luke87gt
Hey guys, I’m looking into an LSX/T56 swap into a 1972 240z. Since it’s a street car, what I absolutely don’t want is poly engine/trans mounts. I’m not knocking those but having had them on street cars before, I don’t like the NHV (noise, harshness, vibration) and would prefer to use rubber mounts if possible. Any swap kits out there that use GM OEM rubber mounts (or equivalent)? Thanks for your help.
JoeK
The Johns Cars (JCI) kit uses stock rubber mounts. Small block Chevy on one side, and the stock LS1 Camaro mount and clamshell on the other. I don’t know about any others.
luke87gt
That’s great news. Thanks for the reply. know anything about the trans mount?
JoeK
Yes, the trans mount also uses a rubber mount. At least for the T56 for sure, but probably the auto as well.
luke87gt
That’s great news, thanks for confirming. Most of these LS swap kits out there for various platforms use poly which I personally would never use again on a street car after my experience with it on my C5 z06. Poly and solid mounts are what I call "vibration enhancers", which is great when trying to find an annoying buzz or rattle (since it makes them REALLY bad & you can finally get rid of it), but for anything other than a race car, I stick with rubber, as well. LLave
I built mine with universal poly bushings, my backup plan is to source replacement bushings in rubber or something softer than poly. Perhaps energy suspension hyperflex in the 70a durometer flavor. http://energysuspension.com/universal-products/link-flange-type-bushings-universal-mounts-isolators.html
JoeK
My. Motor and trans mounts are rubber, and all my suspension is poly. So we'll see how that feels, someday...
luke87gt
Thanks for all the replies. I have experience with both poly motor/trans mounts and poly suspension mounts. They have their place but I would never put them in a street car ever again.
LLave
I am starting to feel like maybe I made a mistake going all poly everything.
Richard Oben
I have all poly, no big deal, it is not supposed to be a lexus. R
