That is your problem! I am no wiring expert so please excuse my "lame" way of trying to explain how to hook up the pink wire. I spliced the pink wire to the constant 12v source coming out of the fuse block on my 73 240z. Should be the white wire with single red stripe down the middle.....someone help me explain this correctly!
Joe is right. I had this problem for about three days! Be sure to make sure you are getting a constant 12v source to the PCM during crank cycle. If you have a light hooked up to your PCM (near the port to flash the pcm) it should stay on while you are turning the key. Seeing that you are using the factory harness, I am not sure what color the wire is that you need to check. Vihn will be someone who can help you since he used the factory harness twice already...others also just can't name any off the top of my head.
I was really thinking....for 5k-6k if that much...I could buy this and sell my other Z's and parts and start from fresh! lol
If only all dreams could come true.
Yup the tranny is around 15k! Bidding starts in 2 hours...will try and find out from work what the car went for. Like Dave said, this car was hit very hard! If this auction was out west, I think it would bring very good money but it being upstate NY....we will have to see. I am thinking no more than 8k for the car. My guess is as good as any.....from what I remember, it isn't like you can just swap the drive train into anything...right?
Most of the cars are stripped of plates and personal belongings. Motor did seem to take some of the impact, plus view the pic of the center console...or what was the center console.
While looking at tomorrows listing for the salvage yard, I came across this!
Current bids for the car is only $900, I guess there really isn't much you can do with the motor and trans. I will try and let you guys know what this car goes for tomorrow...anyone want to guess? I might place a bid for 2K...LOL
NEVER KNOW
What is your peak temp you get to when you see it rising? I have the same "looped" setup on my Z but I am running a big rad and the GM dual E fans. I still have the 180 tstat in my car. Driving around and short speed burst I am around 190 but on track (Watkins Glen or Daytona yr ago) my temp got up to 205-210 exactly where you want to be. Like David said, GM designed the LSx's to run warmer than our L6....the exact reason I did not do the 160 tstat. Also...as I will be doing this season....get rid of that Dextron coolant....it is junk!
Vin is only in FOUR places:
1. DASH
2. DOOR JAM
3. FIREWALL
4. TITLE
* The data plate on the inner pasn fender will tell you the engine #.
In this case, title being a 240z and you getting a 280z I would want the money back and have him come and get the car. If it was a 240z just with the wrong vin and it came back clean then I would keep it. You can always not have the door jam plate on and make a new dash plate. I know some of you are thinking I am crazy but if everyone went out and looked to make sure all 4 numbers matched...I bet maybe 3 may come back finding out this isn't the case.
There are plenty of people you can trust and this guy sounds like he knew the title and vin was no good. Hope you get the money back, sure you will.
