  1. I started a 280z build in 2004 but I picked up the car a lot sooner than that. In 2002, in need of car, I bought a '78 280z off of a buddy that came from Vermont (yeah...you probably see where this is going, huh?). The car got under my skin and I suspect I'm in similar company. After screwing up the engine racing two blondes in a red 73ish corvette I decided a rework was in order. But life had other plans with a deployment to Afghanistan. The car was vandalized while I was deployed...mostly body dings and broken windows. Not deterred by such a thing I decided on return for a full frame-off restoration. The rotisserie and all of the other doodads to make it work were purchased. After stripping the car and getting it up on the rotisserie I began the painful task of stripping the underbody which led to the unfortunate discovery of systemic rust...too much for my appetite. Thanks, Vermont. So, the project got shelved and scrapped. But the Z kept popping up in my thoughts over the years. The brief experience I had with the car finally drove me to pick another one up. So, this happened a week ago: A rust-free 280z from west Texas. A long road-trip later and she's home. More to come!!!
  2. I appreciate the info. Now it is getting a little clearer.
  3. I know I am a little late, but a compliment is in order to those who keep this place in order. I am new here but I have been involved with a number of forums. I was a regular member at one in particular, but I have never been treated with as much respect in any online situation as I have here. Well, except for being told to search, but that is to be expected. This site is refreshing in an old fashioned sort-of way. Thanks Tanner McGraw
  4. I am familiar with the back-door draft that you speak of. I lived with three guys that were caught by the stop loss. One had a week left before he got out and they put stop-loss in effect. He was the most miserable person there. cantstopdriftin- Just pray for her. I definitely changed, but I feel like it was for the better. I try not to take things for granted anymore. I appreciate the small things in life and I know I went from a boy to a man over there. If you look hard enough there is good in any situation.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I would consider myself a novice mechanic but I like to learn. I have most of the tools I would need including a welder, but some of the fabrication would have to be done by a professional. I'd still love to hear other's opinions as well. Jamie T- what do you have in your Z?
