Those pictures don't tell too much like to an almost funny point, but it looks like it has rust in the rear slam panel, the door and possibly the fender.

Looks like a later 240z with a 280zx turbo (at least valve cover and injector cooler fan) motor. 280z hood or at least vents.

It was painted later, quite poorly given they didn't take 2 seconds to cover up the courtesy light or bag it up. The mirror and stuff chipping like that shows low prep, unfortunately that also means it is going to hide a lot of imperfections. I would definitely take a body magnet and look for bondo

Evidence of rust in the slam panel, doors, and what looks to be fenders.

I feel like you should be able to do better in california. That is not the best condition car, so I'm with neverdone, how bad is your car that this looks like a good idea?

I got my car at the time because I thought it was a good solid car, now looking back at it I should have waited and not jumped the gun. I think the car has been repainted. These photos are old but the body is still in the same condition, I have since bought T3 front and rear brakes. My mechanic has put in a new radiator, starter, ignition switch, distributor, and "ignition coil?" and more things. I am thinking now I’m already down a lot of money and don’t know what to do next. I am thinking of posting on the new members once I get my car back from the shop and I can post better pictures of it.IMG_0439.thumb.JPG.7b882b5370e71b1139a69c2e1691a1ec.JPGIMG_0462.thumb.JPG.fa9443503fe71cf233cae2122fcd83b2.JPGIMG_0461.thumb.JPG.55faaac61d9d24e0d6fa4a3934bc194f.JPGIMG_0459.thumb.JPG.ea27b820864e7c36104ea8340a642f9e.JPGIMG_0458.thumb.JPG.2251970998a5e8b5c82390ce987eb8b2.JPGIMG_0457.thumb.JPG.c8a01ef872266f66b00292afc84913e0.JPGIMG_0456.thumb.JPG.982ab4d4149e68235100881ede155ee6.JPGIMG_0455.thumb.JPG.cbee08977d13f5fab4073a98276971b9.JPGIMG_0454.thumb.JPG.99dd0763905fd44a3476a64ad2082f68.JPGIMG_0453.thumb.JPG.d7abb8054dc3a490db08a725bd3096a0.JPGIMG_0452.thumb.JPG.6611cff22e55f5a1e81e22a51f33fd63.JPGIMG_0451.thumb.JPG.b88023c31e5dcc21c5796b5a753b70a0.JPGIMG_0450.thumb.JPG.75f56a933cda837bdbe926bcaec2973d.JPGIMG_0449.thumb.JPG.67a779a453b44e2057efcf6c711ffd35.JPGIMG_0448.thumb.JPG.b01c088f0493db0841465b65daced7ff.JPGIMG_0447.thumb.JPG.50535075455944941ea82044d1d97224.JPGIMG_0446.thumb.JPG.f6c39cbca50bbe9edbed80804691f0cd.JPGIMG_0445.thumb.JPG.09cd34d58e2632805612e2800e82a743.JPGIMG_0444.thumb.JPG.9e3427e88dc3c5fdc75b948f65db0584.JPGIMG_0440.thumb.JPG.57eb73bd1d20dfba666e604df8dc55fd.JPG

Dude, your car is fine. Out here, it'd be considered practically rust free. You'd be pretty stupid to part out a car in that condition, it's better than 90% of Zs out there. These cars are coming up on 50 years old, and they are known for having rust problems - your car is SOLID. Just needs a bit of metal work. Even "rust free" Zs have rust.

The car you're looking at looks like it needs a full strip down resto. It looks like it's been sitting in the sun for the last 20 years, and it clearly has had prior body work.

Your car needs work. But l would wager that the other chassis needs much more work. Do yourself a favor and do some rust clean up so it doesn't get worse, take a deep breath and then work on what you can when you can.

Everything about an old car of any sort isn't cheap and you won't get your money out of it either, we do it cause we love Z's. You'll end up hating it if you're not doing it for the fun of it (like trying to make a 50 year old car your "daily" and keep it running properly).

Edit: maybe I'm biased by the 5-years-ago Z prices, but even what I've looked at lately that other car is a ~$3000 or less car on my local craigslist, and I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for it. If it were a running turbo motor in the chassis, I'd pay $4
