S30 L280ET in Seattle area.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for reply.

I'm in a process of getting 77 280Z 2+2 5-speed, and was looking at potential L28ET swap. Interested to see if anyone have done this conversion for any S30 around Seattle area or can recommend someone who can help with install (not for free of course).

Just wondering if you saw this.

Good luck, you won't be the first person to do this swap. You won't be the last. You're not gonna find someone to hold your hand, but you will find everything you will need to know on how to do this swap on the internet (most of the information will be on this site).

Getting the motor in physically won't be too difficult. If I recall you have to keep the mounts on the engine side from the current motor in your car.

Wiring isn't too difficult to sort through once you have the motor as the wiring is a little different between the years.

With a 2+2 you may run into issues with the drive shaft length if you plan on running the T5 transmission. If you plan on keeping the 5 speed you have now it won't be a problem, but it will be a weaker setup if you decide to up the power down the line.

If you are looking for a shop I think Z-sport up north in Everett or Fairlady Motors/U.P. garage down in Tacoma are the only specialist, not that you would really particularly need one, a competent shop should be able to tackle it. I think the only person I know that does private work is Dave up in Marysville.

If you are looking for input/advice, there are quite a few local guys around who have done it. @Boog has one in his car, @TheFairlady went through a few in his. @AlbatrossCafe is also sporting one if I'm not mistaken, you may be able to pick their brains about questions.

Thank you guys! Looks like I'll be doing that later down the road, as the car that I was about to purchase turned out to be more of the project then the owner was claiming. Good thing I took it to a body shop before pulling the trigger.  It's hard to find a good one this days for a reasonable price. Patience and time I guess...

I'm in Bellevue. I have a '78 280z with an '82 L28ET. I bought it with the swap completed though cus I wanted to avoided that hassle.

I tore down my engine a few months ago to throw in a bigger turbo, Megasquirt, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, etc. and it has been down ever since. I probably need more help than you do LOL
