  1. treat an L28 with the same treatment you would the 302 and it should get you to the 12-13s. there are some goodies like cams and such availible at http://www.arizonazcar.com/ technically they're for a 280 Z but its the same engine... theres also an intake to mount a Holley 390 4brl carb onto her... the intake is reasonably cheap for being what it is, but the cams are a little steaper... go with parts like that, have the head shaved a bit maybe and a pair of headers and that thing will act more like a muscle car than anyone gives em credit for. with nothing more than an oversized cam, headers, and hollowing the cat. my car went from a 16.3 1/4 to a 14.2 (WITH a tire fryin 2.9 60')
  2. for rally purposes I'd think welding the diff would be ok, you'll be spinning tires (powersliding) most the corners you make anyway... and honestly I'm not sure if stiffer swaybars would be the way to go since you'll want the suspension to soak up the bumps and jumps without tossing the car side to side... just my .02
  3. he is talking about something local... there is a 2k limited challeng put on by Grassroots Racing Magazine I plan on entering next year... I'll look for links for info later... as for boost... its over-rated. I was running just almost as quick with my full interior'd n/a car with exhaust and cam as I was running with my GUTTED turbo running 12lbs (granted it was a half-ass tune) and the N/A is far better suited for autoX purposes since theres NO lag
  4. ya you won't have an issue... as far as I know the only difference would be the front end has a different steering rack, but the struts are the same
  5. drop a couple hundred on a set of Tokico shocks and springs... 2 inch drop PHENOMENAL increase in handling and it only rides a little bit stiffer than stock, DEFINATLY still daily drive-able HEADLIGHT covers, won't really increase performance on the drags or autoX but I've heard from a couple S-130 owners that just the covers will get you another 2-3 mpg on highway driving (I've got a pair but gotta get mine back together before I can tell if theres a difference) alot of people will tell you the 240SX 60Mm throttle body is the way to go... possibly my next mod. headers can be had fairly cheap, definatly will make a difference. should you decide to go with a cam (not sure on cost) if the cam is too big for the stock fuel system you can run a turbo pump and turbo injectors OR turbo pump and hot wire the cold start fuel injector to fire along with the #1 (I've done it... it helps but still not perfect) I went with header and cam on mine and picked up almost 2 seconds at the quarter mile (still only a 14.2) I still didn't have enough fuel to the cam I have and was expiriencing lean out around 4200rpms so theres alot more yet to be had.
  6. the car that ran before me spun and whiped out a bunch of cones... I got waived off so they could re-set the cones.. I got a re-run but it didn't get recorded.
  7. I think its because the cruise servo will only hold the throttle back so far, thats just a guess though.
  8. at the time that video was shot I was able to jump onto either bumper and bottom out that end of the car... shocks and springs have since been replaced with Tokico units and the car handles SOOO much better (looks better with the drop too)
  9. only still pic I've got on the autoX course... and a vid from the 2nd auto X I ever did... I got waved off tho(yes I know the suspension was well...shot)
  10. you must grace a fellow ZXR owner with pics and congrats on picking yours up for a steal... mine was cheaper (but in rougher shape)
  11. if MSA fails you Black Dragon automotive (Formerly Victoria British) carries them aswell
  12. if the re-painter didn't remove the sticker it would be a gold sticker on the front core support.
  13. similar in appearance, but the angle of the deflection surface isn't as steep, downforce won't be as much as the actual ZXR tail. the zxr tail also has a dip in the center of the wing I'm guessing to aid visibility(because thats exactly where it lines up in my mirror)
  14. Found yours... image 7 second row, second # down. your page isn't loading for me tho. even modified a ZXR just isn't a ZXR without its whale tail... that is something my car will retain for good. you have to use a program with a zoom feature to make the lists readable...
  15. too bad Nissan discontinued the wing a couple years ago, and sold off their inventory.... there was a thread in the body kits and paint section when all this happened. I managed to get one of the last OEM wings to replace mine wich had been RIPPED off the car before I could take it home from the junkyard... I think the thread names a company that makes a fiberglass reproduction of the wing though if anyone's interested
  16. yea mine has the tubing aswell, however mine has no sound-deadening material anywhere in the car, its carpet-padding-paint-metal, no deadening spray. I too am highly modifying mine, drove it to almost 300K before the rod bearings went and I pulled the motor apart and the cam is indeed different than the cam in the other 2 engines I've got I will admit that I cannot vouch for any of the car's history untill about 5 years ago now, I pulled it out of a salvage yard where it apparently sat for nearly 10 years. so its possible the cam and sound deadening removal was done by previous owner, but that would be ALOT of work to do to a car to junk it. and the fact that all I did was put a battery in the car and started driving it tells me that it wasn't junked for any kind of real problem. edit: yes 30 not 300 my bad for the extra zero
  17. the ZXRs are ALL identicle cars , Silver with the vinyl 3-tone stripes, black interior, 5spds and no options EXCEPT Air conditioning. the Whale tail is really what makes the car special. other than that the only special thing about them is the fact that they lack ALL the noise reduction coatings from the inside of the car wich saves around 300lbs from a standard S-130 Slicktop, someone at Nissan Motorsports told me that the first 300 ZXRs built also had a mildly more aggressive camshaft than standard 280ZXs, my car (beleived to be #6) does indeed have a different camshaft than the 79 2+2 I had, so there might be some truth to that too.
  18. all the ZXRs should be '79 vins... no 1980s....
  19. OOOOO I WANT To see them papers.... I'm curious to know if the console numbering that I've found follows any confirming data
  20. interesting idea, I'm sure if someone's good enough with wiring they can figure out how to make it work... as for anyone who wants to modify a stock digi dash, I've got one someone can have for the cost of me shipping it to ya... I don't plan on using it as I greatly prefer analog
  21. mine made the 1/4 in 16.3 stock and would definatly top the 130 mark... but nice article none the less
  22. ZXRs don't have rear wipers. theres not even a punchhole where there used to be one... the only way I know of telling a ZXR is still up in the air... I discovered kinda by accident that on the center console lid if you take the pad off the base there is a white # written on the backside of the pad... mine has what is either a #6 or a #9 written in it. I've only talked to one other ZXR owner and we pulled his apart in a parking lot to find #219 written in his in the same white marker. perhaps someone on Nissan's line marked them.
  23. I'm gonna start by sayin theres some beautiful S-130s in here and I hope mine will eventually reach that point. about 4 years ago now I rescued this little gem from a local salvage yard literally while it was en'route to the crusher after a bath she cleaned up fairly nicely Alas the wing was ripped from its perch before I could save it (some of you may have seen this picture in the back of Sport Z magazine a couple years back) and here it is after I received what I was told was the LAST OEM ZXR wing in Nissan's inventory and tearin up autoX the original motor spun bearings at 300,Xxx+ after giving me 2 years of daily driving (rebuilding said engine) it was replaced temporarily by a half built L28 out of an ex SCCA track car wich proved to be a devastatingly overpowered engine for the stock trany as I broke 2nd gear into multiple fragments at the dragstrip, I'm probably a weeks work away from having it operational again. also its been riding on Tokico shocks and springs for the last 3 years
  24. not quite the same airdam, the bottom vents are different and it don't have the slats... I actually preferr this one... any source information for it?
  25. whatever struts came on my ZXR are still holding my wing without issues.
