FreddyZ78 Posted January 31, 2014 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I was going down the freeway at about 70mph when my car suddenly started stalling when I would press the gas pedal. It will start back up after it dies but it will die again if I press the gas pedal. Can anyone help me? I had to leave it on the side of the road since I was on my way to work. dexter72 Posted January 31, 2014 Share Posted January 31, 2014 If your car is still on the side of the road i would bring a can of gas and your basic tools to do some checking. Make sure you have someone with you to help you. See if it will start and idle, If not add the fuel. See if it starts after that. If not, remove the fuel hose at the rail, coming from the fuel filter. Crank the engine over checking for fuel. Check for spark from the coil to the distributor cap, then plug the wire back in and check for spark at the end of the spark plug wires. No spark, you have an ignition issue. FreddyZ78 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Share Posted January 31, 2014 I just replaced the fuel filter and it started and doesn't stall right away when given gas but still does die. I've checked for vacuum leaks but couldn't find any. It looks like its getting spark. NewZed Posted January 31, 2014 Share Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) Both ignition module and ECU failures tend to be heat-related. Heat from the electrical current running through. So if you can get it started don't get angry and rev the piss out of it, drive like Grandma to get it home. Low RPM all the way. If the problem starts again watch the tachometer needle. Ignition module problems tend to show up as a jumpy needle, sometimes reading higher RPM than actual. But it sounds like it's dying at idle. That's more like a low fuel pressure problem. yhlz Posted February 24, 2014 Share Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Could be a bad diaphragm in your brake booster. I am having the same issues. When ever I step on the brakes, the booster leaks air into the vacuum line that connects to the intake manifold, causing the engine to bog down and die. Here is a simple way to test it before you actually buy a new booster (which are hard to find a replacement for now). take a clamp and securely clamp down the vacuum hose that goes from the booster to the intake manifold.
