it was an 04 C5 corvette (not Z06) and yes the transmission from Z barn is correct about the collar. I suppose it is a bit optimistic for me to follow what I was told. and I know its all about aerodynamics aswell as what speeds feel like. a couple years back I was playing around on the Natches Trace (south of Nashville TN) wich is a nice road full of high speed style sweepers, and was clocked at 132mph while on the brakes cause I saw the cop before I crested the hill (I've got the ticket to prove this one) and I know pacing the vette I was moving MUCH faster than I was on the trace I got lucky on that ticket because the judge threw it out because he believed the same as the general concensus, that the car was not capable of such speeds, especially in the curves. like I said, given this ticket that tells me I was doing 132 in 4th gear (also a dyno pull at school where they waved me off for "over speeding my tire rating (H rated=130)" at about 3700rpm in 4th... I've got every reason to beleive the driver of the vette at this point.

like I said... it took a long run to get to max out, I was only told we hit 172 by the vette driver, I never saw his speedo readout, he could have lied to me. as for the powerband, with the cam I've got it is a much different poweband than it was in stock form, it pulls hard all the way up then REALLY pulls hard around 3600 (went from a 16 sec to a 14 sec in the 1/4 mile) for the record I do intend to take the car to the salt flats as soon as I finish my current build... I won't be allowed to do an official timed pass because I wont have all the proper saftey equipment, but I do intend on taking a GPS unit, and I will find out for sure. as for your ZXR, we've already gone through the discussion that mine has some veriables from yours, as I've said before my car lacks all the sound deadening material on the inside of the car, none of that tar-like spray exists in the floors like it did my 2+2 and turbo project, I can't find anything that would indicate that any of it was removed by any individual due to the fact that the paint on the floorboards is a perfect match to the body, and it seems like a pretty foolish thing to remove the material and re-finish the floor to send the car (not wrecked and still running) to an assumed eternity waiting for the crusher. I know for a fact the car sat for atleast 8 years in the yard, and it was a woman's car before that (I've met her and she knew very little about what the car actually was) I've only been able to go by the differences between my '79 2+2, my 79 with 83 L28ET swapped, and my buddies '80. I know stock my ZXR had a much better cruising RPM than the other cars I had, and would easily outrun the other 2 n/a cars... after the header/cam install it pulled just as hard as my turbo on 10 lbs but without lag, thus I decided to scrap the turbo idea and build an all motor car. I really wish I was able to talk to MORE ZXR owners just to find out if there are other variences between more than just 2 cars, as your the only other owner I've been able to continuously communicate with. (wow this turned into a long post)

it makes me think too much of camaros personally... (wonder why? ) I'd rather have the louverd hood on the Z fiberglass site but seems he's out of buisness

I know the ratio in my '79 ZXR is much different than my buddy's 80 ZX 2 seater 5spd... @ 75mph I'm only turning around 2800 rpm where his car turns around 3400 rpm in 5th gear I have verified that 75 IS 75 via GPS unit but havn't had the GPS in the car since then, guess I need to put it back together and see then. the car DID alot of floating with the stock suspension (and ZXR Wing missing) but with the 2" drop (tokicos) it DRASTICALLY reduces the floaty-ness ,after the Re-installation of the ZXR wing its never felt like it was even CLOSE to floating around

I'm on a 205/70 now, was on a 215/60 and there wasn't much (if any difference) I' loved the stance with the 215/60s but the good tires no longer come that size
-
I don't know the rates... but you'll notice a difference as soon as you pull out of the driveway. the car will roll much less in the curves, hug the corners alot harder (before tire squeal) it still seems to squat excessivly though, but not as much as it did before. also I've noticed it has a great tendancy to throw itself sideways while engine braking in hard (autoX curves) but not on street conditions. I'm thinking either a stiffer front bar and/or LSD would solve that problem. the car will be MUCH more responsive into corners and you'll definatly feel the road a little more. the ride will be a little rougher than stock but still tolerable enough I don't give it a 2nd thought as a DD car. the only other downfall is with the drop you gain a good deal of negative camber, wich will help cornering but will worsen tire wear, although I got just as much life out of my tires after the drop as I did before the drop...just watch out for drifting.. you'll REALLY eat the inside edge of the rears quicker.

the only other thing I did to it was wired the cold start injector to fire with the rest of them to act as a TBI to correct the fuel starvation due to the oversized cam (still isn't really getting enough but its WAY better). next step will either be DSM injectors or tripple webbers. if he lied to me about our speed, then I don't know about it. I do know for a fact that my 130 speedo started bouncing off the stop peg before I was out of 4th gear. and by the time I was up to 4500rpm in 5th the stripes on the road where going by REAL fast.

your forgetting about the change in smog laws and the increase in smog equipment that chokes the ZX down, remove the EGR and gut the cat, she'll wake up on the top end. with smog delete+headers+cam+straight pipe I ran pace with a vette on an open stretch... according to his digital speedo we where up to 172 when I finally topped out.... took awile to get there mind you... probably 2-3 miles...but we toped 130 still in 4th gear. not sure if the 2" drop on the car would HELP aero but the drag machine ZXR wing probably hurt the top end... but she sure was stable. I have no doubt in my mind that with headlight covers and uped compression and more fuel she COULD see 200mph on a wide open run

na, when you drop the car and put the stiffer springs on it it greatly reduces the body roll, I auto X mine, no problems in the suspension area
-
the tokicos spring is shorter than the shock's expansion aswell, I just alighned the spring in the cup and sat the car on the ground, its just fine, handles great and have yet to have any kind of a problem, aside from when the dickwads at the tire store told me they didn't fit right and "adjusted them to be closer" by rotating them so they werent' sitting in their cups right.... needless to say I was ready to do some bitchslappin

ok so the S-30 tails don't play out as cleanly as I woulda expected..... what about Z32 tails? maybe with the full rear panel (narrowed to fit the car of course)
-
the stang tailights are probably the best non-oem tails I've seen installed... I like the 79 tails myself but thought about grafting S-30 tails into the project car I had goin... kinda debating trying it in the ZXR but a part of me wants to keep the originals in being that its a ZXR

should be a powered rack and pinion. I don't know if the steering ratios are the same as the 79's racks or if the angle will travel the same distance... I would assume it does... in wich case you should be fine... but then I guess it really depends how fast you can saw that wheel as to if you should try to quicken the ratio or not.
-
the manual rack in my ZXR handles it just fine, there is PLENTY of angle to be had in stock form, the recripicating ball setup (80-82) seems to have the same angle and seems to be just as quick reaction. my biggest problem with drifting is I'm still open diff and it likes to unload one side or the other.

poooor Z... this is one of those cases where I truely would beat the guys a** for doing that to the car... or atleast smack him upside the head

Little bit of wisdom after a crash....
ZXR_KiD replied to Globerunner513's topic in Body Kits & Paint
ya, glad to see there wasn't much damage. road end in a T? if you don't mind my asking... -
lil excessive with the speakers just messin did you make the metal instrement panel too? or did you find that somewhere? and what are those in the center gauges? more little speakers? or digital guages? or just fillers? (only curious)
-
Zbarn has a bunch of used interior panels... I really don't know of any fiberglass parts availible though
-
Arizona Z used to make the kit, I know Z fiberglass has it on his site if you can get ahold of anyone... the only other place I've seen it is Showcars... but don't go through them.. its asking to get screwed. hit up the bodykits/paint forum, others may know more.

ahh, thanks for the info... I don't need the brakes I just need to replace the bent arm and bent hub yes the HUB is bent but not the rotor.
-
ight thanks... I looked for fiches but the images wouldn't load on my comp.

hi, first off I'm not a big Z31 guy but I love all gen Zs... my father's got an 87 n/a, unfortunate events unfolded to leave the car with a bent hub and bent suspension arm. the local yard has an '86... I need to know if the '86 has the same hub as the 87,... I know the 84/85 cars have the other hub and slightly narrower control arm. but is the 86 interchangeable with the 87?

holley backfires, any ideas?

my only guess would be that your timing is off, or your exhaust is too restrictive..... just a guess -

I agree 100% that tripple webbers are the way to go with N/A... but they are quite a bit more expensive and harder to find than the Arizona intake and a holly 4 barrel, and typically a ford 5.0 guy would know where to come across a carb for next to nothing. I myself am looking for a set of tripple webbers but unfortunatly I currently lack the kind of funds necessary
