I think that's a pretty cool thing to have available for all of us... Jon

BillZ260
Does anyone know what those welded in nuts on the side behind the door ar for? They look like they could be used for a bolt in brace or something but I have never seen them usilized on any Z. You can see 2 or 3 of them in that pick posted. Just curious.... auxilary
HAHHA! Oh man, talk about an oddball coincidence!!! A buddy of mine from another message board... Don Devendorf is his uncle! I just randomly asked him since I saw this post!
rc's240z
Thanks Z-Rex, well it turns out that one of my neighbors down the street is Don Devendorfs God Son. I am sure he would be interested in the photos and I am always looking for ideas. Note: the "Petty" bar installed through the center of the car. Best holiday Wishes! JMortensen
Would that be considered a Petty bar? The ones I've seen go from behind the driver's head to the floorboard on the passenger side. Some of them were pretty scary, coming within 6" of the drivers head, and one was a street car done by some jack@ss kid who in even the slightest accident would have brained himself on the bar. Oh, no padding either on the street car... Jon
rc's240z
I am curious why that was done on the Devendorf car (what is the benifit). A petty bar is as close of a name for the bar running through the center of the car, from the center of the roll bar to the cross bar on the roll cage. I do not intend to add that to my car, but am curious because serveral serious racers campaigning Z have used a similar solution.
johnc
Traditionally, a Petty bar (named after Maurice Petty, not Richard) runs from the top center of the main hoop to the right front floor area. Its designed to increase torsional rigidity and is very effective. With newer cage designs the Petty bar is lowered from the top center of the main hoop to a stress junction about shoulder or rib cage high behind the driver's right side. Hi Bill, I'm very pleased to hear somebody else ask that question. There is some interesting discussion about them here:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7844&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 Perhaps it would be of interest to you too. rc's240z
good Quiz Alan, I had seen this picture before. And here is your answer: A factory roll cage option. Ron
HS30-H
Ron, that's my photo. I don't know where you had seen it before, as I only reduced, compressed and posted it on classiczcars.com in order to illustrate what I was discussing. Its the interior of my friend's car ( its a pretty good replica of one of the Works 240ZR's ) and I took the photo at the 2002 NISMO Festival at Fuji Speedway in Japan. Yes indeed - its one of the Factory "Sports Option" roll over bars, which used those four captive nuts that were welded into the bodyshells at the Factory. I knew the answer before I asked the question, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other theories. It has been suggested that the captive nuts had some other use too - but I don't believe this to be the case. I am told that the PRIMARY function and purpose for them being in EVERY shell was as attachment points for the Sports Option roll over bar. Can anybody suggest proof for other uses? Cheers, Alan T. HS30-H
Hmmm, maybe I should plaster my name all over the photos that I post. This is not the first time I've noticed people saving my photos and using them with 'gay abandon' LOL. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you ( may your God go with you - whatever God you worship........ ). Alan T.
