  1. Ultimately what those of us who have decades of experience tuning the S30 suspension are trying to tell you is: What works on other, more modern cars, does not work on the S30! An S30 can be a great drift car because their balance is almost perfect and they can be driven tail out very easily. I know, I've done it many times, sometimes at speeds over 100 mph. Again, when tuning a suspension for a particular car for a particular type of motorsports, don't compare anything with cars that have different suspension designs.
  2. My best advice - take the time and go inspect and drive the car before spending the money. If you can't do that, I suggest you pass on the deal.
  3. The Koni 8610-1149s can got to about 375 lb. in. and I think there's a Bilstein shock that is similar. I have to ask a more fundamental question though: Why are you so focused on a specific spring rate number? Although I'm not a drifting suspensions setup expert I do autocross and road race with Taka Ano and he sets up his drift cars very similar to his road race setups.
  4. BTW... 3,100 rpms is not screaming for the Nissan 6 cylinder.
  5. Well then... I'm wrong.
  6. If you're referring to an S30, you're wrong. There isn't a HybridZ (V8, V6, Turbo, SR, CA, etc.) anywhere on the west coast that's beat the L6 powered Rust Old Datsun's lap times at Thunderhill, Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, LVMS, Spring Mountain, or Phoenix. http://www.nsxfiles.com/otc_2004_day5.htm
  7. Or another: Conservative Why fish when we can drain the lake? Liberal Fish are people too!
  8. The loads from the shock are about all the monoball can take and you can use a "C" clip to hold the monoball in place from below. The upper spring perch should have a bearing between it and the top plate. A thrust needle bearing like this works well: http://www.timken.com/industries/torrington/products/needle/thrust.asp And run a Teflon monoball so you never have to worry about lube. Also, make sure the monoball is a secure fit (in all three directions) or it can get pounded pretty bad. EDIT: Deleted an ad...
  9. http://www.astbearings.com/AST.php Mike, What are you going to do about the rotation needs of the front struts?
  10. As with anything, it always depends on the viewer's definition of "morality." [stereotyping] Conservatives tend to believe that if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you've fed him for life. Liberals tend to believe that you should take fish away from the fisherman to feed those that won't fish. [/stereotyping]
  11. C'mon guys! Its satire. Lighten up, the election's over.
  12. I've had excellent service from Earthlink for 5 years so I'm hoping this is a one time thing. I asked them how the zone file got screwed up, but they couldn't answer. I asked who I should talk to to get the answer, and they said their probably isn't an answer. Having worked in IT and software development for years, I know they are probably right (unless I find the moron who's updating stuff with Notepad or VI) , but now I'm on the customer end so its time to bust some balls!
  13. I wouldn't do this. Unless the edge of the wheel center is designed to take a fastened load I would be worried that it would fail. Each hole that you drill reduces the edge strength some amount and creates a great stress riser.
  14. Earthlink corrupted my "zone" file (whatever the hell that is). My e-mail and web site has been down since Friday and won't be back up for another 24 to 72 hours. They were kind enough to give me a $4.65 credit for my troubles - bastards! - John
  15. This is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Pretty much everyone in the US get's skewered: http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2004/11/blue_state_blue.html
  16. The VG and VQ swaps have been done by a few folks here. Do some searching: http://hybridz.org/phpbb2/search.php Every one of you questions has been answerd repeatedly on this board. Spend a few days searching.
  17. Tons and tons of informaiton on this site covering what you want to do. Start here: http://hybridz.org/phpbb2/search.php
  18. I lost $20 on the verdict - I was betting on a hung jury. When they threw that one wacky lady off the jury for doing her own research I knew I'd lost the bet.
  19. Always look at how the car magazines stack the comparison. There's a reason C&D chose those two cars (and its not to make a fair comparison).
  20. BTW... seems that the basis of Hillarycare and John Kerry's health plan has gone bankrupt:

  22. FYI... I'm an ex-Teamster (local 952) and an ex-UAW (local 384). Unions have their place if administered and run in the interest of their members. Unfortunately, during the 1970s and 1980s both of the unions I belonged to above were extremely corrupt (on the national and local levels - I've got stories of personal intimidation from Teamster and UAW business agents) and stole pension and benefit funds from their members. The socialist ideals of a union are appealing, but the actual implementations are crimminal.
  23. Any man who is not a socialist at age 20 has no heart. Any man who is still a socialist at age 40 has no head. - Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929) Just a bit of sage advice for you young ones...
  24. Stock weight distribution for a 240Z is 51 or 52F and 49 or 48R depending on the year and the options. I've heard a lot of numbers thrown around regarding engine weights but a modifed normally aspirated L6 is not that much heavier then a turbo SR20 when you add in the weight of the turbo, intercooler, plumbing, etc. I know that my L6, with all the work that was done to it by Sunbelt, weighed in at 505 lbs. (certified) while in a box and bolted to a pallet with the following stuff also in the box: Intake manifold Header and Y pipe Computer Engine wiring harness Alternator Clutch Flex plate Starter Coil packs Plug wires Engine mounts Cold air intake Air filter Comparing stock for stock and you do see a bigger difference in engine weights between a L6 and an SR20DET. But how many people bolt in a stock SR20DET and how many people are driving around with stock L6s?
