  1. If this turns out to be true (and anyone that uses a computer can tell), Kerry is toast by next Monday. This has nothing to do with 30 years ago and everything to do with what a campaign is willing to do to try and win. The guy on 60 minutes is a part of the Kerry campaign and that is where this will ultimately bring Kerry down. I would hate to see it end this way. Sorry Phil, but I find it odd that a couple of weeks ago in another post you were complaining about the smear campaign that the republicans were doing and now you want to get back to the issues. Sounds alot like what Kerry's people told him to do after the failed attempt of using a 30+ year old war as part of his campaign. And now for some god for saken reason, they brought it back to the forefront only after a couple of days. I'm willing to bet any one on this forum could run his campaign better than how it's being run right now. It's sad to watch just how stupid this presidential race has gotten
  2. Mike, is the Scarab Z a true documented Scarab conversion (what number is it)? If it is I would think the value would be much better if he left it alone. With all the changes that are being done, he'd be better off buying a 240Z shell and go from there wouldn't you think. There probably aren't that many true Scarabs out on the road. And that car on ebay doesn't seem to have any Scarab look to it other than it has a V8 in it.
  3. Has anyone ever used a 280ZX fuel tank in their early Z V8 conversion? I'm thinking of using one so that I can run a true dual exhaust I see that I would have to have it chopped to make it fit, but other than that is it compatable? It looks like there would be over a foot of space on either side which would give me more than enough room to run the exhaust. Any advice would be appreciated.
  4. Explain to me how Bush having never been in combat and being president and Clinton never being in combat and being president is any different. when Clinton was running, I'm guessing you were siding with his campaigns view that it wasn't an issue. It wasn't an issue with me then and it isn't an issue with me now (Kerry wants to make it an issue). And in case you were wondering I voted for Clinton so don't label me a hardline republican. I voted for who I thought was the best person for the job at that time. And I'll do the same thing this time. My last few posts started out asking a simple question. If there are smear campaigns going on by all means list them. But to be fair list both sides. So far all I get is talking points that are no different than what I can find on TV and the paper. I'm just asking for a list, I can't imagine how hard it would be to answer if I asked for real proof to back up each point.
  5. Ok, still no answer to my simple question, just more talking points and spin. Phil1934, I noticed your last comment: "And to 9/11 the World Trade Center has been bombed by terrorists before, I think on Reagan's term. But we didn't start a war that will eventually destabilize the entire Mid East, a war with a country that had no links to the incident." Regan left office in 88, so the WTC bombing happened under Clintons watch. How can we destabilize the middle east when it has never been stable in the first place. My question still stands: smearing charges, side by side from both parties. One more thing. Will Bush be blamed for the economy dropping a bit because of Francis. My guess is yes, because we all know that natural disasters are the presidents fault. I heard a rumor that Air Force 1 was spotted in the south Atlantic seeding the clouds to create more hurricanes. Run with it guys.
  6. I'm trying to take what you said and learn from it. Okay, so what you are telling me is that everything that is associated with Bush should be looked at and Kerry should be left alone? My specific question was to list the smear charges and to make it fair I asked for both sides. That way I can compare them side by side. I read your response a few times and could not find it. I thought my question was pretty simple, two lists from both sides and all I read was democratic talking points. I'll try to break this down so I can understand it better. I'll start with the economy. If Bush said it's the strongest it's ever been, I would call that a stretch. There have probably been better times but they were before I was born (I'm guessing since my life on a day to day basis hasn't been effected all that much no matter which party holds the presidency). Now from what I understand Kerry's campaign says that the economy is bad. Of coarse I expect to hear the complete opposite (it wouldn't be a contest if both sides agreed). Interesting, I find that to be a stretch as well. So from what I can see from this is that both sides are stretching it. The 9/11 debate. Who is at fault. Bush, Clinton. Regan, Carter. I could list every president but that would take too much time. I don't blame one person, the sad part about this is that both parties are to blame in one way or another and it has to do with failed policies going back as far as you would like to look. But the problem I see from both parties is that no one wants to blame the people that did it and leave it at that. My guess is, that would be too easy and again both sides would have nothing to argue about. If we are going to blame a president for what happened on 9/11 then we better go back and find out which president to blame for allowing the bombing of Pearl Harbor. You can't tell me there weren't warning signs. I will say that what I have said here has no spin on it. It's just my opinion. I'm not picking sides, I'm just trying to compare the differences without saying what has already been said by reporters, papers and political strategists. I was going to write more about taxes, healthcare, political records of both Bush and Kerry and abortion but I find that this is not as fun as it is to just read what others have to say. My original question still stands if you would like to answer it. Just a simple list of smear charges from both campaigns.
  7. Phil1934, I would love for you to list all the smear charges. And to be fair please list all of them from both sides. That way I can see just what all this smear talk is all about. I want to be as much as an informed voter as I can. Thanks
  8. It's been funny to watch Kerry give two different answers to one question. But it will become really sad when the republicans truely start to exploit it. It's hard to watch someone on a national stage get cornered with no way out. I think you have to be crazy to want to be President of the United States.
  9. Bottom line is no president before Bush (Regan and Clinton) took a hardline stand and terrorist acts were commited on both watches. Yes, even Regan was a little soft. Political fallout scares alot of people. Right or wrong Bush makes a stand and doesn't back down because of political pressure and it's about time. We can be very thankful that what's happening over in Russia right now isn't happening over hear. And don't think for a minute that terrorist wouldn't stoop to that level here in the states if the door was open to them. We need to stay one step ahead and not worry about what some other countries think of us when they don't like us in the first place. And other countries not liking us wasn't invented by Bush. It's a trend that has been going on way before he was president and it will go on long after he is gone.
  10. Everyone should be happy we're kicking some a$$ around the world (instead of dropping some bombs on a few dirt mounds and calling it a day). We could be Russia and look what's happening to them. Fight them over there instead of over here. You won't be singing the praises of negotiation when a bomb explodes near you. Haven't you noticed that North Korea and Iran have quited down since we went into Iraq. They realise that the US will no longer sit back and negotiate. Kerry can't make a decision on how to run his campaign. How do you expect him to make the right decisions for us.
  11. Boy, do I feel stupid. I just found out where the JTR manual talks about the TIU. The stupid part is I read it when I was getting my wires together and I didn't remember it. Oh well, I guess this post is meaningless at this point. The info was on page 10-1.
  12. Traced all the wires from the ignition and the TIU and it looks like it's a deadend box just like the voltage regulator which I've already removed. Since all my wires are ready to go from the directions in the JTR book, I think it's safe to keep the TIU box out of the loop. Thanks for the help guys. Also, kudos to to a guy (wal280z) over on classiczcars.com who recreated the wiring diagram for a 77 280Z using autocad. I was able to print out a full size version in grayscale to have in front of me and also had the hires image in color on my screen to refer to. Made it a lot easier to follow. And full size means I had to tape together 12 pages of printout (49" across). Well worth the extra time to do that.
  13. This question pertains to my 280Z. I figure there is a way to run the ignition without the TIU since I'm giving it to the person that bought my turbo motor (he is putting it in his 240Z). I would like to keep the same wiring system that is already in the car. I just figured i would ask first before tracing wires and rerouting them. There is no mention of this in the JTR manual.
  14. Can someone help me out on this. I want to bypass the TIU becaiuse a friend that I sold my turbo needs it for his 240Z. I'm guessing that I don't need it in my 280 since I have gone to a carbed 350. With this being the case, what is the easiest way to bypass it so that the ignition still works. Any advice would be much appreciated. I did some searching but couldn't find anything specific on it. Thanks in advance.
  15. Thanks for the thread John, it took me a while but I read the whole article. Did anyone else take the time to read it? I thought it was very informative. And Carr was a little late with his prediction. Didn't Nostradamus predict that back in the 17th century.
  16. The last two post by MikeK and Bastaad525 were exactly what I was looking for. Not a debate on a turboed L6 vs a V8, but more facts on what determined the original outcome. Thanks guys. On another note, how come Hybrid Z doesn't have a drag event on the west coast like the SEZ event back east?
  17. Do you guys think that this is a debate between a turbocherged L6 and a V8? I'm only comparing what I have experienced with two cars of similar make and engine setups. I'm not intrested in debating which is better, a turboed L6 or a V8. There are to many variations that make it impossible to debate. I'm only asking questions because of what I have experienced with my own cars and the fact that my outcome would have been very different. And like I said before Tim would be waving bye-bye as he shifts into second againts a L28ET conversion runing 11psi. Sorry about the mixup saying a 280ZX when the conversion is in a 240Z. Still don't think it would change the outcome with my comparison/experience.
  18. I'm not disputing what happened only that from my experiece with both a 280ZT and a 67 Chevelle, that my 280ZT would have been no match. In fact I kept letting a lot of Z owners drive my 280ZT because I wanted to hear from them if they thought my car was fast . They said it was but to me it still did not compare to my Chevelle. I would love to see this Chevy II up close to see just what has been done to it. And I continue to say that Tim would be waving bye-bye as he shifts into second againts a L28ET conversion runing 11psi.
  19. Somebody help me out with this story. The Z puts out about 210 to the wheels and the Chevy II puts out about 260? Weight can't be that far off unless the driver of the Chevy II is 600lbs. The Z wins by 4-5 car lengths (how long was this race?). Both terrible launches (did he spin through all three gears?). These are the facts, right? I can't beleive there could be that much of a difference between the two cars. So it comes down to driving ability. Either that or the guy is a really bad engine builder and his estimate of 300hp to the crank is really 200hp. The reason I ask is because I had a turbo in a 78 putting out 200hp to the wheels with only 8psi of boost. And no matter how good the car was running it would have never come close to beating my 67 Chevelle SS with a little ole 350 in it. The Chevelle is a heavier car than the Chevy II and the only major differences were the engine and the rearend. My Chevelle had 4.88's. With my Z being pretty close to the 280ZX (with less weight) and the Chevelle being heavier than the Chevy II and having driven both cars (my Z and Chevelle) I can't see this being a cake walk for the ZX without something being very wrong with the Chevy II. Having riden in a Z32 with a LS1 and seeing how much power it had, I can only imagine what it's like in a 240/280Z. My guess is Tim would be waving bye-bye after shifting into second.
  20. Never used a jack before, just lifted the car, rolled underneath with the tranny on my belly and slid it in. If it doesn't go in the first time and you get tired, set it back down on your belly, rest and try it again. It's a one man job when you do it this way.
  21. Read my post again, it was meant to have some humor in it. But on a more serious note. The US will never be liked by any Middle Eastern country as long as we defend Isreal. That is the main reason we are hated in that region. Anything else is icing on the cake for those countries. I'm not saying that we should stop supporting them because if we did, Isreal would be destroyed within months. So what we do as a country in that region either good or bad will never put us on their good side as long as the policies stay the same. And you can bet that no matter who is president, that policy will never change. Peace in the Middle East is nothing more than a catch phrase created for marketing. Our government believed it could be acheived 30+ years ago and the only changes since that time has been the five different administrations. Like I said, how long are we going to keep trying to put out fires around the world that have been raging for decades and that we know are almost impossible to put out. The answer is easy. Look at our history and you can see that we will always carry a bucket of water where ever we go. This is just one part of many problems that will bever be solved. Like everyone before us, we'll just have to learn to live with it. And guess what, we do.
  22. I agree Mike, in fact close all the borders, stop sending aid to all other countries for 1 year and lets see where the world ends up. They will be begging for us to come back. The world would look like road warriors and the US will be the fort eveyone trys to get into. Just once we should stop trying to put out fires around the world that have been raging for decades. Take the money that is saved and make our lives better and ewveryone will be happy (not). Tap oil from Alaska and end the pipeline to the Middle east and the outside world can kill each other. We wait till the world is half it's size and then we start all over again. But no matter what we do, I'm keeping my Z.
  23. RCNSC is 17! That would explain a lot. I see a lot of posts since my question (Who would be the perfect president?) and no one has even tried to answer it. Just like a politcian, blame, complain, but heaven forbid answer the question, you might have to defend it.
  24. I've got a question for all of you. Who would be the perfect president? If Bush is re-elected you will complain. If Kerry is elected you will complain. My guess is as long as you are not president and can't be blamed, then you will do all the blaming. For everyone who's life is good or bad and you wake up every morning to make it through another day, good for you. For everyone that wants to blame one person for all the ills of the world and the reason you can't make it another day, smack yourself in the head and realize that you are the only one that can make a difference in your life. From the way people talk, there has never been a perfect president to date, so what makes you think that will change this time. When you realize that most if not all politicians are out for two things in their lives. One is to get elected and second is to get re-elected. All the truths or lies in the world won't change those objectives. And don't keep feeding me "we have to look out for our children's future". That line has been so abused over the years. They were saying that to my parents when I was a kid and guess what, I wake up every morning and live my life. And I take full responsiblity for my actions. I don't need a political party to tell me otherwise Vote for who ever makes you feel good, but don't blame others for your own problems. If you do, then I guess I'll see you in four years complaining about the same things that you are complaining about now. But at least vote so your complaining will have meaning
  25. In case you guys didn't know it. If you have two or three insured cars, you only have to have uninsured motorist on one of them and it will cover all of them. Found this out a year ago when I asked my agent about it. The reason they don't tell people is because they say no one asks. It saved me $100 a year.
