Mikelly
My personal opinion here... I've got Ground Control Coil overs and I think they are the best coil overs made, period. Those guys also provide a TON of useful info when you call them... Very good technical resource for suspension and spring related questions... They've done this so long, and with so many different folks, that they are the experts in suspension setups. If you have to go the caster/ Camber plate route, they are the best, bar none! Good Luck! 2126
I have to concour with Mike about the GC coilover set-up. I installed them on my 1970 and when I had questions I received good info back from their customer service. One good tip I can offer up is.....if you intend to use 8" or 9" wide 17's at the rear, you will need to use an 8" (free length)springs instead of the standard issue 10" springs. I encountered this when I was in the process of setting up my ride height. With the 10" springs, the locking ring was running into the tire/wheel upon getting the car to it's appropriate lowered position. Good thing the springs are pretty in-expensive. JMortensen
I've had their coilover and "roadrace" camber/caster plate for ~8 years or so. It works fine. The one bitch I have is that the camber plate was too big to get all the way up inside the strut tower and there is NO caster adjustment, because there is no room to move the plate at all. I had to grind a little off the corners of the plate just to get it all the way up in there, so there is NO room to adjust caster on mine. Maybe a later 240 or a 260 or 280 would be different. Other than that they work great, but I haven't been able to see a significant difference in design between the GC coilover stuff and anyone elses. It is a threaded tube with an adjustable perch, and it slides over the strut tube. AFAIK, they are all basically the same. I'd like to know what significant differences there are between makes though, if there are any. Jon
katman
Very nice camber plates and adjustable spring seats. Their AD shocks, however, need more rebound capability for road racing.
TomsCoupe
If you call them, they will spend the time to get all your information about your car, what its purpose is, and whayt functionality you want it to have and they will help you choose the right spring rates, shocks, and what ever else you need. Great people. I called them when i had my rx7, baught a set, but ended up selling them because i found serious cancer in the car and i didnt want to waste money on the RX7. Its alwaays been the Datsun 240z for me. Its a love of mine. Datsuns/nissans rule all.
Sparky
I have them on my 240ZT, and I second all the comments made above. very helpfull when needed, and a top quality product. they dont try and sell you anything you dont want or need. GC gets two thumbs up, with a BOV woosh!
Mikelly
I know it sounds silly, but the hardware is better... The locking pinch nut style perch, the top cap, spacers, and the powder coating seem to be of better quality... I've had 6 or 7 sets from different suppliers in hand, and these were by far the best, and it was all the little stuff that made the difference! Attention to detail... that is the key! Mike 8)[/quote'] I agree on all points above, but assume you haven't had our coilover package in hand yet Mike I can't sit quiet and say nothing as a longtime hybridz member.... We use the same adjusting nuts as Ground Control and our main exceptions on other hardware pieces are the custom lower weld on tube supports we have. Last I was aware Ground Control was still using their oversized washers one has to grind down for maximum rim/tire clearance (ie. with an 8" spring as above). Their customer support is great, but I'll venture our setup installs easier and tidier with some of our custom details. FWIW we haven't had a single customer request a spring change yet on a setup, couple setups went out today,.....from some running 16x12 rears on up to skinny 9" and narrower rears , and we've offered shipping cost only exchange on springs shortly after install for packages we've advised on for a few years now. Good to see the comments on the locking nuts....the 'other' non-pinching style can be had for practically free hence it's use by others, neither ourselves nor Ground Control support that style.
