Need Suspension help

Recommended Posts

82 280zx, car has a lq4/t56 swap, I am kind of maxed out on budget and I need new shocks and spring for the car. I was looking at the ones  below but I don't know if that's the best choice for my setup. also the car had a ls1 in it before, and when I did the swap it lowered the front end (to be expected do to the weight difference) but it raised my ass end up( didn't expect that). the motor is all the way back to where the transmission bell housing, is pretty much touching the fire wall, so I am unsure why it would do that. any help would be great this is my first Datsun, so I am unfamiliar with the quirks they have. I have loaded a picture to show the raise in the ass end.

I have been reading a lot about this, and I should have stated this, I am not going to be running autocross this car is going to be more for a straight line car driven every once and awhile, to go out and have fun. most everything I read about is more suited for road racing.

This thread, Post #15, implies that you only added 100 lbs, if all you did was go from aluminum to iron blocks.  You said it had an LS1 before.  That 100 lbs seems to be having a larger effect than you'd expect.  Is their extra stuff hanging off the front like AC compressors and power steering pumps?

I'm no LSX engine expert but I think that the blocks for the Gen III engines are all essentially the same.

Maybe the ZX just isn't suited for a V8 swap.  It would be interesting to know the weight balance front to back of the car, as it sits.  Even if you get the heights corrected, you might still end up with a wheel-spinning monster.

Here's a good read on what you might have.  Maybe you can make some adjustments.  Looks like a fun problem. http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Parts_DATZX_MountingInstructions.html

so It is a beast that's for sure. I cut the springs in the back and it lowered it to fix the camber issue.  and I have 275 nt05r drag radials on it at the moment and it hook really well. but I didn't want to keep it with cut springs so I am just looking for a better than stock replacement. it just doesn't seem like there is much out there unless you are spending 1500 to 2k on it. or you have to piece everything together. the only thing I have fond for a full kit is out of stock everywhere.

Lighter/heavier replacement springs by themselves should not be expensive if you can find a spring place who can reset them. As for shocks, try and go with a recognised sports brand like Koni or Bilstein or else just get stock type replacements.
