  3. so you bought an entire car? yeah- ive thought of that... they are hard to find too at least up here in mn.
  4. so is it that you would suggest turbocharging the motor i have then? "water flow around the cylinders" also to this ive seen this before but no real in depth explanation. is it an open deck vs closed then or what? closed decks are stronger but also don't have the extra area to cool the motor but that is solved with other basic things ie larger radiator and better fans and the whatnot. - in fact most guys who have an open deck in other motors use a block guard so that when they DO make lots of power it doesn't blow up . the block guard then replaces the area where it was not filled with metal more or less.
  5. so... why swap in a l28et? i can lower my compression with a bigger gasket right? cant i turbo the stock l28e i have in my 78 by using the manifold off the 81 up turbo zx motor? and modify the injection system and whatnot? and can i not do this to harness on the 78 i have as well? (so i can run nistune) http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=91250 or is the stock l28e (bottom end) just not up to the task of 300-400 hp? (at motor) i mean i can change out the pistons and rods for say forged ones.... how many other people went this rout. because of all the searching iv done i pretty much see people swap the motor... i, actually having a hard time finding the motor for a decent price. i mean if im going to spend that kind of money on a motor i may as well go buy an rb series and swap it in with the McKinney kit. whats your guys opinion on this? i mean 400hp really is not alot of power to me... im used ive seen 1.6 lt Honda motors (b16a2) go that far and reliably. so i just dont see why not stay with the l28 i have... any info would be awesome.

  8. just a LITTLE ITTYBITTY rant... OK last night my gf who knows almost nothing about computers goes on plays around and then sees an auto update badge in the corner of the computer. so what does she do she clicks it ARG!.... now the computer does is not allowed to access the internet. well i come home last night and see the comp screen is black accept the mouse i roll my eyes and say "hey whats with the comp?" she tells me what happened and im like great. so i restart the computer and for the next 4 hours attempt to find a trace all the little things the virus/malware/etc let in. and then finally i was allowed to go into my firewall and make it so the nt kernal & system could access the network and allow me to go on the Internets. you see there is no point in have a firewall and all the other goodies if you tell the virus sure i will allow you to access my network.....arg. oh btw it was a windows network update- right. i have it auto blocked and there should have been no reason for an update seeing that i make my own crap. sometimes... i just hate computers. so fare warning to the rest of you don't click the update tag in the corner of your comp.... i just don't get these people who have WAY to much time on there hands to make crap just to annoy people. and because i matter to me- in particular .... ME.

  11. so is someone going to make a copy of the old dash out of carbon fiber and sell them or what? if it looks exactly like the original dashes but just in carbon fiber than i am interested.

So as it states in the title. im starting to restore the 280z i have at least the body work, and i have been finding so carbon parts metal parts and fiberglass parts. im trying to find the weight saving advantages here. has anyone switch to the fiberglass hood? how much lighter than the metal is it? has anyone switch to the carbon-fiber hood? how much lighter than the metal or the fiberglass is it? -------- does anyone make fiberglass front fenders at all? or carbon fiber? or doors? i did find a rear hatch on race on made of carbon-fiber. just for some reference check out raceonusa.com for some carbon parts. im NOT stripping the car though i would like to get the body as light as possible. for the lack of making carbon parts myself i would like to find as many available pre-made parts. any help would be awsome.

  16. nistune. ive seen it now and like it quite a bit. any better suggestions? im not a fan of mega squirt for one. and i have not gotten a chance to tear into the stock ecu to see if its eprom if it is i may be able to just use the ostrich.
  17. updates on the z33 trans? seeing that the z32 turbo trans is the same as the z32 na trans.... what would be the point in the turbo trans? why did they make one different? is there anything different? also is the z33 trans any stronger than the z32 or is it just the extra gear (6 speed vs 5 speed) that is the difference here? i really do hope you are still making these kits. i am planning on a l28et stroked to a 3.1 with the diesel crank to help push more air through a gt35r garret turbo to a fairly large fmic. vega-
  18. funny i was just about to say something similar in that it was a factory option. to be honest i am goign to try and track down the original owner hopefully i can get a full history on the car. arg- last night i gave a friend a ride int he Z and he got out at the weighing station and got back in and now the passenger door does not stay shut i have not got a chance to fiddle with it yet- hopefully i dont have to buy anything. any sugestions?
  19. not a craigs list car no.... and it has holes for the mirrors and it also has a place where the gasket was.
  20. i am plannign on doing a l28et swap what tran do the 280zx turbo guys use when they are getting the 400whp or so for a transmission. i assume the r200 will hold to that kind of power seeing v8s are put against them as long as a rebuild is done.

  23. im going to build the l28et. im going to put ALOT of money into the head full port pollish over size valves new cam etc. run a gt35r turbo http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT35/GT3582R_714568_3.htm and im going to have it fully balanced. im also going to atempt the z31 ecu swap and tune it with nistune on a dyno (street first of course). so this IS going to be making a decent amount of power hopefully around 400 whp thats the goal at least. oh lol i took a picture up at maxi's (a steel place up in mn if you did nto know) and with me in the car full interior everything stock and a shat ton of tools and some extra close including a very heavy leather jacket the car weighed in at 2860lbs i will weigh it soon with me out and nothing else in the car- it was late at night and i did nto want to get pulled over by a copperroo. oh btw what did you mean by "2004?" ?
