Hey everyone, I saw that this book is being released by SAE a couple days ago and figured it might be a worthy read for those that are putting forth efforts on this sub-forum. You can pick it up now today for $129 on SAE's website, or $103 if you are an SAE member. It looks like Amazon has it listed as well but not stocked yet. **Note: I don't have any affiliation with the author or book in any way, just thought it might be a useful reference. Here is a blurb on the book: This book provides an introduction to ground vehicle aerodynamics and methodically guides the reader through the various aspects of the subject. Those needing specific information or a refresher can easily jump to the material of interest. There is a particular emphasis on various vehicle types (passenger cars, trucks, trains, motorcycles, race cars, etc.). However, the book is focused on cars and trucks, which are the most common vehicles in the speed range in which the study of ground vehicle aerodynamics is beneficial. Hi guys! I'm new on here and to cars but hopefully I'll catch on quickly. I originally bought my 280zx to convert it into a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO but have recently scrapped the idea because I have neither the money nor the knowledge to do such a dramatic transformation. Now its just being turned into a car to take to the drag strip, which hopefully doesnt make too many of you cringe in horror but it's better to wreck a $1000 dollar car than one thats worth at least 8 to 10 right? There is a lot more rust on it than I thought there was. The previous owner had it for a year and left it outside and the guy before him had it sitting in his garage for 5 years. If nothing else it will be a good learner car. As far as i can tell its all stock, manual and not the turbo version though id like to put one on one day. As for damage so far, somebody tried to steal the front bumper (when it was in that guys garage) which ruined the air dam cause the tossers didnt know about the 2 bolts connected to the fenders which are damaged too. Rust every where im finding out, hole rotted under passenger seat, rust bubbling up around the top of the windshield, the usual rusted on nuts and bolts (better get a dozen cans of WD40) and a mouse nest on top of the engine. Its just a track car but I want the little lady to look respectable, though I bet that will be a challenge going to a drag track with a mostly stock Datsun. I'm there to have fun and go down the track not beat anyone, though that would be a bonus. The plan is to keep most of it stock since im on a pretty strict budget because i would like to attend an auto mechanics school in the fall. She's already undergoing severe diet surgery since that is one of the few things im capable of doing on my own. My roommate is a mechanic and he told me the first thing i need to do is get a race brake booster which will be priced out today, and if its affordable enough, purchased. I'll worry about the rollcage later because its not going to break the 12 second barrier let alone the 10 second. Unfortunately its not run yet because there is no battery which will also change today. Still have to drain the several year old gas as well. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of all the vacuum lines for the fuel injection system? Id like to minimize the amount of stuff in the engine bay. Also is there a better, inexpensive ecu I could put in it just to limit things and make it more effective? Hope to hear from you guys. Pics to follow. Thomas

So this past weekend we had a dyno day here in NW Arkansas so I had a chance to get my Z on the dyno and do a little tuning. My setup consists of a 98 LS1/T56 with 799 milled .035 for around 11.5:1 compression. My own custom built longtube headers. Stock LS1 intake, stock cam. Tune that could still use a bit of polishing up, but its decent. Anyways on to the results/pics/videos. Dyno'd saturday morning on a Dynojet. For comparison a 98 Camaro with nothing but headers and a slight tune put down 330/341 torque. Anyways my final results after 4 pulls and a couple tune tweaks were 348rwhp@~5500rpm and 370rwtq@~4500rpm. Tune could still use some tweaking, tried to do some more logging at the track, my launch/1-2 shift were shorting something out or causing my buddies laptop to stop logging, so I was only able to get one log when I just rolled up to 3rd and 4th gear. And on to the track results. My best time of the day ended up being and the video is of that pass: 60ft: 2.0217 330ft: 5.3256 1/8 ET: 7.9681 1/8 MPH: 93.91 1000 ET: 10.2482 1000 MPH: 108.04 1/4 ET: 12.1520 1/4 MPH: 118.33 That poor fox body never stood a chance lol. This is the second time I've gone to the track on the same axles, normally I break them on a daily basis, but the one thats in there now must be made of unubtanium or something! I was shifting hard the last few passes as well, almost WOT shifting 3rd and 4th, launching pretty decent, and was getting lots of wheel hop, and it kept on going. If my local track back home was a 1/4 mile instead of 1000ft I know it would do 11s without changing a thing, I pulled a 10.06 in the 1000ft at my local track, and my MPH is up 2+ from that 10.06 pass. -Will
