Hitachi A/C compressor for 76 280z
Tai280z posted a topic in Parts WantedThis is the Hitachi SWP123-4G A/C compressor from my 76 280z. Wondering if anyone has one they aren't using after a conversion, or even one that is seized. All I need is the back cover plate as mine has a hairline fracture that leaks under pressure. Thanks.
Blower Motor Upgrade (Kia Sportage)
sayitaintjonas posted a topic in InteriorI spent several days researching ways to improve the air output on my 76 280z and wasn't able to find a really nice walk through, so I thought I'd share what I did. It looks like most of the people who put 1988-1991 Honda Civic blowers in their Z weren't able to feel a big difference. I noticed some people also suggesting using 1993-2004 Kia Sportage blowers. So, off to my junk yard I went. I found both a Civic and Sportage blower. After comparing the two, the Kia blower seemed better built and had a larger cage so I bought it for $30 and proceeded to my Z. The nice thing about this upgrade is that the Kia blower is roughly the same size, it rotates the correct way, it uses the same wire harness, and it uses the same mounting holes. It just so happens that I have taken my dash out to install a dash cap and add LED instrument lights. I don't know if you could do this upgrade with the dash in place because the entire blower housing has to be removed. This is the guide I followed for removing my dash (PITA!) http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/5934-removing-dash-and-interior-for-paint/ Here is the blower housing location The original blower and cage are on the left. The Kia unit is on the right I removed the foam padding from the fan housing since the kia unit doesn't need the extra spacing. Next, I placed the Kia blower cage over the hole, lining up the bolt holes, and marked the area to widen. I highlighted this in red. Using some aviation snips, I cut out the excess metal. I cleaned up the hole with my Dremel later. I then placed the new Kia unit in the blower housing and secured it using the original bolts and washers. The unit spins free and has just enough clearance The original Z wire harness fits right into the new motor. I plugged it in to make sure it works and it really seems to put out some air. I'll post another update once I get the dash back in.
High idle 1300rpm.
Please work posted a topic in Trouble Shooting / General EngineHello everyone. I've tried doing a search, but couldn't get anything. My 75 280z idles at about 1300rpms with constant misfiring throwing it up or down 200rpms. Not sure if those two are related. My concern here is the high idle though for the moment. All vacuum lines are less than a month old. My A/C & heat was removed by PO due to "electrical issues. Blowing fuses." My temperature switch (heard this could be an issue) does not function properly. When I connect it, she idles really high then dies. My AFM is new and was tampered with by PO, but I have it set at the optimal setting I think. Idle adjustment screw on throttle body is all the way down. Side note (note sure of its relevance): there is plenty vacuum coming off the intake manifold line going to the CC, but the small hose with the "T" in it coming out has ZERO vacuum. The throttle linkage is not sticking. Please oh please let your far reaching knowledge rain down upon me. Thank you in advance:)
1975 280z A/C Squealing
JTCN posted a topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280zHi, my '75 280z makes a horrible squealing sound whenever you engage the A/C. If you set the climate control to vent or any other setting the noise doesn't happen, only when its on A/C with the fan on. I heard it could be the belt so I sprayed a generous amount of water on the pulleys and belt and the sound persisted. The noise gets louder and changes pitch when I press on the gas. If I get out and look at the belt when the A/C is engaged I can see the belt slow down/catch on something. I've driven it with the A/C on for a few minutes to see if it would ever stop but it hasn't. At this point I'm kinda lost as to what it could be and what I should do about it. I'd love if you guys could give me some advice.
