WickedWild
I’m preparing for the spring, my brother drives an ’02 Civic SI and he just got his turbo in last week. So now that he’s getting boost, he’s set his eyes on my “inferior†pushrod driven 280Z. My question is this, should I wire in some laughing gas for good measurement for this spring. His mods are as follows: Cold air intake Lowering springs/coilovers Cat back exhaust An extra 150lbs-200lbs of stereo Soon to come T3/T4 turbo (unknown boost and unknown intercooler) My mods: 305 SBC flat top pistons, port & polish, angled/oversized valves, “toque†cam, w/ plasma rings nothing forged Ground control coilovers Non-restrictive exhaust Cold air Lightweight flywheel, T5 Tranny No bumpers/windshield wiper motor, heater core, spare, basically striped but not scaled My brother has turned into a real prick, and becoming more and more of the typical Honda head. This is not a race that I can stand to loose, so if you guys think I have anything to worry about how much Nitrous and what setup would you guys recommend. If I do this I’m half tempted to plumb it in under the intake manifold.
Tim240z
Do it without the gas. The bragging rights will be sweeter, and he cannot moan about you using 'cheetin gas'
Mikelly
I'm with Tim... Besides, A 2002 Civic has got to weigh in at around #3100+, and they aren't making THAT MUCH hp from the beginning. Even if he boosts it to 8PSI which will be about all the rod bolts can handle, the boost in HP on his stock motor won't be much over 50HP... Don't sweat it... Especially based on the parameters... JMortensen
http://www.modernracer.com/hondacivicsi2002.html Curb of 2744, add 150+ lbs of stereo say 180 lbs for driver, 3050 or so. I was thinking that Mike was WAY off base, but turns out you're pretty damn close... One more reason to laugh at Honda morons...
Guest boostjunkee7
Check out honda-tech before you make some 50hp assumptions...10psi is about the standard over there on boosted honda's, usually the newer ones with the K series engines (quite a piece of work)...they usually get about 300 whp and around 220-240 wtq and do so on stock blocks reliably...I'd need to know more about your brother's setup as well as yours, do you have any numbers from your setup, dyno, 1/4, etc...you'll take him from the hole regardless, but its a matter of catching up and boost sure helps with that
Guest boostjunkee7
I'm in no way biased toward one side or the other, I just think each side deserves an equal chance... http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1002855 ...it does kinda look like a minivan. Mikelly
Yea, but based on my experience with the import honda set (And I've built a few of these hondas and use Hybrid Honda as my site for research), most don't have this much luck... and Most have no clue what is required to build it right to survive... The K series motors are nicer than the B series, and certainly have beefier rods and mains, but still... Those cars are ONLY getting heavier... Jmortensen, Pull the figures on a Civic Coup. You'll be amazed at HOW HEAVY they are! The Civic hatch and the Acura RSX are the ONLY products in their lineup that are below the 3000# mark! Guest ON3GO
you should win but if your brother knows anything about those new K motors then you could be in some trouble. prob with those cars is they dont hook up very well. they can make power and go pretty fast. just today i raced a early model like 96-98 hatch back with a non-vtec B20 swap with some work and it was close. then again i didnt launch it, but either did he, and im having boost problems... but still quick car and even sounded good. have fun though! mike
Guest boostjunkee7
I agree, it depends on how much of a ricer your brother is, and how much he ACTUALLY knows about his supposed "superior technology". Get me some numbers on both the setups...I'm gonna guess with that "torque" cam, you're not gonna have much at all on the high end, as if 305's ever did...this could hurt you against a boosted rev-happy 4 cyl. You should definitely race from a dig. Waitin' for you to jump back in Wicked...
WickedWild
I went with the “toque†cam because it was my first engine build and it’s next home will be in my Jeep. The follow up engine for the Datsun will be a LS1 or destroked 350 (I want boost too). The number game will probably be close, me with the toque and him with the high end hp. But I know I’ll have him on the driver experience, he has a hard time with the adrenalin rush wile I live for it. He on the other hand has twice the income that I do, so he has more $$ to throw at this than I do. I do not doubt that he will have done the research on the K engine, I just don’t know if he is planning on doing any internal engine modifications or just bolting on. I seriously doubt he will be turning the wrench on this upgrade also, so I also have to wonder about the 3rd party support. He also weighs 50lbs heavier than me. Guest boostjunkee7
what about destroking the 305...i read in super chevy a LONG time ago about a small bore increase and a crank from a 283 converting the 305 to a 303 cid...they stated it had great high RPM capability (upwards of 8-9000 rpm!), seems like a great motor to boost...good luck with the race against your chunky brother, hha
72zcar
is this your little brother or older brother... you already said your brother has little experience driving. When he crashes and is dead im pretty sure your parents are going to be mad. thats all i got.
Guest Z-rific
Your car will always look much nicer no matter what he does to his. A Civic can run a 10 sec 1/4 mile, and it's still just a Civic.

He is my little brother, it's not so much his driveing experience that comes into question (although he has hit 3 mail boxes), it's that he has problems with the rush associated with driveing a powerfull car. Besides there wont bee too many mailboxes at the strip.
