Guest thepenguin99
Ok guys the weatherstripping on my Z is shot. Are all the aftermarket weatherstripping kits basically the same quality? Are the doors/hatch seals good enough that I can avoid the super-expensive nissan units?
j260z
i would think so. are you on the victoria british mailing list? http://www.victoriabritish.com/ they sell all the weatherstripping kits motorsport auto also carries them http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc? http://www.cybersanford.net/default.asp these guys manufacture and sell just about any other rubber part you could need. Guest thepenguin99
yea I know MSA, victoria british, and too intense restorations carry them I just remember hearing some people complain about the door/hatch seals.
SpeedRacer
You're right - the Precision Weatherstrip kit is great and has just about all the rubber weatherstripping you will need BUT the door seals are to thick and hard. Do youself a favor and buy the factory seals for the doors and use the kit for the rest.
Guest the_dj
My weatherstripping seems new and looks like it'd work well, but they leak around the doors. What can I do about it?
Guest a8ksh4
dj, You might be able to adjust the hinges and/or locks on the doors to get them to shut a bit further for a better seal.
JaysZ
if thats the case, would you be able to do the same for thich door seals and adjust the doors so that its not as tight of a seal? that way you wont have to slam so much... ? gnosez
To answer a part of the the first question regarding the fit of the replacement seals, the new ones are for a 280 and are wider. Hence, they will cause problems with fitment until you break them in. Spray with silicone and close door. Leave closed all day. Repeat until they fit right. As to adjusting the hinges the other way (not for worn seals but for new ones). You can do it only the doors will now be "proud" with the rest of the body (eg., they will stick out, not be flush, etc.). It would solve the slamming issue however. I think that the 2 part ones that Too Intense has might be thinner and closer to OEM. More money, which is not a bad thing, just depends on your comfort level. katman
You might also try Les Cannaday at http://www.classicdatsun.com. His door seals allegedly don't have the fitment problems everybody else's has.
JMortensen
Just FWIW, I used 280 OEM seals on my 240. They split after about a year, and the door skin started to split from the front of the door because I had to slam the doors. I kept thinking they would break in, but they never did. On top of the hassle, they were ~$300 for both doors...
JaysZ
ouch.. $300 each? how about this kit from ebay? does this look like the "Precision" kit everybody refers to? My car is almost out of the shop, (it looks AWESOME with the new sheetmetal welded in) and I need to get the weatherstripping soon.. thanks! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7949078773&category=33685
