  1. Having access to the corner weights on a 260Z SR20 conversion the numbers were: 48F and 52R with an overall weight of 2165 lbs. That's a car with no interior, aluminum dash, R180 diff, fiberglass hood, Autopower roll bar, rear mounted battery, and custom mounts so the engine was further back and lower then most SR conversions. The weight distribution numbers and total weight were exactly the same as my L6 powered 240Z. Why? Well, my L6 was moved back 6" and down 4" in the chassis and I was running a few carbon fiber panels. Chassis setup was not much different then in a normal 240Z. The weight distribution difference from stock 52/48 is not great enough to require wholesale changes to the suspension. Remember, 911 and 993 Porsches run a 38 to 40 F and 62 to 60 R weight distribution.
  2. Here's a simple roll bar I built in a customer's car. Its a little farther away from the roof, sides, etc. then I would normally do because the customer wants to reinstall the complete interior without breaking any of the plastic panels. http://www.betamotorsports.com/services/cageandbars.html
  3. Uuuhhh, no. As someone who's repeatedly driven close to 150mph is a 1970 240Z I can assert that the front was not even close to coming up off the ground. You would need about 1,000 lbs of lift for that to occur and you would run out of horsepower long before you would be able to generate those lift numbers. Depends on the surface. Its possible on salt and on dirt. Impossible on asphalt or concrete. I agree. Well, no. The turns exist so that the cars come back to the start and also to keep the cars within sight of the paying spectators. They also add a great deal of excitement to the racing.
  4. I didn't know that. But now I do know of one guy cheating in ITS locally...
  5. Keep this in mind when positioning the main hoop, per the SCCA GCR, the top of the main hoop needs to be no more then 6" behind the driver's head (fore aft location). FYI... this is from memory. Even if you don't race with SCCA their rules are pretty much the standard for any type of road racing in the US.
  6. No stock 16" wheels came on the 240/260/280Z or the 280ZX. I think a 14" x 6" was the tallest and widest stock wheel for the same series of cars listed above.
  7. 294 whp in the Rusty Old Datsun without any problems. With a Torsen, Gleason, or Quaife you will put a lot of heat into the gear oil so change it often and run a catch can. If you can run a cooler, all the better.
  8. But, hopefully, its gets a few people to think. Oil is it until those alternative sources of energy power our local hospitals, schools, churchs, cars, home heating, and generate electricity. Dreams and good intentions don't feed, cloth, warm, or protect us. I'm all for developing alternative energy sources, but until they become commercial realities I think its smart and prudent for us to fight for oil.
  9. Let's not get personal. Calling someone a dimwit, paranoid, etc. really isn't appropriate and the mods on this site have relaxed their zero tolerance policy lately because the members have been behaving themselves. That may change real soon...
  10. I removed the little profanity...
  11. Here's a temper-tantrum from a member of the Liberal Intelligensia: http://slate.msn.com/id/2109218/
  12. Tony! Tony! Damn it! Where is he when you need him?
  13. Blood for oil? OK by me:

Then you hate me... My mom had to pay to get two head gaskets replaced on her T-Bird, my uncle's SC Bird was bought back under California's Lemon Law, and two friend who owned 3.8L Windstars/Aerostars had to pay to replace head gaskets. Both sued Ford after Ford issued a TSB extending the warranty on head gaskets and Ford refused to reimburse. They won. The 3.8L V6 was not one of Ford's better ideas.
  15. The latest numbers, off the top of my head, is about 16,000 firearm related murders in 2003 which is about 5.4 for every 100,000 people (295,000,000 US population). Using your 85 figure and an Australian population of about 20,250,000 I calculate a firearm related murder rate of .42 for every 100,000 people. In general the US is a more violent country then Australia and it has always been that way. Lots fo reasons for it beyond the weapons used. FYI... To put the US numbers in perspective - the US CDC calculates on average that 62,000 people in the US die each year from the flu, 32,000 each year from blood poisoning, and 19,000 from illegal drug overdoses. I'm curious... why you feel that the firearm murder rate in the US is important in this discussion?

Its an uninspired, heavy, unreliable, boat anchor of an engine. But, here at HybridZ we don't want to discourage your efforts... Now, the Yamaha head SHO 3L engine was a good engine from the same basic family and I think here's a couple guys on the site doing the swap. Also, the SVT V6 would be another good choice. FYI... my uncle also had a SC T-bird and he thought it was the baddest thing on the road, until I beat him in my Contour SVT.
  17. But that same has been true for generations, which is my point about the link you posted. These exact arguments were brought up and argued even more forefully when John F. Kennedy (Catholic) was running for President. There was a lot of fear that the Pope would actually be running the country. Its nothing new and every time its proven to be wrong.
  18. So, in your first post on this board you decide to insult folks who believe in God?
  19. I read that stuff years ago. Nothing new. Same old "conspiracy theory" BS just updated to reflect our current leadership. I'm waiting for the Nostradamous links next...

  21. IMHO, this paragraph from Cooper's article is why the Democrats lost: "But once so many Democrats had worked themselves into a frenzy with the mantra of stolen elections and Supreme Court electoral coups, the die was cast. If Bush was, in fact, the most dangerous, evil and demented President ever as Democrats tirelessly reminded themselves (and apparently only themselves), then Anybody But Bush would do just fine and … well… the rest is now history." I've voted Democrat many times before (I'm a registered independent) but I was disgusted with the Democratic characterizations (way before the campaign started) of Bush and of similar characterizations of people who supported Bush. The fact that the temper tantrums and tirades of an extremeist such as Michael Moore got such a public and positive response from the Democratic party just turned me off compeletly. I don't want to be associated with a bunch of whiners. I had similar feelings about the characterizations of Clinton and would probably have voted Democrat in 2000 except Al Gore was nominated. I'm not happy with some of the things Bush has done during his term, but he was the only "candidate" running. The other choice was not a candidate, but an emotion: "Anybody But Bush."
  22. My car as a reference: NA 3L - 320hp at the crank, 294 at the rear wheels. Car had a 6" front ride height and 6 1/4" rear ride height measured at the rockers. 275/45-16 tires, Xenon front air dam, custom aluminum rear spoiler, headlight covers, side windows open, two rear view mirros. Top speed reached at Willow Springs Raceway was 142 mph (7,400 rpm in the .87 overdrive 5th with a 4.38 rear gear). Could have pulled to the 7,500 rpm redline (145 mph) but turn 1 got in the way. Would that car top 150 mph? Most likely on pavement with a 4.11 rear gear. Would that car top 155? It theoretically could have just touched 155 with the 4.11 gearing (7,500 rpm) but the torque curve drops off after 7,200 so probably would have been stuck at something like 151. It would really need a good tail wind to hit the 155 mark With a 3.90 rear gear there's no way it could top 150 let alone get to 155. So, I would say that the Rusty Old Datsun could top 150 on pavement but would probably not go past 151 with the gearing that's available for the R180 or the R200.
  23. This may solve the problem... I just got off the phone with Ray at Tokico and he said that the internal valving of the Illumina 240Z front and 280ZX front shock inserts are identical. They carry different parts numbers for inventory accounting reasons only. Internally, the units provide the same level of compression and rebound damping at each setting.
  24. Well, I don't want to turn this thread into a gun control discussion, but you need to check some of the research produced in your own country: http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/facts/2002/facts_and_figures_2002.pdf
