Here we go again

Recommended Posts

New to hybridZ, new to the v8 swap. I've got a 1974 260z with original transmission, swapped l28 triple webers.

Is there a kit or conversion for the oem 260z transmission to work with 'any' crate motor v8's, LS options?

The plan is to swap motors and use the original transmission, if I'm able to. Appreciate any feedback and help!

There is no swap hardware to put the Z transmission behind a V8.  It wouldn't handle the torque anyway.  The 260Z engine is about 158 cubic inches, compared to 350 for a SBC.  The old Z transmission bearings are typically ready to fall apart besides that, not uncommon even with the stock engines.  It would probably last about one pull.

I haven't done it myself, but I wouldn't even try it just based on what I've learned.

I agree with NewZed on not reusing your 260z transmission but you do have another Nissan option which is what I am doing.

The reasonably priced Nissan RS5R30A 5 speed found in the Z32 300ZX is used in boosted LS swapped drift cars and has proven to take serious abuse such as full throttle clutch kicking. Another bonus is it is a bit lighter and smaller than the GM 6 speed.

There are many v8 swap transmission adapters our there, I'm installing the LOJ Kits piece.

The other option would be to use the older Z31 Nissan 300z transmission which has the same strength but different gear ratios.

Here are the different transmissions with their gear ratios.  I benchmarked the Corvette Z06 GM 6 speed when deciding to go with the Z32.  The final drive ratios are very close (although done with one less gear in the 5 speed obviously).

RS5R30A:
Z32:

1st 3.214
2nd 1.925
3rd 1.302
