I would have never thought I would put a V8 in the Z, but after coming across the info on Johns Cars sight I changed my mind. Producing the power an LSx does stock and moving the engine weight further back in the Z...... Nostalgia aside it really is a no brainer. I've skimmed through the first 40 pages of the Gen III & IV forum and have found a lot of good info. My plan going forward: Fuel: Sumped tank, Walbro pump, C5 filter/regular mounted in engine bay, stock fuel rail flipped. Mounts: John's Cars engine, John's Cars transmission (with modification to mount to Bad Dog frame rails). JTR: Headers, radiator (stock Camaro cooling fans), and intake set up. PCM: www.Wait4mePerofmance.com code delete and harness modification, mounted under glove box Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself to the V8 crowd. Any input is welcome! Here is my build thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/90669-1973-240z-build/page__st__60__gopid__1001606#entry1001606 One last thing..... below was the only thread I could find on the emissions removal. Are there any other threads that better identify the unneeded stuff from the engine? http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/82672-ls1-top-view/

The tides have changed! I have decided to ditch the L28T plan and drop an LS1 into the Z. I fancy myself as a Datsun/nissan enthusiast (my first car was a 280Z and I daily drive/wheel an Xterra) and that was the major driving force for keeping the L-series motor. The more I read about performance (HP and Handling) the more the LSX motors seemed to make sense. That being said after long though on the L28T, SR20, and LS1 I bought this: From my reading the 300zx R200 LSD and CV's should hold up fine, plus I have already installed the Bad Dog sub frame connectors. I will keep the engine stock (which if my research serves me right the 2001 Camaro produced 340 HP) so my build should be able to handle the power. Feel free to comment or give advice as I move forward!

240 TOYOTA 4 PISTON BRAKE CALIPER UPGRADE
UofA_ZCar replied to MYRON's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
+1 for silver mine motorsports -
So I took a break from fuel lines and installed new wheel bearings, 280Z stub axles, the Desert Z rear disc Brake Conversion, and JMortesen's CV companion flanges. Here is how I went about breaking the stub axle nut free: The ratchet pins up agains the lower control arm and then I just pushed down on the bar pinned into the lugs.... broke free with no problem. I had soaked the nut in PBBlaster for a few days. Painting the 280z stub axles and JMortesen companion flanges: Flange installed: Drums before and after Desert Z brake kit: Overall I was happy with this kit especially given the price and the fact that the cable E-brake still functions! I painted the calipers "Lave Red" (a 2012 color used by Nissan)....... it has a cool orange-ish tint in the sunlight. The braided fuel lines are a bit long (from silvermine motorsports), so I will need to source a shorter set. If anyone has suggestions on where to do so it would be appreciated.

nice! Must feel good to be so close to driving it

I know this is an OLD thread but I have a relevant question. After tons of reading on fuel injection fuel pumps being pushers not pullers and reading the Walbro sticky, I want to find a way to mount my pump below the fuel tank. Obviously this is difficult with how low the tank is, so I though "how about mounting it to the tank. My question for the guru's out there is if there is an obvious reason why this would NOT be a good idea? I know the pump is more exposed than if it were tucked up higher, but honestly I don't imagine it is often that rocks get shot up at this region of the gas tank. Thanks in advance for your input!

This is how I ran my return fuel line:

And the AN fittings have arrived! I've never assembled an AN fitting/braided fuel line before, I found this video to be helpful: Here is the return fuel line I made today and how I ran it:

things are really starting to come together! Spent today modifying things to install the 1987 300zx LSD I bought a few months ago. I installed the RT diff mount and Burleigh's steel brace that clears the finned covert. I haven't decided if I will us a different poly bushing on the RT mount in conjunction with the OEM rubber mount in an attempt to keep the stock pinion angle or not. Doesn't seem like people have issue's just running the RT mount, so I'll probably just leave it as is. The steel brace install was straight forward and easy, the only issue I had was that the bends on the brace were no true. There was a small twist to the bar which lead to some additional tweaking on the install, but in the end it all worked out.

I came across another set up by dsommer: Origional build thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/63391-resurection-now-becoming-1tufzg-z/ I decided that I am going to drill holes through the gas tank straps so that I can put a bolt there with the threads facing the ground. Then when the braided line comes off the sump I can just bolt it to the gas tank strap. I considered doing the hard lines from the sump but I think the soft lines will be fine. I'll post pictures once I am done.

I have one from an 81 280zx turbo. I'll get some pictures your way.

Thanks for the encouragement VKLR! Finally to a point where I get to put stuff back on the Z! Had the sump welded on my gas tank at BTB (www.btbprod.com) and then had the Gas Tank Renu sealer done at Mac’s Radiator Service in Bellflower California (562) 920-1871. I used this sump: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CEE-4041/ I also installed all new vapor lines from the tank. Now I am just waiting on Jerryb to get another run of SS gas tank straps going.

Spent a few hours today finishing up the hard lines and installing the new hardline insulators. Free time to work on the Z has been very limited lately.
-
I am also interested in a set of SS straps for a 240Z

Rubber Fittings for Fuel Hardlines
UofA_ZCar replied to UofA_ZCar's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
You guys are the bomb.... thanks for all the replies! Getting them locally would be the best. I went to the Fuel Delivery forum but did not see "Custom Solutions" subforum....... am I missing something? Would you mind just hitting me with the part number or a link to the subforum? Thanks -
Where can I find the rubber fitting seen on the top left of this photo? I've checked blackdragon and MSA without luck. Any other ideas? Even if someone could point me to where I can find chunks of rubber stock like that, I can drill the holes and cut to size.
-
Nigel thanks for posting that up! Your setup was the picture I had seen several months ago and was trying to find again. I think I'm going to run it how you did.
-
My sump is in the same place as yours and I do plan to use 180* AN fittings off the sump into a braided line. I have seen a picture of it before in a build thread but I can't find it nor do I remember how he secured the braided line. Sure thing! I have been meaining to swing by and check out your Z since it is running, but it is a trek out to your part of town.
-
Well after looking through build threads for an hour or so here are the only pictures I have found thus far. Here is the origional build thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/72907-ross-sleeper-z/ I'll post more as I find them, but it would be much easier if people could post some up.
-
Thanks for the replies. I have a much better understanding on how the injectors and FPR function from your post Tony......thanks. In the future when I get it all in the car and get in working I'm sure I'll have more questions.

I'm going to run my fuel line from the sump into at 180 degree bend AN fitting, through braided line, to my fuel pump (which will be mounted in the space between the gas tank and the differential on the passenger side). My main concern is how to attach the braided fuel line that will run along the gas tank, so it doesn't just hang loosely. I'm also trying to get an idea of how people fit all that stuff (pump, filter, lines) in that space. If possible could people post up pictures of how they set this all up? I have searched and I know buried in various build threads there are good pictures but hell if I could find them. This thread could be a good resource if enough people post pictures. Thanks

Both fuel feed and return lines are done now!

$50.... Nice find! That is a great color also.

I've been on a bit of a hiatus with the Z due to other obligations, but I'm back at it now. Over the last few weeks I have been putting new brake line, clutch line, and fuel lines in. I have to say this is not my cup of tea but after I run the return fuel line I will be done! I also changed out the brake master cylinder for the larger one from a 280ZX and put in a Wilwood proportioning valve.... this seemed like a good idea since I want to convert to disk brakes in the back. I have not decided if I will go vented rotors in the front yet. Then the plan will be: -Finish up/install sumped gas tank -Run braided lines with AN fittings to the fuel tank -Install the LSD and CV halfshafts -Then FNALLY put the motor in and start learning about Mega Squirt..... Bottom one is from the 280zx New hard lines Does anyone know were I can get the rubber pieces that hold the hard lines into the bracket (top left of the last picture)? I checked Home Depo and Ace for something that would work but came up empty handed.
