  1. i did a search and the only thing that even comes close to matching to that is this one link and it was a failure. so what are the zx turbo guys using eh? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=100255&highlight=z32+300zx+trans+swap the other links were guys doing v8 swaps in there z32 or using a z32tt trans to an rb series motor.
  2. I have a 78' 280z 5 speed l28e car. Ive been looking into swapping in the l28et engine from the zx i just have a few quick qs. 1. is there a better block year of the et motor? 80? 81? 82? 83? 2. the more important thing i can i use the trans i already have in the car? is goign to be strong enough to hold to the kind of power? i do plan on build up the l28et to a 3.1 stroker a large fmic and probably a gt35r turbo. also if it cant hold to the power and can still hook up to the l28et can it be buitl to hold to the power? any place i should be looking at for better stronger parts for the motor? apparently i dont haev a bw its a nissan trans btw- all stock all orginal car.... for now
  3. some shaty phone pictures of the z cant find my good camera when i do i will take better pictures http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/5.jpg http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/4.jpg http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/3.jpg http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/2.jpg http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/1.jpg ----------- my 1981 honda cb 650 custom going to be a bobber by next summer http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/6.jpg ------------ paint im going to use on both the bike and the Z car vista blue- http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad226/faytmorgan/vistablue1.jpg
  4. needs an update on the pictures as well as a sticky (btw i know this is an old thread)
  5. sold the 240sx finally- ug that car was becoming a pain in my side long long story. wither way a few months ago a guy who lives next to my best frind had a 1978 280z siting out frotn of his house - i wanted it then- he WAS going to sell it to me then but then the next day- i came with cash and his son wanted it.- sigh... well on the 26th this last month he posted it on craigs list and i thought it coudldnt be the same guy.- It was, turns out his son was scared of driving it in the winter (as he should be no one should drive that car int he winter its too classic for that...*rolls eyes*). So my luck this week end i talked to him and he said he'd sell it so i sold my project 240 mess and got the 280z. as soon as i get pictures i will post them up. my question is after doing lots and lots of googling and z site searching i cant find the correct 0-60 time for the car at all. its a 1978 with the rare 5 speed option (FS5W71A- which im not sure if thats a borg warner case or what it is- if you know i'd love to know that as well) so that means it actually has the 170 hp l28e the onyl 0-60 time i can find is for the MUCH lesser hp 145 hp version which was for the 4 speed or 3 speed cars only. 1. so whats the 0-60 of the 170 hp 5 speed car NOT the 4 speed/3spd 145 hp car? 2. who actually produced the FS5W71A 5 speed that was in the car from 77-78? borg warner? tremec? munci? etc? ----------- oh btw the 78' it has 77k orginal miles! orginal paint interior everything! its just missing the passenger mirrior which is an easy fix.
  6. what about motor mounts and trans mounts? what are you doing there?
  7. dude awsome! what are you doing for mounts? got pictures? what are you doing about the starter location? i thought there was a problem with the starter fiting or something gehy like that to fit in the s chassis. needs more pics! btw have you considered using the 30et heads with the vg33er block? twin charge purhaps?
  8. found it... http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?t=55042 here is his reasons why: "So you ask why change the rear subframe? Well - if you do what I did or similar but with a z32 or skyline subframe (all of these are similar designs with similar geometry and interchangeable parts) these are the benefits: Better rear brakes – similar rotor size, but dual piston aluminum calipers and drum ebrake although I don’t know exactly why that it’s better VLSD – yes I know that vlsd is not that great, but it’s better than open and is upgradable with numerous bolt in aftermarket diffs. Better geometry – way more anti-squat which is good for road racing and handling. While not the best for drag racing, I’ve found that with my laggy turbo, I get better launches due to less bogging. Upgradability – almost every arm in this setup has an adjustable aftermarket replacement, not to mention endless coilover and big brake options. Solid bushings – This is not neccesary, but if you do this, you can think of the whole subframe as a meaty re-inforcement to the ass end of your car since it is now bolted solidly to your unibody. This made my car feel like a totally different car. Easily the best handling mod I’ve done." thats kind of week btw that the 300zx cant get under th 3k mark- thats about what a 3rd gen camaro sits at....
  9. I apologize for some reason I am not allowed to post a new thread in the general tech section and even to post in this section I had to reread the rules? I don’t know- I don’t post here much so... meh Anyhow- I am debating something with my setup. 1. Has anyone stripped an 87 up z31 turbo 5speed? If so what was the weight? I am trying to find out how much I can get a z31 stripped down to within reason. 2. Why is it that people are swapping out the rear sub frame for an s14 sub frame? Aren’t the q45 diffs stronger? And also have an r200v? Plus stronger axles.... I don’t get it. Is it the suspension? Is it sooo limited on the z31? -------- Right now I have a 1990 s13 coupe 5 speed base model. I finished the ka24de swap. I'm board. I want to know if I should continue with the s13 or sell it and get a z31 more or less. The type of racing I do is m2 class racing in rally cross. The car needs to be "streetable" so none of the Hoosier I have one line a tread tires. I get a deal on the re11 tires so that’s what I’m going to use (a set for 200 not 600!) I was planning on ripping out the ka24de for a sbc 383 stroked vortec motor carbed. Using the q45diff and axles a highly modded we t5 trans and a bunch of other things. Now I’m curious if the z can get as low a weight as the s13 with the v8. If so- then I may just go z31 instead. -------------- S13 project info--------- I’m about 140 pounds The car stock is 2606 pounds (wet weight) The ka24de is 371 pounds (http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/299879) The ka24de trans is 169 pounds (can’t find the link hmm... she sure is heavy though) ----------- The sbc with alum intake/heads is about 525 pounds The WC t5 trans weighs about 90 pounds (aluminum case ) So... The sbc+trans = 615 lbs The ka+trans = about 540 lbs A difference of only 75 pounds oooo- big deal and the trans is pretty much in the center of the car. now I have read allot on what people have done to lighten up their s13 the lightest vie seen was 2179 lbs. cant find the link for that guy but he had an excel sheet for it I have it on my desk top. So add about 100-200 lbs for a cage that’s 2379 lbs Add 75 pounds for the v8 swap that’s 2454 lbs And lastly me (140 lbs) that 2594 lbs So let’s just say 2600 lbs to be safe. So now we are pretty much back to stock weight but with a HUGE hunk of v8 in the front. I haven’t really added the weight of the axles and new diff though... so this is a guestimate. -------------- So can I get the z31 down to 2600 pounds or there about?
  10. i a have a 1990 240sx i am working on getting a 327 in and one of the bigget problems in this is that the stock r200 is a 4.08 gearing.. i am very interested inwhat you guys are doign to get the 8.8 to work with the irs. not that the r200 is week of course - its that i cant find any gearign options nismo and no one else really offers anything that is going to be that much of a difference. the 8.8 sounds great but what are all doing about the axle shafts and the hubs etc. etc .etc.
  11. Has anyone used a gm ecu? Is it stock electronic fuel injection? Is it running some kind of computer stock? If so, is it running a cam position sensor with a toner ring?
  12. i am picking up a 280z with a bad clutch runs great and all 500 bucks great body guy just doenst know what he has. im already looking into building the l28 in it from my understanding the only difference fromt he l28 and the turbo is the pistons head and duh the turbo. my queation is what do you guys use to tune these things? is it mechanciale fuel injection or with some kind of ecm im just really confused on this part everything i read about hte l series engines is all about carburating it which would not be fun because i would have to change the jets every time the temp changes and it would have to be different jets from the front and back for the turbo. not fun. so what engine managment systems are out there for this? links that may be useful? anything else i need to consider? btw if that does not work are there carb kits for the l28 from fuel injection tot carb?
  13. firon check your private messages. i will be doing the same idea in my 240sx but i will be swaping the bellhousing from the 300zx t the my ka24de tranny. (same tranny diff bell housing) those pics you posted are old enough for whatever reason have an x over them- again. could you email them to me? it would be much appriceated. i also could use some info on the measurements for the adaptor plate- cost of making i-t what flywheel did you use? any mods to the flywheel- what clutch did you get to work? did you change any bearings? are there sensors on the tranny that you needed to modify to read the speedo correctly? etc. i have read this entire thread kutos btw i have been looking into swapign a sbc in my 1990 240sx coupe base modle for about a yr and a half done alot of research and jsut recently had the idea of using the 240 tranny instead of a chevy one. (5spd btw) did soem searching and looks like you beat me to the punch.
  14. i have a 90 nissan 240sx coupe i am planning on dropping in a sbc in BUT i am having a hard time with figured out the balance with weights i have searched and searched but i keep getting different answers. 1. how much does a nissan ka24de plus trans weigh? 2. how much does a old school (98 older non ls non lt motor) sbc weigh with a turbo 400 auto trans all iron 3. same as number 2 but with aluminum heads and intake 4. how much does a ls1 weigh with auto trans. i am looking at doing something like the hinson super car ls but i am avoiding all that computer crap so i want to see the diff in weight to see how off the weight balance will be for handling purposes. thanx for any help.
  15. Alright well i AM going to purchase this 200 dollar 81 turbo 280zx. it currently has the 3 spd auto. which is going to be a cheaper route as far as using the JT Zx kit? 1. manual swap with my 327 OR 2. th350 with my 327 i have no personal preference - but me likes cheap. btw if i were to go auto what are you guys doing for tranny lines/ fuel lines. i have been reading up on the zx swap for about oh 2 hours now via searching.
  16. so did you put yours farther back then? and what tranny and rear end did you use? edit--------------------------- reading up on these i think that maybe a SMALL sbc woul work great. like a 305 or 267 or 262 (not the v6 but the v8 out of the nova and monza) why? cause it can wind up more and has the tq of a the v8 i would like to go turbo. what sbc would you recomend for turbo. i don't want a 350 btw. i sold me 327. camle back heads......... but i want to go turbo. or tt. or twincharged with maybe a turbo m90 hybrid (hence the hybrid z ) and are there forged internals made for these smaller sbcs? or are parts harder to come by (nto realy refering to the 305 biut the 267 and the 262
  17. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/PRC01 and are would this kit work with a 4.3 votec v6? ( i mean just the motor mounts- i don't know if hte motor mounts are the same on the 4.3 as the 5.7 i know that the 4.3 is just a v6 5.7 but that doesn't mean the motor moutns are the same)

  23. so how long does the swap take- at least for you? any poblems- or sugestions? how is the rear end holding up? how/where did you get the drive shaft done up? how much did the t5 run you we are thinking auot for his car so which tranny for cheap that will hold up enough and is not going to kill for gas? and what kind of gears are we looking at in the rear end? will we need to swap this out for that 200r? or do we already have that rearend? sorry for the bombardment of questions it is just nice to know someone who has done the swap already. thank you all you all have been a great help. so far as now no other site knows anything about this really. thanx again!
