Needed rules for "buy/sell/trade" forum?

As has been discussed before there are people who post non-Z related items or who just want to sell their Z and never come back. I really have no problem with either as long as it's not OVERused. Posts beget posts... surely some of them will be converted and stick around. Not that that should even be a concern.

I copied this from http://www.ls1.com it's their rules on buy/sell. Rather than nix what I don't agree with (firearms, "look what I saw on ebay) I'll post it all.

#1 - You must own what you are selling. Do not post ads for friends.

#2 - You must list a price. "OBO" is acceptable provided you sell the item to someone that offers the listed price. Correct selling ettiquette would be reserving the product to the first person that posts in the thread and offers the minimum posted price. A PM is not an offer for an item as it negates the purpose of the public thread. Any thread NOT listing a price will be deleted by the moderators.

#3 - There is absolutely no bidding allowed.

Going offline and using e-mail to conduct bidding is unacceptable. Prices must be listed. No "best offer" posts without a minimum price.

#4 - No retail sales that are in competition with our sponsors! They pay to advertise here and sell new parts. If you wish to sell retail items on LS1.COM, you must become a site sponsor!

#5 - Links to eBay auctions are OK in this forum provided the following guidlines are followed:

* The thread heading or subject line must clearly state it concerns an ebay auction. Subject line should look something like this:

1998 Silver Z28 On E-bay

Set of 98 TA seats on E-bay

* Post ONLY your auction links. No listing for a friend or "Look what I saw on E-bay" type posts.

* Do your bidding on Ebay...not here. If a member has an item on ebay but has a FIRM price for Ls1.com members that he will take before the auction ends, that would be okay to post in the threads body.

#6 - Firearms or related items are not allowed to be offered on this site.

In order to protect this site from Federal problems we cannot allow the selling, trading, or buying of any gun or weapon related items.

There are federal laws on the shipping of firearms to other states and certain licenses are required. Rather than trying to verify the presence of these licenses, we have stopped all ads for this type of item.

Thank you for your understanding of our position

#7 - No “Gauging Interest†posts. Either you want to sell the item or you don’t. These types of for sale posts wind up being too close to an auction

That's about it. Just use your common sense and don't abuse the board by filling it up with E-bay auctions. Remember, the Classified forums were created to hook-up other LS1.com members to sell and find parts with-in our community.

Yesterday I tried to buy an LSD and today I find out that Aux had already pm'd him. I have done the same thing in the past and I'm not mad nor do I wish for there to be any hard feelings... which is why I think that in the future we should follow ls1.com rule #2.

And on a slightly different tack it would be nice to have some sort of way to verify how trustworthy other members are... maybe a way to leave feedback similar to ebay?

Am I way out of line on this?

In addition, I think there should be a "no pictures, no post" rule.

As far as firearms, not that there is any reason to sell firearms on a Z forum, but as with any classified system, the responsibility of checking licenses and legal transactions is not the burden of the medium. People have been selling guns through the newspaper since before there were such invasions on our freedom as provided by "additional taxes that take 6 months to process and are sometimes not accepted." I don't think it is necessary to make any restrictions limited to firearms. Maybe some restrictions that limit sales to car parts, instead?

I don`t agree with the "no picture, no post" suggestion. I paersonally have sold quite a few things here with no pictures. As far as I know, all of my buyers have been perfectly satisfied.

IF I had a digital camera I would be more than happy to post pics, but all of the time and trouble to take and develope pics, as well as try9ing toscan and post/host them is much more trouble than it`s worth. Especially when/if the posted item doesn`t sell.

I try to post my items at a low/fair enough price to make it worth the gamble. BTW I still have an attic full of parts to sell IF anyone is interested.

I believe it would be Ok to sell certain small tyhings without a picture. It could even be too much to post apicture of somerthings, because the thing is a common item that everybody knows about. I can't think of an example right now.

Most things that have a valur associated with looks should have a pphoto, tho.

I agree with the rules. Looks good to me. I do agree that the "no pic/no post" is not a good idea, some people dont have the time or ability to take pictures and post them. Some items just need a good description. If someone is selling a bunch of parts, it may be too much trouble to take pics of it all, and may discourage them from making the offer to us here.

An issue that is probably going to come up is non-Z related sales. I dont think that there is a problem with this, as many of us are likely to sell things to get more money for our Z's. I think as long as someone has been a member for x-amount of posts/time then it should be fine for them to sell non-Z related stuff.

In all the rest of the car forums I am on it is a rule, and it's one that I think helps all parties involved, that's why I mentioned it. If no one else thinks it is a good idea, so be it. So, with that in mind, I'm not trying to start an argument with the following, just trying to let you guys know about some digital picture options.

Anyway, if you're still using regular film, you can check a box that says "online development" in Walmart, Eckerds, almost any of the 1-hour or 24-hour development places. In some places there is an option to do online development only at a cheaper price than the regular development .

However, I agree that it is a lot of trouble to get film developed - that's why I bought a digital camera. They have really come down a lot (and what was awesome quality 3 years ago and cost 500$ can now be had for 75$ because of the advances in technology.) If you are selling a lot of stuff you may want look into what is available now. I know I'm much more inclined to look closely at anything with pics. (Even a bracket.)

As far as selling cars goes, I would think that it would go without saying (although obviously it doesn't) - A couple hours of effort and some good pics can make all the difference in a sale. To me, if you aren't willing to give details on the forum, or post requested pics, you're either: a) trying to pull a fast one or B) not serious about selling the car. Either way I don't want to waste my time dealing with it. If you say "no rust, email me for pics" and get mad when you're asked to post them, especially when Hybridz offers free picture hosting, something is fishy.

The main thing that really bothers me is when you see somebody pop on here, selling something completely unrelated to Z's and their post count is 1 and its the damn advertisement post. It also bothers me when I see a post like, "WTB: R200" and then right below it "For Sale R200". I mean come on, at least check and see if there is any of what you're looking for available before posting a wanted post. One thing I would suggest is making sure when you sell something, you add sold to the subject line. That way people will know its sold and the mods can delete it knowing that it is no longer needed and won't take up any more bandwidth.
