Jay1970Z
Maybe it would be a good idea to add a beginner forum for people new to the site. It could possibly weed out most of the usual questions that get posted in every other section of the site such as, how much does it cost, how hard is it, etc. Maybe have a sticky at the top with a link to the FAQ or something stating that people should always try the SEARCH function before asking repetitive questions. Just a suggestion...
strotter
You know, that's a pretty good idea. It's not like the board is hard to navigate, but I think a lot of newbies have no idea where to start. Perhaps a "Newbies take note!" button at the top of the forum, which would take them to a FAQ section. Heck, I'd be willing to start a FAQ, if I could get some help from others. CruxGNZ
Jeromio strated one a while back... here it is, it's still up http://240z.jeromio.com/faqdraft/ !M!
katman
Yeah, and a filter to delete posts without any punctuation, capital letters, or one misspelled word per sentence.
Tim240z
Yeah, and a filter to delete posts without any punctuation, capital letters, or one misspelled word per sentence. We would have no traffic on HybridZ, then! Tim
johnc
I'm glad other people feel this way. I've been getting kinda grumpy about some of the posts lately. I think its time to create a Newbie page simliar to this one: http://www.corner-carvers.com/wiki/index.php?Guide%20For%20Newbies The money paragraph: "Anyone schooled in economics is familiar with Gresham's Law: bad money drives out good. Well, indifferent moderating invites a Gresham's Law of Online Interaction: idiotic postings drive away contributors who have something interesting to say." CruxGNZ
John, that newbie page on corner-carvers is awsome! It would be great if we could incorporate a page similar to that one and Jerimio's FAQ page. We will have to add more to the FAQ page, but that shouldn't take to much work. What do you guys think? Maybe with corner-carvers permission, we could use thier words since it's already been written so well? !M!
Chris-280ZX
but what if the newbies cant even find the forums? AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I think a FAQ is a good idea though, hell...even some of the veterans could use something like that
Guest Neil
I think this would be a great idea. I know i would probably look through any kind of FAQ section just to get answers to some questions I have. You know, like common upgrades, definitions, basic principles of engineering, how to navigate the site and find answers using the search, etc. Kind of like a HybridZ 101. I think it would also be a good opportunity to get accross the purpose and ideals of this site. I've found this site to be a good example for newbies. http://www.ptdoityourself.net Although it is not a forum based site, it's very user friendly and easy to get answers to common questions. Jay1970Z
Exactly, stuff like this... http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23235 Now, that is Chevy V8Z related, but it is the type of question that has been asked time and time again. I think something like that should be posted in a "Newbie" section where kind people like Greimann and 80LT1 (who responded to that post) can answer questions such as those. Moderators of other sections could transfer such posts to the newb section and someone could possibly answer them there. Not that this is a huge problem, but it would help organize things and hopefully slow down or put a stop to the usual repetitive questions. pparaska
Perfect example: [url']http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23168[/url] That's not a hybridZ question. It'd be fine to post at Zcar.com, or any general car site, as it's a basic trouble shooting issue for a stock configuration.
johnc
It'd be fine to post at Zcar.com Exactly. HybridZ is devolving. I think the moderators need to be more selective in what's allowed and where its posted.
Jay1970Z
We should have the Newbie forum, but when you click it, its just a link to ZCar.com, now that would be devious...hehe.

I think the moderators need to be more selective in what's allowed and where its posted. I'd route that to the Forum entitled "I'm broke so I bought an old clapped out Z, don't have the patience to read a Factory Service Manual but don't mind getting on a computer to ask somebody else to do it, and by the way how do I get 500 hp for $25?" But of course I'm an a$$hole so it's a good thing I'm not a moderator.... Uh, no offense meant to the original poster of the question, my apologies in advance. I agree with the part about bad input drives out good input. So maybe we shouldn't go there in our instructions. You know! Set a good example as a baseline. Mikelly
I offered this up as a suggestion a few weeks back in the Admin forum. I use the example from this site: http://tech.hybridgarage.com/about.html They WILL NOT allow you into the general tech forums until you prove you aren't some punk trying to cause trouble... I guess I'm some punk trying to cause trouble though, because it has been about a year and they still won't let me become a regular! Mike[/quote'] Mike, How would you know when a person is OK to be let into the regular forums? I think a newbie or general FAQ would be a good thing for the site. I like these links as examples: http://hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23010 http://hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24042 Maybe some of the work on the FAQ's could be farmed out to some of the more experienced and respected members of the site and then added to as information became avalible. Just my 2 cents
