Garrett76Zt
Hey I just wanted to verify. On the stock zxt afm . . . tightening the dial will lean the mixture and loosening it will richen the mixture, is that correct of do I have it backwards? thanks, Garrett
David K
yes you are correct. dont over richen it, it will sputter. dont over lean it, it will die a horrible death and the engine will see like it is suffocating.
Challenger
Sorry to bump an old thread but I just wanted to get some information regarding this. Im sure the answer will be helpful to some searching. On what scale does adjusting the afm change engine function. Does tightening the dial say a 1/8 inch make the engine not even run or it hardly noticeable? Just wondering If I ever do this how much to start out doing.
Administrators BRAAP Posted June 10, 2009 Administrators Share Posted June 10, 2009 It is VERY sensitive... One click makes a noticeable difference.

Chemicalblue
And always keep your finger mashed down on the spring gear to make sure it doesn't unwind when loosening the set screw!. If it does unwind, it takes a lot of tuning and adjustments to get it close again.
cgsheen
What's the best way to get a stock AFM BACK to it's original settings? Every single L28ET AFM I have (and/or have seen) has been opened and messed with. I have no way of knowing if the spring tension has been changed or by how much... Witness mark the dial "before" you move it, so that after you do make adjustments you have a datum/reference point to go back to if things go hay wire such as loosing grip on the wheel and it freewheels loose or you just need to go back to OE settings for whatever reason. Outside of that, best of luck, trial and error tuning... Edited November 12, 2009 by BRAAP Typo...
cgsheen
That sucks... I learned LONG ago to always mark original alignment before making any changes on stuff like this. Whoever broke open the AFM's we have obviously didn't know that rule... My son's L28ET idles/accelerates/cruises the best (by "feel") - his engine really does run nice... And it has for the past 2 1/2 years since we did the swap. But I've been struggling with mine since May - It's close, it's still not "there". I've been through everything else and I hoped there was a way to get the AFM "spring rate" back to factory settings. (then, if needed, to start making adjustments from there)
