The early 240s never had rear bars. I installed a 280 bar on my 240 and recall the back end wanting to slide out on the track.
When I installed my CVs I took it off and never missed it.

Are the strips one piece or is the "head" welded on?
Looks nice!
3 pieces welded together.
-
....dont know? Will these work with the early 260z model? If so I'm interested... -
Bottom line is ...you have no clue where this happened and as such you dont have a chance in hell to win a claim. Do you really believe this car wash is preferential to hurtin Mazdas?
Its not.

I ran my stock 240z tank for a year on the street without a single issue.....I guess it depends on how hard you will drive the Z. I want to drive mine harder......
So is it confirmed or not that a turbo z gas tank will work? or is it only the 75-76? -
Thanks Dave!
Hi Jerry, since we live close to each other I would be in for a set. I know the work will be first class. -
Agreed on both accounts, makes perfect sense.....Less welding would save huge! Im not convinced all this welding is required......the OEM had a few spot welds.
As far as a gusset goes....thats why I used a much heavier material than stock. 1/8"
All comments are appreciated!!!!!!
As far as the J bolts go....I have a set from the aftermarket...looks like stock. I gotta see if I an find more. May be good to include them with the straps. Good point!
jerry, 2 observations from my non-engineer brain. for the welded parts, do you feel it necessary to run the welds from front to back or could you save time & $ by using less weld. second, take a look at the angled end when you mount the tank to see if they want to straighten themselves as tension is applied. they might need a small reinforcement on the side to prevent this. hope my explanation makes sense.what are you doing for the "j" bolts?

I just bought my first prime lens and wow...now I "see the light"...
I figure this lens is the deal of the centry as you can pick them up on flee bay for little. Its funny, I expected so much from my 18-200mm VR.....then I spend $20 and ......
Took this shot last night.
Its not a great shot ...it just amazed me as it was a dark rainy night!
My next lens will be the more "dear" 80-200 F2.8. Cant wait.

jerry, they look great. you have an idea of price yet?
Thanx David!
Not yet....this was the prototype I cut it by hand. It takes way too much time! I will get a quote to laser cut the parts and then the only labor will be welding....
And besides, I need to confirm fit.
Thanx for the interest guys!

nice work, when is it going into the z?
Tomorrow, but it wont be ready to run for a couple of weeks...just not enough time in the week and Im trying to ready my SX for Mosport.
-
Here are a few pics of my first attempt....Will install the tank tomorrow and post more pics....
All parts are SS and tig welded.
The straps are the same width and thickness as OEM .
The L brackets are heavier than stock.
The other end is made in three layers just like OEM but Tig fused all the way around....not spot welded.

Ok
here is my final "black box" build.....
I made the gasket out of rubber/cork material and the lid is SS. The tubes are SS as well.
Hope it does what I want it tooooooooo.
One thing I would recommend. The fuel level sensor is very close the the SS back box. If I was to do it again I would gof 3.5" deep in to make more clearance.

Im pretty sure any year will work.....
-
Why dont you just come over to my place and have a look ...instead of hoping I will miss this thread Jason!!!!!!

Just go with the Rb25 unless money is an absolute deal breaker. IN this game whats a few extra hundred...the job will be done.
-
Will know as soon as I measure ....Stock like thickness.
How thick is the strap can I ask? -
I will have new new pieces laser cut at one end and bent and welded at the other. The straps width will be near identical to OE so they fit within the gas tank indents and all chassis connecting point.
The plan is to make them as close to stock as possible.
Are you going to make new end pieces? The part that holds the bolt? Will it just be SS strap of some sort? About what thickness and width?
-
I will be making a set of SS gas tank straps for my 240 and am curious if anyone else is interested. At this point I have no idea on cost but will work it out soon.
Basicaly they will be stock "like" but in SS.
They are no longer available from NISSAN....and I dont believe anyone else supplies them.
Any interest?

I once heard, the difference between a pro and amateur photographer is that the amateur takes 100 photos and shows you 100. The pro takes 1000 and shows you 1.
So true......but It seems I take thousands of bad ones! Actualy, I finally grasped and understand the basics so now I hope to apply what Ive learned.

Nice work....Im thinking of doing this with my SX track car. Different colour...same paint.
Perhaps all the Ontario guys can go to Meph place and have their cars painted!
Party at Meph's:burnout:

I will find out soon as I just bought an LC-1 for mt SX from Eriiks performance on ebay. Best price going and it included a guage and free shipping!
Yes, they are fully programmable with templates for standard configurations. With this, you could replace the narrowband, but I've never tried it myself. -
YUP...photbucket and copy the IMG link..works great.
poo poo brown? I gues its picking up some background colour because it look purply grey to me???? My eyes..my eyes....I cant feel my eyes!
RUZN, i uploaded them to photobucket then copied and pasted the links.Jerry, its actualy the factory doo doo brown. I didnt really care for the color at first but its actualy grown on me.

Why dont you consider one of the repair / service manuals.
The Haynes is one of the best. Lots of pictures and schematics..

A lot of the cars on this forum may not be good indicators as most are modified.
