this is a j-spec setup wich would require ordering parts from overseas. this sensor is aprox 3" long and about half inch or less in diameter (smaller than the replacement) anybody's help is greatly appriciated in finding out if this is a j-spec setup and what the differences might be between the 2. thnx
  15. I'll try to get some pics of it up by tonite altho I'll warn you now it's not exactly pristine. I do plan on restoring it to full stock but adding the basic bolt on performance parts such as shocks, springs, and the recommended airdam for the front, possibly a tempory turbo motor swap for SCCA Autocross competition, I think the only addition that might end up being permanent would be a possible roll bar installation but I'm still considering. I know awile back I was in contact with another owner of a ZXR who managed to have a set of still sealed stripes for replacement use, but that was on another forum that I have lost contact with.
  16. thnx for the welcome. I was extreamly surprised to find the car myself. the real shocker is I managed to get a clean title on it, and beleive it or not it is already on the road. the previous owner never junked out the title when she sent the car to the yard, after lots of tracking the people at the DMV actually found her and got in contact for me, and she ordered a duplicate title and it was done... she said the motor was leaking something and wasn't running for pennies when she junked it but all I did was find a battery and it fired right up and ran fine.
  17. I have recently got my hands on a '79 280ZXR wich I rescued from a junkyard. I have great hopes of restoring it... the big problems are the fact that the car needs new paint wich will result in needing the new vynal and the wing has been pulled from the car. I have been to a couple dealerships and many websites looking for original vynal and so far have turned up nothing in the way of replacements. does anyone know if they are still availible through any vendors, or by chance have a set of unused factory replacement decals? my other question I have is if anyone knows for a fact if the wing is still availible. I have been told that courtesy Nissan still has them availible and I don't know if they are still in the NISMO parts catalog. or I have read posts from owners of ZXRs that have had the wing removed, if any of you still have the wing and would be willing to part with it at a resonable price it would be greatly appriciated. thanx
  18. I like the look and have been giving it thought... perhaps the original headlight bezels could be modified along with some minor fiberglass filling and be installed into that nose and use material such as lexan to make a clear cover leveling off the nose...or even just make a sheetmetal box just large enough for the light and install again with a lexan cover. just a thought.
