L series dimensions - Stroke, Bore, Chamber cc's, etc
EvilC replied to savageskaterkid's topic in L-Series
Tim, Happen to know what page you referred to? Maybe it is under a new web address? Thanks. -
6 days after my first post. Here is what I started with: After a few hours: then Ok, what did I learn so far. Something as simple as where and how does the oil circulate in the motor! I know it sounds really sad but it is true, lol. Also being able to to see how every part works and the order they come apart starts to make everything make sense. So after cleaning up the mess in Joe's garage, the block/head/oil pan is off to the machine shop. The block will be boiled, bored, tested for stress cracks, honed and new freeze plugs. Oil pan will be boiled also so I can paint it myself. As for the head, I will have to get back to you with more exact details. The intake ports will be opened up along with the exhaust ports. By looking at the exhaust ports, there is not much that can be taken out without doing a custom exhaust mani. Like I said more details are to follow. Next step is going to order ARP stud kit, complete engine gasket kit, new water pump, timing chain kit. bearing kit after machine shop work is done and engine paint. There are lots of misc items that I didn't list but will when purchased. Joe has been very helpful and putting up with my million questions! Dave has been helping out too. Next step is researching and finding a good turbo for the setup I am looking to have.

Hey Pete you are def right! I would not spend the cash just for the extra .2 of a liter but lets say someone hooked me up with a 3.0 block rotating assembly that just needs to be swapped over to a block that is bored correctly. This is the only reason why I am doing the 3.0 This car is not going to be my "fast" car. I guess I really want to get my hand dirty and try to learn the L6 in and out; something I didn't do with the LS1. Thanks for the list and advice. Now that I got the car indoors it is time to get the motor from the shop.

Hi everyone. I think this is only my second post in the L6 section! Yes, I am planning on doing a L30et swap into the "new" 240z I just bought. Take a look at the car and donor: ZXT donor: New Z: I am pretty excited about this swap because I plan on building the motor myself with lots of reading here and input from Rags/Cygnusx1 who I am good friends with and both live close to each. The donor has been stripped and motor will be in the garage by this weekend. Dave (cygnusx1) has been telling me to get the l28et in first and build the 3.0 on the side. Reason being, I plan to do MS also and I HATE WIRING but I am looking foward to learning. I will try and take as much pics as possible and document my progress. Hope my thread can help all newbies like myself and show that anyone can build a motor reading here on HBZ. My dad is mechanic but I always like to try on my own and have it work or break. I know some of you know I have the v8 Z I put together also but I am still a rookie mechanic....words from 1 tuff z! Hope to have the car on the road by Spring but there is no rush at all. This car will have heat, a/c and be a nice street car vs my ls1 Z.

Girl friend...no marriage in sight...I am 24! lol Change of plans....I will be driving both Z's. I am already planning my winter upgrades for the car!

Ok guys, here are some pics as promised! As you can see this guy really loved his car. He checked everything off in the books that he bought for the car and I am still going through all the papers to see what else he had done. Also see the quick write up he did when he was selling the car in 1980...notice price! The last pic is the zxt that Mike and Joe help me load on the trailer. Motor will end up in the new 71, feels good to say that! BSR: BROCK: 1980 4 Sale Ad: zxt donor:

Thanks Mike! Will have it on the road by Spring, Dave you are right, I will enjoy it on the street more than the LS1 because it will have A/C, lol.

LOL no, that is the one I didn't show you for a few days! But yes, thanks to you also from now as I will call you every 5 mins on Skype while I build this motor! =) Seriously though, Dave and I have been searching high and low for the past 2 weeks...looking for a clean car from myself and for him to use for track. I found mine so he needs to find his.....240z with tripples and some suspn work done.

Thanks guys! I am really thinking about throwing the L motor in this one. No real go fast parts on the motor but it does have a hearder and Bob Sharp coil. The car already has a 5 speed in it too! I also have to jack the car up to check if it has LSD. I really need to get the car inside this week because the snow is coming. Joe, turbo motor is almost done coming out the donor....and while I have the trailer....we are loading the 84 Maxima on and taking it to the shop. That was my first car I bought at 18 and now as 94k on it. Blue72, I wish I lived over there! You guys are spoiled with nice/clean cars. Mike, you are right....it came down 2 mins after we were done! I drove home at 20 mph....could not see a thing!

I will do that for you!!! It is pretty cool looking through all the BSR stuff knowing I wasn't even born yet! I am going to have him sign them at the next CTZCC meeting. Also, I have the price listing for all the products sold....retail and list. Those Nissan Comp Poster we all want today only cost $2.00 back then!!!!!!!! I paid $2500 for the car......not 2 bad

I saw this car in person! I was driving in the Bronx and saw it parked on the sidewalk as you can see in some of the pics. I quickly looked it over and it def wasn't worth $2500 he was asking. This is a $500 parts car for whoever may be thinking about buying it. It does need rust work....and as stated be sure title/vin on dash/firewall/door jam matches! Clive

Close to the drivers side mount? If so, I had the same feeling you had! I was amazed it was so damn close...I thought I was the only one. Clive

I was thinking to put my LS1 swap into it....but I might put the L30ET I plan on building into it. I guess I can have this one look really nice with A/C while I track and improve the LS1 Z. I have all winter now to figure out what to do with it. Thanks for the comments guys, I finally found a decent deal for myself...lmao! Clive

Back From The Dyno....11/15/08
EvilC replied to 240zprace's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Very nice numbers! Do you have a graph or vid for us? Any future plans for the car? Clive -
From what I remember last time I was going over my car before the track, I notice how close the alt was to the drivers side mount. I plan to grind it down a bit to get more clearance. Is there anyway for you to get us some pics of what you are talking about? Clive

.....a Z that is!! Yes, I finally bought a Z that is not going to be a parts car! Quick story of the car: I bought the car in Brockton, Mass. from the friend of the second owner. The second owner bought the car in late 75 and then went to town on the car!! I have sheets on top of sheets from Bob Sharp racing products; bought and installed at Bob Sharps shop in CT. I believe the flares and front spook to be orginal BRE products. I have two booklets where the owner checked off all the parts he bought for the car. Konis, Mullholland springs, front/rear swap bars, poly bushings, BRE spook and flares and the list goes on. He had the car painted in '76 and then had it for sale in 1980 just due to lack of time. Sale price then was $7600!!! He didn't get it so it sat in the garage until 2001 when he passed away. The person I bought the car from was really good friends with him and took the car to some day get it back on the road. So it sat for another 7 years until it was finally listed for sale.....28 years sitting in a garage! The thick dust in the engine bay and smell of 28 year old gas really tells you a story. Seats are a little worn, dash is not cracked (pulled from another car), bumpers are striaght, floors are SOLID, FG front fenders.... PICS: Front Right Side So I have to thank Mike & Joe (BUZZ & Rags) for helping me unload the car once I got home and load my 82 zxt parts car on the trailer in the rain/dark! That parts car is now about 80% stripped! Also have to thank David (1 TUFF Z), my financial planner, for giving me the ok to buy it and talking me out of flipping it via Ebay.
