Joe, I did get the tank done at the same place! =) Joe was over today and heard first hand the car stumble on low gas. First line of busn is to move the pump lower, this will have to wait a few weeks..I got two Z cars to work on before it! I know I know...I am a Z addict now.

Today was a good day, was able to get the red Z ready for the motor to be pulled and then got the new 70 out of the way and in a position where I can pull the motor this weekend!

Thanks guys, I can't wait to get this one stripped to get the L30ET motor in this one!! I have been lucky to come across some decent deals this past year. I can't believe the shape this car is in....Joe was over today (RAGS) and saw it in person....really has been sitting since 1976, 44k miles!

Got this at work last week: Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl, "Will you marry me?" The girl said, "NO!" And the guy lived happily ever after, owned and flew airplanes, rode motorcycles, went fishing and hunting, did NOT have to sneak away and play GOLF to drink beer and Scotch but chose Gentlemen's Clubs instead, and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted. THE END

Higher =( This is one of my concerns. I should move it lower and see if that helps.

You are right.....some of us being more alert drivers can think A LOT faster than the normal driver. I NEVER use the horn of any of my cars....I react to the situation way before my mind ever thinks about hitting the horn. Kinda of funny when I think of how many people hit the horn, lock the brakes and then crash. I tell people around me, the half second it took you to think of blowing the horn because you know something is about to go bad....try to take that half a second to avoid the crash. The person in the vid just had slow reaction time and prop didn't think all the options through...so yes avoidable if you would run over someones grass but not if you trying to stay on the road. Like you said it has to be someones decision....you can run over my grass anytime

Jon tell me about it. I am going to research this one pretty hard before I cough up the $700 or so to do the tank mod. I am waiting to see if more LSX guys can post their fuel system setup so I can pick through them all and try and figure out why David and I had the same porblem....same setup. While others will almost the same setup does not have that problem. Also another thought of mine is, where do most of you guys have your walbro pump mounted? I am wondering if distance and height from the feed can cause and issue. Also should the filter be before or after the pump, I don't think it should matter. You would want the filter before the pump so the pump doesn't go bad. Also the walbro pumps are pushers and not pullers of fuel correct? Just throwing some more ideas out there.

69-72 vs 73 Connecting rods When using the L28D crank, most people including myself thought you had to find 73 240z rods because they have the 9mm bolts vs the 69-72 240z rods are 8mm. If you are going to use STOCK bolts then you will want to use the 73 rods because of the 1mm difference of the bolt because it is "stronger" than the 72 and down bolts but they will work also if you have them. At the same time if you are building a 3.0 or 3.1 then using ARP bolts should be bought. These bolts are harden and are 9mm. If you have the 72 and down connecting rods, your machine shop can open the bolt holes to fit the ARP bolts. The bolt heads will need to be eyebrowed to make clearance for the bolt head to cylinder wall clearance. This is because the duration of the L28D crank is larger than the L28 crank therefor the clearance is smaller. If any of the wording is incorrect, please let me know and I will edit it guys. I know some of you have way more engine assembly experience than I will ever have, so your input would be great!

Joe, The way you asked was clearer than how I said it...I was type/ranting lol and yes it does get cold in there with no heat and having to door open so the gas fumes doesn't get into my parents room! =) Janaka, I am running braided lines feed and return, forgot what size though. Maybe that is something else I can look at where in Joe's case....he is using a line slightly larger than stock. I remember on Vihn's friend Cobra LS1 Z, I believe he used the stock lines until he got to the engine bay. So that leaves us two issues: Fuel line size a factor? FPR....before vs after fuel rail?

Steer to where? It is easy for to say it was avoidable when we look at it from our view. From the driver who hit the person, imagine driving down the road and within 10 car lengths some appears out of no where...you can't steer left (on coming traffic) and there isn't enough room between the car n curb. Remember we are watching the vid knowing someone is going to make the u turn...the other driver didn't. 100% fault of the person making the u turn.

The car is looking great! Like Pete said you may just need a resonator and be good to go. I like the hood pins that you did and may do the same depending on what setup I go with. Your attention to detail is amazing and I hope to learn that art of patience on the next two Z builds...lol Now where is the vid? =P

Well after driving my Z for year and half (7500 miles)......I am swapping the drivetrain and all to another, cleaner Z. My first Z has been a great learning experience and I am glad many of you talked me out of it when I had it up for sale back then. Also of course 1 tuff z (David) helped me out big time while I built the car at his house and Vihn did the wiring for me when I got back to NYC. Here is a pic of the original EVIL Z and a glance of the "new" EVIL Z. EVIL Z: "new" Z: While doing this exchange I plan to buy new GM motor mounts, do the UD pulley, FAST 90/90 intake and TB, recoat the LS1 headers, clean and paint suspension parts and get everything working....like HEAT! =) My biggest concern/question right now is in regards to the fuel system. I know lots of us drives our cars hard and I need some input about low fuel/fuel starvation. I know if let the Z tank get below quarter tank, I get fuel starvation under hard braking and cornering. As some of you know, sometimes it may cause the car to die right where it is. My concern and question is.....could this be because I am using the fuel rail as a dead end vs using the pressure regulator as a dead end. Also do aftermarket fuel rails help in anyway of helping with "flow" of the fuel. I am thinking I am getting air into the system and by doing that it gets trapped in the rail. My set up right now is.....sumped/baffled 240 tank, right to a filter then a walbro pump......then to the FPR in the engine bay and then to the rail. Worse case is I just do the ATL drop in fuel cell in the tank and call it a day. Just would like to input first because I know Rags (Joe) bought Dales 280 LS1 car and it does not have the same problem I do...no matter how low you run it on fuel. Major difference in the fuel systems are, aftermarket rail and FPR after the rail. Anyway, thanks in advance and reading through my long post.... =) Any other suggestions anyone can think of let me know, any while you are at it things. This would be my first time pulling the motor back out after getting it in.

Well think about it guys, right before the car made the u turn another car had just passed it. Who is to say, that the car traveling towards the car making the u turn could not aviod it due to...1 - car that passed car making u turn is right next to them so they can not swing away or 2 - driver rather hit car maing the u turn instead of trying to avoid the crash and hitting someone else head on. If you watch with your eyes closed, you can hear the horn and then the person was right on the brakes....even from 35 mph I think the distance was to small to STOP. Remember it isn't one of our Z's with great brakes....lol

Pictures of my FAST 90/90 install...
EvilC replied to janaka's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I plan to do the same thing this Spring. Yours looks great! When you started the car, was it searching for an idle? Notice any small seal leaks? Also have you read that the TB tend to stick open? Not trying to down what you did at all because I plan to do the same swap, it is just when I read other postings....people tend to hate or love the 90/90 intake and TB. -
Of course it had to be someone from NY....lol

My first car was given to me by my godmother, a 1989 Toyota Corolla 4 door - 5 speed. That car lasted about 12 days before I put it into a tree (i was 17). So my real first car that I bought was a few months later after my father finally gave in to let me drive again was a 1984 Datsun Nissan Maxima with 51k miles. Still own that car 6 years later and it still hasn't broken 100k! lol I bought the car for $2500 after watching my dad pay $265 for it...it was a tough lesson to swallow.

Congrats, it is a long road but stick with it! Don't let woman and beer throw you off track

10 days? Geez. I will be putting the Bad Dog rails on my other Z that is getting the V8! I should do sub frame connectors also but we shall see. I think you will be fine will all the cross memebers in with all the weight on the wheels. I don't think that car is going anywhere..... kinda like how I pulled this turbo motor a while back: As long as you make sure YOU are safe!

And the finder! lmao!

I think next yr I am going to start a thread....where I can visit a HBZ member in every state...wonder how many states I can get through.
