280zjake
Those mounts look so simple and clean compared to the JCI mounts. I wonder how well the metal on the subframe will hold up at that location. It will get some good testing by you for sure. Looking good! These look similar to the Hawks 3rd gen set-up they are simple and free up tons of room
SUNNY Z
Not using stainless? No? Never was. Didn't want to deal with the added cost, no TIG welder, and adding expansion joints, etc. It will all be wrapped anyway.
kyle319
Awesome work man! Where abouts in Iowa are you?? Im from cf and I just picked up a 280z recently and I am planning to go the same route as you but rather with the 4.8l. However I did just find a crashed gto ls2 with 20k miles on it which is very tempting... however I have a lot of body work and restoration work to do before I can start on the motor! mattd428
Don't need a tig to weld stainless. Comes out nicer though.

mattd428
Why did you go 3" to 4"?
SleeperZ
Love that down pipe! Very impressive.
SUNNY Z
Why did you go 3" to 4"? Had a friend with a 3" running into backpressure issues last year. 3.5" would have been plenty in hindsight... but it fits for now!
RebekahsZ
Sounds like a case of "down pipe envy." Its not the size that matters, but rather what you can do with it. Edited January 13, 2014 by RebekahsZ
SUNNY Z
Well the 4" was just not going to fit easily, so I picked up some 3.5", and got the DP out past the bellhousing. Welds are kinda crappy on some of it as I was at the end of the tank of gas. Still trying to decide if I want to dump the wastegate or just route it back in. Thoughts? 78zstyle
Still trying to decide if I want to dump the wastegate or just route it back in. Thoughts? Open wastegate sounds pretty cool, but it might get old after awhile.
SUNNY Z
Open wastegate sounds pretty cool, but it might get old after awhile. Yeah, I haven't really paid enough attention before to have a preference.
sq_creations
If your worried about back pressure the dump them. If not let them recirculate them.
SUNNY Z
If your worried about back pressure the dump them. If not let them recirculate them. I'm not sure if I should be worried or not! the 3.5" downpipe should support quite a bit of power. plenty of guys making around 800 on a 3" DP. RebekahsZ
Sunny Z, lets try to be ready for drag week in 2015. We can convoy together. I will try to get a hitch made in the next 12 months.

SUNNY Z
Got a little done last night despite spending an hour and a half snowblowing Hot side painted And wrapped. Just cheapo black FG wrap from siliconeintakes.com. Double wrapped with 50% overlap on crossover. Used 50' of 1" on the one manifold, need to buy more. SUNNY Z
Finished wrapping the hot side, put it back in the car, and worked on tying the frame rails together. This is what I came up with. It has to be this far back to allow room for the monster Taurus E-Fan. I was thinking about moving it further forward, in front of the radiator to allow more space in the actual engine bay. Not sure if it will be as effective, but its an option.
