Hoffmann Photography
I am planning on buying a set XXR 531 for my 77 280z. 16x8 +0 in the front and 16x9 +0 in the rear. I just wanted to check to see if a 9" tire will fit a bone stock suspension setup. If you could also recommend tire size that would be best. GeeZ
The wheels should be OK. I run 225x50x16 on rear and front on XXR 535 with zero offset. 225 may rub on the outer wheel well up front, though. I think I should have use 205x50x16 in the front. JPN_Garage
On a 16x8 you can go with a 205/45 or 50 16 tire
RebekahsZ
The answer from the old guys is "no." The answer from the young guys is "yes". I guess it comes down to your definition of "fit" and "bone stock." When my car was stock, the biggest I could fit was a 15x7 zero offset with a 225/50/15 tire. That was back when a 15 was big. I think a 16x7 would be fine too. The limiting problem was the rear fenders. There's actually more room up front for tires-that could have gone to 8" with a perfect offset. But I don't see 9" in back fitting by my definition of the word. Not by a mile.
Hoffmann Photography
Alright cool thanks for the help. I will probably just do 16x8 all around.
johnc
The old guys are concerned with performance. The young guys are concerned with style.
RebekahsZ
I guess that's why I get a that Viagra spam.
Hoffmann Photography
Haha ya I like style over performance any day. But out of curiosity, would the extra weight of the wheels dampen the performance of my stock engine.
BLOZ UP
I have 225/50/16x8+0 all around (Bridgestone streets). The front's don't rub at all*. The rears required rolling the fenders but are now fine. A slightly negative offset and you might be able to keep the fender lips straight. Also, be aware actual tire widths vary a lot between makes. *OK, maybe I heard it rub once or twice hitting a bump at full lock
RebekahsZ
Yes, the weight of a dead mosquito on the windshield will dampen the performance of a stock motor. On this "will it fit?" question: in my book, if it rubs, it doesn't fit.
alexx933
I have the same size as BLOZ UP and a completely worn suspension on my 77. The only time that I get any rubbing is from loading up a corner with weight. Typically involved a sharp corner with a small drop in the middle. EF Ian
I run 225/45/16's on a 8" wheel with +10 offset, it fits the rear well, no rubbing. Not stock suspension but I tried it when I has stock suspension and it did fit at the rear but not the front.
BLOZ UP
Haha ya I like style over performance any day. But out of curiosity, would the extra weight of the wheels dampen the performance of my stock engine. Wheels are unpsrung weight, and have rotational inertia. So even small drops in wheel weight brings relatively large benefits, and vice-versa. Edited February 19, 2015 by BLOZ UP
