Alex,

I'm 2 inches shorter and ~185 lbs.

The bike came with two helmets (1 Shoei, 1 Arai), a leather/kevlar jacket and a pair of leather/carbon fiber gloves---all matching the bike, and all fit well. I now have 3 helmets  . I just need some pants now.

All of this for $2800.00. great deal all around, for sure!!

Mark,

I've already told my wife that if something happens to me to post here on HZ....let everyone know that I'm worm food, and to post the Z for sale for $10k....that was even before I got the bike.

Nice purchase, Tim. I love the colors of the bike. What year is it? I am guessing '96 but I am not sure. The bike, like you said is heavy compared to a new GSXR, but still a light bike overall. I remember my first sportbike, a '91 CBR1000. What a pig! That bike was over 600lbs with a full tank. A new ZX-10R with a full tank will just be over 400lbs. What a difference. My TL1000 comes in at 450lbs with a full tank, which is where your bike should be. Still a fun and fast bike, that is dead reliable. There are plenty of parts to hop it up too. :D Ride safe and wear your gear. Enjoy.

Don't be fooled by all the hype of these newer bikes... Yea, they are cutting edge, but I suspect yours isn't to far off, and most of the squids I know can't use 1/3rd of the bike they ride!

My 98ZX9R Ninja weighs just under 400# dry weight with the mods we made, and turns 132 HP at the rear wheel, which is inline with most of the bikes made through 2002, about 140HP. They are a blast to ride, but I don't enjoy it on the street much anymore. When I go to track events, I have so much more fun, without worrying about cops and blue hairs in cages! :D

Have fun and be safe!

You're as good as dead! J/K'ing... I get that all the time. How's the wife with it? Definitely not a bad deal at that price! If you don't mind me prying, what's insurance gonna run you?

does it have inverted front forks?

Doesn't look like it to me, speak up Tim!

Is it already modded or stock? I can't wait to sell my two and buy a track bike and cruiser, that way there's no urge to push it on the street.

Actually, this is the right color. tiny_kawzx6.gif

Tim, just remember that no one watches for motorcycles, and many people plain dont like them, especially sport bikes.

If this is your first bike, I would highly recommend taking a state certified safety course. (Saved my life!)

Most facilities also have an advanced course where you can use your own bike and get superior training.

Also, as a side note, those bikes are NOT pig heavy. The way the weight is set up on those, they FEEL a lot heavier than they really are. That is something very important to remember if you want to keep yourself out of a bag with a zipper.

Dont worry too much though, there are a lot of times when motorcycles are a lot safer than cars, just make sure you never forget the times that they arent!

Nic,

I've ridden alot back in SA, when I had a 750 GSXR. Did alot of high speed runs (not much speed enforcement over there). I also went to and successfully completed the BMW motorsprts superbike school.

I know how to ride. And I've seen first hand the results of not being 100% on the job. That stuff is much more gorey in person, lwet me tell you.

I haven't taken any other school's courses, so I don't have a comparison, but the BMW SBS was fantastic. 3 Hours in teh classroom, then the rest of the day at the GP track. It was awesome!!!

I learned more in those 10 hours than I would have in a lifetime of road riding.

I need to try and get on a track again to polish my rusty skills.

I hear Infineon is pretty fun

I hope to have a sport bike one day, most likely I will get a Buell. I dunno though, 4 cylinders and two cams sure sounds right on a bike.
