Here is my modified wiring harness, Its basically the stock 240z harness but I cut out a few things that I dont want and there's a couple of things that I am going to add for security that I'd rather not post on the net. If you spot any issues with it let me know as soon as possible because I start laying wire tonight! I still have the deal so I wont be using megasquirt yet, maybe later. Luckily I still have a lot of the switches so I dont need that stuff, but I do need to source a fuse panel, I want to find one with blade style fuses but I'll gladly go to the junkyard and pull a 260z one if I have to. Anyone know a place with good prices on fuse panels? I guess that's all for now, I'll keep you posted. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/chewievette/Cars/My%20240z/240Z_Wiring_Diagrammodjpg.jpg

Same as it is already, just in powder instead of paint.
-
Think you could redo mine in powdercoat? Like the way I painted it but powder is so much tougher!

Wow, that was ...amazing! Now I want to go driving!
-
Yeah, they talked me into working too. On the upside they gave me a few days off later this week so I can work on my car when the stores are acctually open! Happy Easter Ya'll!

I am trying to see if an offer that I recieved still stands, if so then I'm not going with the megasquirt. I just found out tonight that there is a complete wiring schematic of the 240z at the top of this page!! yeah I know, read the stickies first ...its the newbie in me shining through. I am going to start work on the new harness this week. It will basically be a stock harness with new wires. I am trying to work a couple of deals right now and if all turns out for the best I should have this car running in a couple of weeks!! I am trying to get it roadworthy by June as a small birthday present to myself, wish me luck! The next week will be a huge deciding factor in that.

Wow, I love this site! Look long enough and you find exactly what your looking for, Thanks!

If I wanted to make it my project I would definately keep looking for something with less rust, but since I just need something cheap with a bed that fairly reliable I think this just might work.

Eh, I dont know... I'll go back out there and measure the engine bay to see if I want to attempt it. If the guy doesn't want a couple of arms and legs and it's close I might be willing to try it. I'll keep thinking about it, I'd still like to hear your ideas / comments. Thanks!
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking, but I remember an Audi I looked at in a j/y once that had the radiator off to the side of the engine bay and the engine was basically up against the back of the grill. I think it just might barely fit like that. I'll have to weld in new engine mounts but that's not a huge deal. I'm more worried about the engine bolting to the trans and being able to interface with the existing systems in the truck. I'm going to go back up there sometime next week and do some measuring to see if it would fit and to get an exact price for it. If he wants much over $500, I'll keep looking.

My buddy and I have recently been inspired to get a parts runner / shop truck. The inspiration came when I just barely fit my "new" 240z hood in the back seat of my car! Anyways, I was at the junkyard and I spotted an old Datsun pickup, early 70's, but it has a junk four banger and stick four speed. Would it be worth while for us to pick it up and try to wedge one of my L6's in there? I've got a spare L24 to use and a set of rims and tires to throw on it. The guy said that it drove in but the engine was making some serious kind of racket. It has a lot of rust and it looks about par with most old vehicles up here in Michigan but just for being a parts runner it doesn't matter. I am interested in this truck because the L6 should technically be a bolt in right? If it will fit that is. So, Cheap shop truck or big 'ol can of worms?

I've got a 280zx that doesn't have a title, might as well have some fun before it gets scrapped -

Acctually, I have the TBs for my daily driver which is a 1996 Dodge Intrepid! Like every other car I own, I want it to be faster so mods are plentiful... Unfortunately trying to get custom parts made is a pain since most people think I'm just some punk kid who doesn't know what he's doing, its really starting to annoy me. There were a few different engines used in the intrepid, the 3.3L is OHV, the 3.5L, 3.2L are SOHC, and the 2.7L is DOHC. All are based on the same block but there are different versions of each with interchangable and non interchagable parts, the details get a little fuzzy but any engine that looks like this has the correct TB's...

"Fuel: 104 Pump Octane" Did I miss something? I've Never seen this at any pump before ...at least not one for street use. -
If your looking for a dual TB setup that resembles the Viper without spending the big bucks, check out the first gen dodge intrepids at your local yard. The 3.5L engine that came in them has an almost identical TB setup. I got both of my TBs and the balance shaft for under $50. As a side bonus to that there are 58mm TBs available that can be made to fit with minor mods. 58mm is the stock TB bore on the Viper, in case you didn't know. Sorry for sidetracking.

I've never seen it but then again, I havn't been into Z's too long. I'll be putting one on mine during bodywork this coming winter. JcWhitney sells a couple of different sizes of them, I think the larger one would fit the best.
-
According to the showcars website, C3 corvette flares will fit the rear. I think just about any flares with the correct diameter opening and the curve in at the bottom of the doors can be made to fit.
-
Yeah, that would definately work. Now I just have to get that far...
-
Alrighty, I've got one for you guys. I need to cut out and patch my driver's rocker panel and I'm planning on coating everything inside with por15 but after I weld wont that burn off some of the paint and leave bare metal inside? Should I be as worried about that as I am? Most other places I'll still be able to get to the backside. I just dont want to get a couple of years down the road and have to deal with rust again.
-
Which 60's 427 corvette, your probably thinking of one of these two... 1967: 1969: I have seen the '69 scoop installed before but never the '67. I have been planning to put one on mine for a long time but It might be a while till I get to bodywork.
-
Well I dont want you to steal them! If you ever spot a set for sale or anything Then let me know!

I havn't made any progress on the wiring itself because I've been trying to get the car rollable. As you can see in my sig pic, its getting closer. I have formulated a plan of attack for the wiring though. I plan it wire it up one circuit at a time starting with the lighting. That should take long enough for me to get and build my megasquirt. As I go I'll route all of the wires in the same way so that I can bundle them together and pull it all out when I dismantle the car this winter for more extensive mods. I have also been thinking about running dual wires for everything. For example, instead of running a single positive wire to the lights and grounding the neg to the body, run both positive and negative so I dont have to use the body as a ground. Only major downside is that it uses up twice as much wire.

Wow, thats the only other set of those Shelby wheels I have ever seen on a Datsun, and the only ones outside those were on a triumph spitfire! The other set I speak of are my own, they came with the '79 280zx I bought but they will soon be swapped over to the 240z. I would kill for a set of those center caps though, so if you ever see any, PLEASE let me know! Here's mine:

Where is that airdam from? I want to get one exactly like that! The one I have on the car now has the scoops in it but I want the cleaner look like you have. I'm loving the rest of your car too, it just Works!
