Slowly getting my l28et 280z going...ive turboed an n/a 280z and have had several sr'd 240's and with an open down pipe the turbos are very audible, with my current z i hear nothing ( took off the turbo inlet to check the turbine, spins freely and minimal shaft play, no oil in inlet tube and appears to be in really good shape) just curious because my last turbo 280z was very loud ( a good loud)

My Son's L28ET has a stock turbo that's very audible.  You can hear that thing spin up (and down, and back up again)...  I expected mine to be much the same, but it's not.  You can feel when it starts to spool up, but you can't really hear any "turbine noise" from mine.  I've always wondered if it's the difference in our exhausts or something.

I wouldn't worry if the boost is reaching the desired pressure. My stock turbo was loud. It made boost just fine. I removed it and it had a lot of play in the shaft. I replaced it with a new, bigger turbo which is more quiet. Based on this I'm thinking a louder turbo may be a bad thing. If the turbo is too small it will need to spin faster to make boost. If it's worn it will need to spin even faster (more noise).

My t3t4 turbo doesn't make much noise at idle or even reving but once you put enought load on it you hear it......even with just the down pipe I couldnt really hear it spooling till I took it out and drove it.... also intake could be a factor on the noise levels too
