I'm officially a man of Leisure...

The contract I was on ended on Thursday. What does this mean? Well I was panicing, lining up interviews with other contacts and companies... And my boss got wind of it...

So yesterday at an offsite get together the president of my company was having, they cornered me and informed me that they hired me for the long haul, and that I was getting PAID to stay at home until they find suitable work for me. The president heard me comment on the fact that I was tightening the belt, and he told me not to fear. "Go live your life, and enjoy the time off. Your health care, vacation, and full benefits are intact. We will NOT fire you, and the only way you will leave the company is by your choice, not mine."

He also told me to have the wife give him a call if she needed to hear a few words to calm her.

So, after talking to a number of other employees who have found themselves in the same situation, and had MONTHS off work without losing pay, I feel a LOT better... I'm gonna finish up some work on the house, the garage, and work on the Zcar.

Man-O-Man!

Mike :roll::D

Could not have happened to a nicer guy..... but what does it say about your company that they regularly do this kind of thing? Highly abnormal, if you ask me.... I wish I could have found such a strange employer.... Oh well, I did the next best thing 2 months ago, and quit my job. Now I work for myself out of the house. I still have some problems with my "employer", as my money comes from the state and government, but all in all it is a satisfactory arrangement. Now, a little more more money, a little less time "on the clock", and I would be ducky, but it's still better than most regular jobs I have had.

If you believe in karma, you could use some of that off-time to make me some suspension parts..... 8)

Enjoy the the time off, you must be doing something right, lol.

I work for a "Defense" contractor in the Washington DC area, specializing in the intelligence community. My specialty is systems engineering, systems integration, and testing IT systems for aquisition and implementation.

This is the norm for guys with top secret clearances, and full lifestyle polygraph investigations, or full scope polys as they are known. The problem is Uncle Sam doesn't have enough people with my kinda clearance, so those of us that have them are fortunate. As long as I don't do anything stupid or illegal (In the realm of felony crimes), then I'm good for the long haul. I've had other guys I know sit on overhead with their companies, for months, but it hadn't happened to me in my 18 years. This just checks off another box!

I'm gonna enjoy it while I can!

Very nice. The only problem I see is that with a lot of leisure time, I tend to spend more money on STUFF. So be carefull it does not become a financial burdon.

I wish I could be so lucky...

Hey Mike - BS in mechanical engineering with an MBA from Syracuse University. Used to have a Top Secret clearance based on the full SBI due to drilling with a Pentagon CNO Unit and COMSEVENTHFLT back when I was in the reserves. Next time they have a job open where I can stay home and work on honey-do's let me know. It will save onme having to move too!!:D

That great news and nice to see that the company you work for cares about you and your work.

I can see it happening as a former US Army soldier TS clearance is hard to get, very hard.

Nice to know you have a boss that takes care of you like he does. Also shows you the respect he has for your work that you do for them as well.

My sister-in-law passed this February. Two of her brothers work for dealerships in the PA area. This goes to show you the appreciation of different employers as they go, both are Master Techs, ASE certified.

The one, brother works for Toyota. His boss gave him the full week off with pay, a new Camry for his use that week, and also came to the funeral home to visit and bring personally a very large platter plate and cakes.

This is the GM of the dealership.

On the other hand the second brother, had to stay, this is after taking home a vehicle fixing it on his own time and driving it back to work. Therefore he had no ride.

Boss wouldnt let someone else go to take him to the hospital so he could see his sister before she passed.

He works for a Ford dealership.

No the one that works for the Ford dealer is a bit of an ass but knows his shyte when it comes to Fords and is fast and reliable worker.

As with the other that works for Toyota, hes just the same. Things like that go a long way to me when your employer shows that much respect to you.

Id stay with the company you work for for a long time.
