Guest Your Car is Slow
So umm...which bolts actually hold the head to the block? The 4 down the middle under the cam? or the ones along the drivers side of the head? or all of the above?
yo2001
14 hex head bolts.

Mudge
Your serious? How would the cylinders seal with 4 bolts dude, that would work for one cylinder, not 6.
SleeperZ
yer freakin kiddin me right? Every goddam one of those holds the head on???????? lakjdlfkjasdkfj Time to bust out the impact :/ They shouldn't be tight enough to require an impact to remove. They only have a 10mm socket head, torqued to 60 or 70 ft-lbs... I've removed them with a 3/8" socket wrench.
Guest Your Car is Slow
It was the sheer amount of them that called for the use of the air rachet...Im quite lazy
Hybrid240z
Don't forget that there is a procedure to remove head bolts or else the head might warp. The procedure is in any maitenance manual such as Haynes and Chilton. Marcos

johnc
So, are we taking bets on how many of the head bolts snap when the trigger is pulled on the impact gun? I say 8 and will put up $5.
260ZRED
I don't know how you would remove them with a 3/8, because I remember how I had to use a pipe a couple feet long just to begin turning those bolts! anyhow, good luck, and yeah, read the manual, it will tell you the order. Mudge
I agree with John, not a good idea. Plus with the long friggin L6 head, it wouldn't be good for it regardless.

Considering the torque, and the length of the wrench, I can apply 60-70 pounds to the handle...but not if the bolts are corroded. But I've dis-assembled 4 L28 engines to date and never had a problem with head bolts.
Guest Your Car is Slow
Bolts are fine...I didnt actually intend to use an impact gun...that was a bit of sarcasm....an air rachet however will indeed get used.
