whatnow123
Hey There,Just bought a 280z in near perfect condition (no really an un-restored survivor) and I had been looking for awhile. The current plan is to lower it, do a complete suspension upgrade and drop a v8 5 or 6 speed in it. That is the plan anyway. My question is, the rear wheels on these cars do not center in the wheel well. Is there a "fix" to better center the rear wheels? I'm very mechanically inclined and have fabrication/welding skills so I'm not afraid correcting this. Just wondering if anyone knows the "fix" to this. BluDestiny
Adjustable rear A arms. Techno toy tuning, Arizona Z car, and a few other companies sell them.
JMortensen
Not a good idea to "fix" this with adjustable A arms. The wheels are close to the front of the wheelwell when the strut is straight up and down. If you move the wheel back, the strut is now angled. If your control arms don't account for that (most won't) then you'll put a lot of side force on the strut and the control arm.
johnc
It's normal. Changing it will take a lot more work then adjustable a-arms and will likely have a negative affect on handling.
SUNNY Z
I had Gabe at TTT build me a set of custom backing plates to do mine, in coordination with the T3 strut tubes. Love it. I've had a 28 x 10.50 Slick under the car will no problems. I do have flares though.
m1ghtymaxXx
Perhaps alternatively if you see flares in your future, you could trim the arches to better visually center them over the the wheels.

Not easy. The door jamb/rocker is right there and you'd have to cut out the wheel arch.
